    I met Tony in 1989 at the bones brigade tour. He was mobbed by kids and was still cool enough to stop and talk to me. I was 12. Nicest guy ever

      Tony Hawk earned that much money because he helped save skateboarding and still does. Surfing and skating are best you can skate while holding surfboard till you get to ocean to surf and the only gear you have to wear for both sports is a pair of shorts. Lords of DogTown is a great educational movie also because Stacy Peralta and others also helped skateboarding as skaters surfers and it cost alot of money to make boards and cut trees of Canadian Maple hardwood and to transport the logs even cost. Everything cost too much lol.

    All I know is that the old guys thought Tony was a nerd and an outcast but the younger kids ended up all copying his haircut (aka The Mcsqweeb) all copying in the way he dressed he was an icon in the mid late 80s to all the younger kids coming up.

    It wasn't that the old guard didn't like change its that in the mid to late seventies you had to be a surfer and a skater and it was locals only,
    It's got to do with geography,the inlanders had to get technical cause they couldn't surf and weren't welcome in the beach communities, skateboarding belonged to surfing back then and that's when it was the best

  • @IanMcSlater
    @IanMcSlater Před rokem +2

    We all know one of those 'old guards' hes referring to that still hasn't let it go, nearly 40 years later. Still whining still hating still claiming his contribution from decades ago....

      @@KC-dg9pu ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ would you believe me when I say anyone at sls? Maby not the Asians so much but guys like Chris joslin or nyjah. There's no USADA in competition skateboarding like there is in ufc just like theirs no drug testing. For all you know you're favorite pro is crushing beers or smoking a joint in the parking lot before the competition, who's to say their not doing actual performance enhancing drugs either?

    • @KC-dg9pu
      @KC-dg9pu Před rokem +1

      @@kevinfortsch Nyjah may be believable. He has gotten noticeably bigger despite skateboarding being very detrimental to muscle gain (excessive cardio, injuries, less energy for gym). his performance seems to have not declined at all despite being in late 20s and skating hardcore his whole life. not sure about Joslin but not ruling it out either.

    • @kevinfortsch
      @kevinfortsch Před rokem

      @J considering you deleted you're comment you are young and dumb and can't think passed the fact that it very well could be a possibility. I mean look at what the other guy commented in here. Skateboarding is all cardio. Most skaters are skinny or have "average" builds. The older you get the harder it is to build muscle. Again nyjah is well into his 20's and still jump down gnarly shit with no signs of slowing down. How the fuck do you think he's still doing it at thay level? Obviously performance enhancing drugs. No their not gonna make you skate better, but it's definitely gonna help recover you're leg muscle quicker so you can keep jumping down massive sets/ over huge gaps...
