to think that all of the players in that celtic team were born and raised either in or just outside Glasgow .. the whole team was homegrown .. this could never and will never be achieved again .. amazing achievement
Nowadays, pub teams have a larger catchment area.
And all catholic too. That’s half a town to pick from. Amazing indeed.
@@f0urstr1ngThe Lisbon Lions were not all Catholics, you've just made that up.
Ronnie Simpson's dad played for Rangers for one thing, so doubt very much he was Catholic. And famously, nor was Stein.
Our achievement was legendary enough without having to make up your own facts to make it seem even better.
Not sure if you're a Celtic fan or one of those people from outside Scotland who always blindly assume Celtic = Catholic and Rangers = Protestant, which was only true for the latter.
O futebol foi imensamente globalizado. Principalmente na Europa. Os clubes aos poucos perderam as suas origens.
billy standing there with the big cup held above his head. there will never be a more iconic scene in european football. the stuff of legends
Never again will any club match this, IMMORTAL
Its matched on an annual basis
Im sure he meant players being born and living within 30 miles of the club they play fors ground ..that will never be achieved by any team HH @@peterbhoy1
A full homegrown team winning the European cup is matched on an annual basis?
From a Villa/Celtic fan, when the final whistle went it was a real goosebumps moment.
The first British team to win the European Cup ,nobody can take that away. Ever.

Compare and contrast the undiluted joy and elation on show here to the reaction of Man City fans to victory in Istanbul, all based on the scale of the achievement. Lisbon was magical because it was against all the odds; Istanbul just happened to be when they finally won it. With all of the financial advantages enjoyed by City, it was just a question of when. For Celtic, with a team of local lads, it was indeed something very special.
I’ve been watching City since 1980, I’ve watched City in three divisions. Believe me, I fucking love that my club City are champions of Europe.

@@davebest5624I Don't think he's on about the die hards ....but there was an inevitable vibe about city eventually winning it....
@@frankgreen1663 fair point but the amount of shit thrown at City makes me wonder if the cartel redshirt clubs will eventually win, they want us out of the EPL and liquidated. BTW interesting we also won against Inter, Billy McNeill was a well liked manager at City.
Correct, but we didn't have Luis Suarez on the pitch and that made a lot of difference. Having said that, credit to Celtic 👏🏻👏🏻
I am a Bluenose, however, this Celtic team were truly marvellous, to not recognise this is ridiculous, they were immense.
Thanks for kind words my friend , big respect to you for saying so. 👏 Scottish football in general was in fantastic shape in those days . And let's not forget how close Rangers came to making it a Scottish double in Europe when they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in the Cup winners Cup Final, Rangers having had a goal in regulation time disallowed.
im a Celtic man,but Rangers were in the cup winners cup final the same year, sadly they didn't win, because it would have been incredible for Scottish football if both of Europe,s premier trophies were in Glasgow, and the only manager from the English clubs at the Celtic game was Bill Shankley, i miss the days when the game was for the common man and not ruled by money grabbing crooks right across the board, all the best to you.
Was age 13 and am a Rangers fan. This was a brilliant team. Watched them live and on the TV. A joy to watch, didn't enjoy the old firm tho. Almost all of Scotland was behind them.

I loved it when Scottish teams were composed of mostly Scottish players and Italian teams were composed of mostly Italian players. That is something we will never see again.
Just been there at the ‘Estadio Nacional’ yesterday 1/12/23. I didn’t believe how emotional I would be standing in the same place Billy McNeil held the cup aloft. There is no official tour guides just the security guards. (Gave them some euros afterwards) They were so happy to show us around. Both of them had Celtic flags in their trouser pockets so we could pose for photos. I wish I could post my photos here. I met Celtic fans over from England, Edinburgh and Glasgow yesterday. Excellent experience. All Celtic fans should make the pilgrimage. Hail Hail !
Fantastic colour quality for 1967. And Lisbon holds the title for the prettiest venue for a European Cup Final ever.. the only final I have seen in broad daylight!
As a non Celtic fan I can't deny the romance of this game - Inter were the original low block team who would score early and close the game, nearly impossible to beat.. and in the event of defeat all that Pirelli money would find its way into the ref's pocket!
So up against those odds Celtic played a patient game, even when 1-0 down and most teams against Inter would admit defeat - that's when they started playing!
Inter had no answer, other than kicking the opposition, and Celtic became the first team north of Iberia to win the European Cup.. the stuff of legend we are still in awe of 55 years later!
Not Lisbon my friend the Estadio Nacional is located in Oeiras
@@ticab364 My mistake, just that the Celtic team were known as the Lisbon Lions after this final.

