      Faith is believe something without evidence.

    • @markusallen5634
      @markusallen5634 Před 2 lety +3

      "Faith" is merely a substitute word for "hope", as in "you have hope that something will happen 'after' you die". The thing is- why do you have to 'die' first to know for certain that you are right? Many Christians believe that if one has "doubts" about god, that it's merely someone having a "crisis of the spirit" and not that someone is realizing that maybe, just 'maybe', there isn't anything there to lose faith in.
      It happened to the Egyptians (Ra).
      It happened to the Greek (Zeus).
      It will happen to Christians (Jehovah/Yahweh/Elohim).
      When man doesn't see and/or hear from the god(s) then they have doubts in them, which then, they either seek an answer from 'another' denomination within Christianity (like a Catholic becoming a Lutheran), or they walk away from religion entirely, as they realize that it is 'all' just made up fairytale stories that shouldn't be taken seriously.

    • @tonylearner7636
      @tonylearner7636 Před 9 lety +7

      Alex Grachek Alex, if we followed the teachings of Jesus or Socrates or Confucius or any of the great teachers of history, yes, our world would be a better place.
      But you don't need to be a Christian in order to be a good person. Morals are like heredity -- they are wired into your being and nature. Reason and common sense tell me that doing good unto others should come from the heart not from fear of hell.
      As to O'Reilly, he is a cherry picker when it comes to religion. And the cherry of the day for him is the Catholic Church.
      If you challenge O'Reilly and say, "Sir, there are well over 1000 religions in the world, all making the claim to truth -- why is yours the true religion?"
      He has no reasonable and mature answer other than to say in so many words, "Because I was taught that way by my Church and grew up that way."
      Wouldn't you prefer to have a friend, Alex, who helps you from the goodness of his heart rather than from the fear of cowardice because his religion commands him, "Be good, or go to hell."

    • @bball98038
      @bball98038 Před 9 lety +2

      I'm not saying you need to be a Christian to be a good person either. But I have to disagree with your claim about how we shouldn't know what's right or wrong whether there is a God or not. If the world existed for millions and millions of years like atheists claim and animals back then before evolution slaughtered each other and ate each other and raped each other, why can't we rape and kill and eat each other? What you are saying when we should just know what is right and wrong naturally from our hearts is impossible because no one told us murdering and stealing and other bad stuff is wrong.
      i.e. If evolution was correct and humans today came here because we evolved from other animals by rape (because animals force themselves on each other), then why can't we rape today?
      Also, let me give you my reasons for my Christian faith and why it's true (following up on you Bill O'Reily/Catholic Church comment).
      1. We have mountains and mountains of evidence to support many historical findings in the bible, biggest examples would be Jerusalem, Dead Sea Scrolls, temples, etc.
      2. Other faiths contradict the bible such as Mormonism, Islam Seventh Day Adventism, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.
      The reason I don't believe even things like Zeus and weird mythological things is because, yes, it goes against what the bible teaches, but what is the things we have evidence for? The bible. Where is that for Zeus and other weird things? Look online and it will show you what I'm talking about.

      Alex, thank you for sharing your position. I will leave matters of the heart to you, sir. Do know that I did read what you wrote. And for me there is no evidence for the claims of religion. And there are too many contradictions in the Bible to give it credence for me. But you are at peace and you are happy with your religion -- and that is great for you. I refuse to believe in something with no evidence for it because it makes me feel good. That would be living my life in bad faith. A rationalist does not do that. Take care.

Example, if Trump won the election back in 2016 and you search it in Google, articles from every newspaper/magazine that wrote a story about it will pop out. That means if you search said story about Bill Maher every magazine/website/newspaper that ran that story will show.

      I don't know why, but I feel like telling my story.
      I live in a secular scandinavian country. My classmates didn't believe in god, so that separated us. I actually got bullied because I did believe. I also got nightmares and was literally scared when left alone at home, that Jesus had come and I wasn't taken to heaven.
      I know my parents meant well and they did and still do believe in god. But unfortunately it had negative effects on my life.
      Most of the teachers didn't believe either, but they knew my parents did. And those who did believe, never mentioned it. So I didn't get any criticism of religion at a young age. I bet it would've been better, if I did. But instead I was bullied. Of course that's not religions fault, but still.
      So basically my parents thought me this harmful idea, but they didn't know it's not true, or that it's harmful. And those who didn't believe it, bullied me.
      When I was bullied, I wanted to put the burden of proof on them. I knew they shouldn't bully me. They had no good criticism, which further convinced me that I'm right. They were just kids. Of course they didn't have good reasons.
      So yeah. It was hard for me to let go. But I knew I never was convinced by good arguments nor evidence.
      It's like beaten with a belt, until you cry, and then hold in the hugging position, until you stop crying. You find yourself so lost, that it's hard to know what's best for you or what's true.
      By writing this post, I've realised it's time to stop self-victimization.
      There's so much psychology behind the belief. And it is indeed hard to question what the loving and caring people teach you. But we made it. It's a lot easier if you've never taught those ideas. Instead of thinkin myself as a victim, maybe I should view myself as hero.

    That Quote at the end that Bill provided is not what Maher was referring to. The actual quote is,
    Numbers 15:32-36 {King James Version (KJV)}
    "And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
    And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
    And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
    And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
    And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses."
    Yet another case of Fox News attempting to obscure facts. The Bible DOES DEFFINETIALLY STATE that someone was killed BY GOD'S DIRECT ORDER for PICKING UP STICKS ON SUNDAY, not O'Reilly's quote which simply states 'they'll surely be put to death.'

