- Archival footage shot by an amateur filmmaker while visiting Portugal in May 1967.
It contains stock footage of Lisbon, the capital city of the country, and a few shots of Cascais (30 Kms from Lisbon): Rossio Square (North Fountain, Column of Pedro IV), Restauradores Square, Parque Eduardo VII, the Tropical Botanical Garden in the monumental area, the Christ the King monument in Almada, and more.

Do you have the exact of the footage? I would say it's the 24th or the 25th of May. There are some persons in Green and White, I believe they are supports of Celtic Glasgow, they won the Final of Champions League on the 25 May in Lisbon. First British team to win the Champions League. Scottish and not English :)

That's a great possibity. I noticed a sign annoucing the 11th Gulbenkian Music Festival. I investigated and it turns out the festival was held between May 15th and June 5th.
Lisboa preserva a sua história. Vendo um vídeo de 1967 a impressão é a de um vídeo atual com imagens envelhecidas.
Nem por isso, felizmente (ou infelizmente). Muita coisa mudou: por exemplo, os néons publicitários nas fachadas dos prédios desapareceram e a arquitectura da cidade tem estado a mudar completamente, para pior.
@@pedromarques3870 vendedores de drogas, predios e paredes grafitados, predios desabitados, poucos nativos, poucos pequenos negocios. Lisboa hoje está definitvamente diferente. Talvez pior. Mas definitivamente menos autentica.
@@joellopes3934 Sem dúvida! E nem se pode comparar com outras capitais europeias como Londres, Paris ou Madrid, essas sempre foram grandes cidades e nunca tiveram grande "autenticidade". As capitais mais pequenas (como Lisboa) têm conseguido manter as suas tradições, como Praga, Budapeste, Amesterdão, Copenhaga, Varsóvia, Zagreb, Viena... Lisboa é a única capital de pequena/média dimensão que se deteriorou e isso diz muito da decadência do país.

Tinha eu 2 anos. Mas ainda me lembro bem de todos os anuncios em neon do Rossio. Faziam um efeito encantador. E ainda fiz muita compra em muitas das lojas que aqui vemos...

Nesse tempo não havia corrupção, déficit, dívida externa e nem ladrões no governo! Nem caos na saúde e na educação! Os inocentes não eram exterminados no ventre das mães nem os velhinhos eram eutanaziados! Os povos africanos das ex colónias, tinham o melhor nível de vida de toda a África e a miss Portugal era uma mulher!
Contrasta com os dias de hoje, pois nas ruas só havia homens

I grew up in Lisbon during this wonderful time of the 60s and then saw the horrible aftermath of the 1974 coup d’etat that ushered in communism by any other name. If it lies like communism, corrupts like communism and kills like communism, then its communism whatever the propaganda.

Unlike Cuba, in that time Portugal was a right-wing dictatorship.
@@duartesimoes508Castro saved Cuba and the people there all loved/love him. He liberated the country from being an American puppet state and ended wage slavery + feudalism. Cuba has made significant economic and social progress during this time and managed to see large-scale economic growth/development despite the crippling Western embargo.