What an achievement. Perhaps the greatest achievement ever by a club from the uk.
Hello from Brazil.
Fantastic !!!!!!!!!
I remember watching the match on our wee black and white tv. Played on Thursday 25th May, 5.30pm KO. The whole of Scotland was glued to the tv, the streets were deserted. Sandro Mazzola, who scored Inter's penalty, admitted in an interview years later that they totally underestimated Celtic, saying that they had been led to believe the Scottish team were the equivalent of an Italian 3rd division side. Celtic played them off the park.
The evening I became a Celtic fan. 12 years old, still remember my dad screaming at the tv about Inter's tactics.
The most one-sided final ever and the only team of local players in history to be Kings of Europe!
Thanks for putting this together. I'd never seen anything from this game. A great day for Celtic.
Celtic all Scots, all born within 30 miles of Glasgow, If Rangers had won the cup winners cup that year, first time two teams from one city winning the two premiere European trophies. Celtic were a magnificent team then, and for a couple of years after. Sadly only Jim Craig, Willie Wallace, Bobby Lennox, John Clark survive. God bless them all for the pleasure they have given us all.
I lost count of how many shot Celtic players had - and how many the Inter goalie saved almost all of them.
And I have no idea how strong they were until I watched this.
And to see the trees grown around the pitch is hilarious. 🌲😆
Great footage you have, mate!
Thank you.
This Celtic team were magical.
What a team Celtic were! Absolutely amazing!
Wonderful footage and what a fantastic achievement from one of the great all time teams. As a Leeds fan, the first Celtic goal makes me ponder why Lorimer's was disallowed in the 75 final.

This has to go down as probably the greatest achievement from a club based in the British isles. This Celtic team was magnificent, incredible that they were all born in Glasgow, apart from the foreigner Bobby Lennox. I love the story of the Lisbon lions, led brilliantly by Billy McNeill, who briefly managed my beloved MCFC in the mid 1980’s, hugely respected in Manchester. Not many left now sadly. RIP to all the departed lions.
I looked up Billy McNeill and see he managed City for three years. It's funny how what we consider a brief stint back then is practically a long and storied tenure by today's standards.
@@MarkQuinn2k7 yes you’re right there, different times that’s for sure. Billy was manager when we gained promotion back to the 1st Division back in 1985. I was there, the last game of the season against Charlton in front of a packed 47-000 Maine Road crowd, there’s footage of that game on here, and although the greatness I’ve witnessed the last decade or so, that game still remains one of my best memories. Billy did a great job with really limited resources, a million miles from the status of our club today. It’s hard to think of a more respected man in football. RIP Billy.
The finest achievement of all, every player born within 30 miles of Glasgow, 1st Northern European Team to win, and they Won the league, league cup, Scottish cup, European cup, and the old Glasgow cup, 5 Cups in the 1 year, never be done again, God Bless the Lisbon Lions! 🍀🏴🇮🇪🍀
Celtic was formed in Glasgow,Scotland,to support refugees from nearby 🇮🇪 Ireland! (1888)
Thats why you see so many Irish flags!
I'm amazed at the level of Celtic then. They completely squashed Inter! And with good football, and some intelligent play. Many Scottish teams couldn't muster that kind of cleverness level - even today

Clonmel County Tipperary Eire or in Irish (Irish: Cluain Meala, meaning 'honey meadow') and Oliver Cromwell got his arse kicked in 1650 at Siege of Clonmel., from 27 April to 18 May 1650, took place during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland, when Clonmel in County Tipperary was besieged by 8,000 men from the New Model Army under Oliver Cromwell. The garrison of 1,500 commanded by Hugh Dubh O'Neill eventually surrendered after inflicting heavy casualties on the besiegers.
O'Neill escaped with some of his troops, but although the Irish Confederate Wars continued until 1653, Clonmel ended effective Royalist resistance in Ireland,[a] and Cromwell returned to England immediately afterward.
Cromwell's artillery, positioned on a hill near present-day Melview, battered a breach in the town walls. His infantry intended to storm this breach and then open the nearby North town gate to allow access to Cromwell and the Parliamentarian cavalry.[b]
However, O'Neill put all able-bodied townspeople to work building a coupure inside the breach lined with artillery, muskets, and pikemen. The coupure was V-shaped, starting at the mouth of the breach and narrowing until it ended about 50 meters inside the town. At the end of the breach, O'Neill positioned two cannon, loaded with chain-shot. In military terms, the area behind the breach became a "killing field". The Parliamentarian infantry which assaulted the breach was engaged by pikemen and repeatedly cut down by marksmen on the earthworks behind until the soldiers finally refused to make any further attacks on what was a death trap. Cromwell then appealed to his elite cavalry, the Ironsides to make a fresh assault on foot. This time the Irish allowed them to enter at first without resistance.
A British officer of Sir John Clotworthy's regiment described the entry of the Ironsides into the town, the bulk of them belonging to Ireton's regiment.
