    This is what I expect everytime someone tells me they’re a master of their art, sadly it’s rarely the case. You sir are the epitome of attention to detail, precision, insane knowledge & experience, but most of all, you care as if it’s your own and your life depends on it. Never stop caring, those who know, know.

    Absolutely love the OCD attention to detail on all the work at REP. Strangely (and well done to all of you...) none of it has been repetitive so far. If I lived in the UK and could afford any of the "feature" cars there is no doubt where I would go...

    Great to see this finally come together. You can see why it takes so long to build properly as there is so much attention to detail. Still fascinated with the cam installation in that carrier, kind of upside down.

    Between You, Matt and Tavarish, You are the most interesting to watch. Matt is a scream, Tavarish well, will he finish the P1 :), but his attitude is refreshing.
    The detail and checks you put into your builds is unbelievable.
    I have already mentioned you to a client of mine who has a SVJ and told him he needs the twin turbo upgrade!
    For me it was 3rd time lucky until I found a decent 'Technician' to get my EJ25 engine working as it should. He also performed the checks you did before winding it all down and fitting the engine.
    I spent an afternoon with him getting my hands dirty and some bits I was not allowed to do as he wanted it right!
    Do you class yourself as a Technician? Maybe Guru or Master might be more becoming!
    Look forward to the next installment.

    Numpty question 😔 am i right in thinking you had already aligned the camshafts before fitting the cam lock? To ensure the right clearances you must need to get the timing right but i didnt see/hear any reference to checking alignment. Im also assumong - rash i know, that the cam lock wont fit if the cams aren't in the right position?
    Apologies if this us obvious stuff.

  • @itenginebuilder
    @itenginebuilder Před rokem +2

    Great video as always! Is there a reason you didn't use the modified camshaft adjusters, so you can check the piston to valve clearance once the VVT moves the cams? IIRC, in its resting position the intake is fully retarded, so as VVT advances it, it will get closer to the piston. I guess given it barely touched the plasteline, it doesn't matter, but figured I'd ask :)

  • @battlight3476
    @battlight3476 Před rokem

    Fascinating watch. I didn't actually get the whole soft spring, plasticine indent thing? Was it adjustment, or to see if piston strike???... Didn't get it But was great all the same, thanks for sharing vid with us.. might have to watch again to understand???..

    • @itenginebuilder
      @itenginebuilder Před rokem +2

      It's to see, both radially and axially (vertically), what the piston to valve clearance is. If it happens to be too close or god forbid it touches, there are not a lot of options, you can go to a thicker headgasket if vertically is a problem (this has the downside of losing a lot more compression and losing squish), or you can mill the pockets, which works for both vertical and radial clearance issues.

    • @battlight3476
      @battlight3476 Před rokem

      @@itenginebuilder thanks, I take it it's not a case of giving a vehicle reg then. Lol

  • @mattparry1251
    @mattparry1251 Před rokem +1

    Hi Rick, a couple of people have asked about the cams… does the lock secure the camshaft in the highest lift position of the shiftcam…. Or is there a measurement in the plastacene, for clearance between high and lower lift?
    Love the soft spring by the way; will definitely use in future!

    • @itenginebuilder
      @itenginebuilder Před rokem +1

      The lock is used to set engine timing, the cam lock locks the cam, then there's a pin that locks the crank through the side of the block -- and that's where you bolt the adjusters on and the engine is timed. You then rotate the engine 2 full revolutions to get the imprint of the valve on the plasticine and make sure you have enough piston to valve clearance.
      The soft spring is mainly used because there's no oil pressure in the head, so if you used a real valve spring the hydraulic lifters would bleed down and you'd get an inaccurate measurement (there's some inaccuracy introduced with using soft springs, but the inaccuracy works for you, not against you, so it's fine). They are also much easier to install, much easier to rotate, don't require you to torque down the carrier fully, etc.

    • @Nathan0A
      @Nathan0A Před 4 měsíci

      I too would like to know if the clearance measurement was done with the cam locked on the most aggressive VVL profile
