There are a couple, economic, and quality reasons QUALITY Screens and cleaners can remove solid contamination like glass, metal, plastic etc. But they cannot remove the soluble contamination in the process water. THickening stock removes a lot of process water and whatever contamination is in it. The fibre is then diluted with fresh water, so that any remaining contamination, is diluted. ECONOMIC By thickening stock, (say from 2% to 6% as an example), you need less storage space, so a sinle chest rather than three, or a small chest rather than a large.. This will reduce your capital costs not just for the chest itself, but also the cost of providing the foundations.

Disperser are good but costly ....is kneader could be used instead of that hot desperser ? I was reading but confused
i have seen drum, disk and krofta also.
all are fiber saving equipment along with water.

Thank you. We use a disc thickener and also screw thickener. Problem of disk thickener is when the filter mesh breaks and contaminates the water.
Yes it is a common problem. You have to watch it carefully.
