  • MERRY CHRISTMAS! This week I decided to make a traditional British sauce that is found on some Christmas plates here in the UK: bread sauce. Apparently it has survived in the UK since the Medieval Ages so I had to try and make it. Was it a success??? Good question. Hope you guys like this weird Medieval British food!

Alanna, your cooking videos are ALWAYS so entertaining. Just for FUTURE reference (he says, hoping for more cooking videos in the future), you might have better success making bread crumbs by using thoroughly DRIED OUT bread to begin with. It would get pulverized and blend with the liquid so much easier. No matter. Happy Christmas, and thank you for such fun content!

I do not go to the extremes that our Alanna did . Instead I cut up the Bread (2 slices ) soaked it(cold water) and Added sliced onion (No seasoning) then I stuffed the Chicken with it with Paxo stuffing For the Rest of the Family www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/311874342937219374/
This Has parsley mixed in and Parsley sauce is also a Good dipper for fish dishes
Something for the Future And surely Alanna cant make a Mess of these How about Suet Dumplings or a Beef Suet Pudding or something Suet related ? www.greatbritishchefs.com/how-to-cook/how-to-make-suet-dumplings

Totally correct....you need to leave it out overnight, or failing that , lightly toast it....
It's a shame that this failed, just for that one reason as bread chunks are not bread crumbs!
Have another bash Alanna, now you are experienced....:-)

I had bread sauce for the first time a few weeks ago. Was definitely better than I thought it was going to be. My American mind thought that you put sauce ON bread, not make it FROM it. Anyway, as others have said, reduce it a bit more and grind up those breadcrumbs more. And, the sauce I had was seasoned with nutmeg- can't get much more Christmasy than that!
Anyway, merry Christmas, glad you didn't burn down your kitchen/ injure yourself.