    • @jimmiizzy6283
      @jimmiizzy6283 Před 9 lety +2

      Finn Underwood Well it's pretty simple. Don't pick up sticks on Sunday. If he couldn't get with the program, then maybe he deserved to get stoned.
      Question: Is it ok to get stoned on Sunday?
      But to be serious (if you could take me seriously after that), the Old Testament was prophecy and picture-in-type of God's plan and will for the world. Just about every "story" and page is filled with deeper meaning prophecy of what God is doing with mankind. Sunday and the Sabbath represents a time when God puts away human/satan rule over this world. Its a time when his kingdom is in effect, and not working on Sunday represents that our will, our wants, our worldly ways will not be happening then. God also commanded that the entire country of Israel rest on the Sabbath year (each 7th year). That means that the entire country was to stop farming and working, and they were to rest for the entire 7th year. They never once obeyed this commandment. As a consequence, and because there evil had reached a certain point, God allowed the Babylonians and Nebuchadnezzar (the king of Babylon) to capture them and take them all into captivity. They were held there 1 year for each year that they disobeyed the Sabbath observation. I think that history does show that this actually happened.
      I am not a fundamental believing Christian, but there was a time in my life that I was. I think that there is a lot of cool stuff concerning the Bible and prophecy and stuff like this. It's not really good to get one's info from talking heads like these guys because one doesn't really get much out of it except for a few shallow talking points.
      The bottom line, concerning your post, is that it is true that the bible says that people should be killed for working on Sabbath. A "good" and "true" Christians view of this shouldn't be like Bill O'numb-nutz' is and to ignore it and talk/walk around it. It should be to embrace it for what it is, as bad as it may seem to us on various levels. The Christian's view of it should be that God is dealing with an entire world of man that is lost and doomed and that he has put forth a plan of salvation and redemption for it. He choose a people (the Jews) to work that plan out with. A big part of that plan is to reveal himself and his plan through them and through their laws and religion and religious texts and observations. That includes this prophetic law concerning the Sabbath, when all people not under God's will --- will be lost and killed and wiped out of existence.
      I'm not saying that one has to like it or believe it; I'm just saying that this is the story and if people should profess to be a part of that story, then they should have intelligent and honest ways to understand and deal with it.

      Isaiah And Hailee Cronan Well not really. Jesus was a Jew, preaching to Jews under the Law. If he ever scolded a Pharisee for wanting to punish somebody, it was to show the Pharisee's hypocrisy. He also showed mercy on a prostitute, also to show the Pharisee's hypocrisy and her true repentance compared to their only outward and false righteousness.
      But Jesus didn't change the Law.

      Isaiah And Hailee Cronan
      Jesus was after Jews under the law and he was there to establish his earthly kingdom. Here is a bible passage"
      These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.…"
      So you can see that he wasn't after Gentiles; he was after only Jews.
      And here is a good article arguing for the New Testament supporting capital punishment
      www.christianity.com/bible/bible-study-tips/did-jesus-support-capital-punishment-11575216.html
      My point is that Bill O'dingoling is dumb for avoiding the subject of being stoned to death for working on Sundays and for using the childish excuse that he doesn't follow the Old Testament anymore, he follows Jesus.
      He doesn't have the biblical knowledge to explain anything in a proper way.

    I don't think religion is the problem. I think its the people. If someone reads a random book saying they should kill people or do evil things, a normal person would not do them. If the person was mentally unstable before reading the book than there is a higher chance that they will. People want to believe what they want to believe so they take things out of context and/or choose what they want to hear or see if it benefits them, its human nature.Religion doesn't kill people, people do.
    Personally I think happiness is more important than the truth or knowledge. So if someone has previously been depressed or discouraged and religion does that for them then they should take it. As long as it doesn't cost someone else's happiness. Doesn't matter if it is not true at least it makes someone a chance to come out of depression. People have the right to believe what they want to believe as long as it does not harm others. Because if someone has different beliefs than you, you should not get offended or angry. Because the things that go on in their mind should not effect you.

I believe that too, but religion is not nice that way nope not even a little if it stayed in a person's private life and never went anywhere beyond that it would be ok, but we do need some scientist so it would be nice to have some thinkers. Until then I will say this and I will put it in a godly manner, us atheist will rain our wrath down upon religion, disembowel it, and throw the remains to cerberus. Stay on your side of the fence, and we are fine, poke your head over and I will decapitate it and hang it on my wall. The rules are so very simple but religion especially christianity think they can act godly, and judge us and push themselves off on us without consequences I say that this brat has been spoiled enough and should be taught a very valuable lesson, and to many other religions they need to be taught too. Until religion is beaten back over to their side of the fence hell their side of the country then back to their side of the fence we will be vicious, and we will eat it alive.

    • @XGhostGamerX8
      @XGhostGamerX8 Před 10 lety

      Grim reaper "if someone has different beliefs than you, you should not get offended or angry. Because the things that go on in their mind should not effect you." This goes both ways. If a christian or any other religious person get in your personal belief space and you don't want that then tell them exactly that. What i think they trying to do is to spread their religion. How do you think it got so big anyway? They just want others to experience what they are going through. But hatred isn't going to solve anything. All I can say is that everyone needs to stay in their own belief house and keep away from each other because when they get to close wars start. Creating a war is not going to end a war. Those who can get close to the other belief without starting a war are the true champions. Despite conflicting beliefs we are all human beings and no one is greater than the other.
