Thank you for your support
If you ever wondered why building a race/ high performance engine is "expensive", it's not the parts, it's the time/skill involved to build them. Amazing video, way more interesting than slapping parts together and torqueing some bolts
It’s amazing the level of detail you have to go into when building these engines, the amount of knowledge you have is something else 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very much!
Can't stop watching all these videos as an engineer of over 40 years your knowledge and expertise is beyond reproach. Perfect.
As always, meticulous Ricky. Fascinating to watch this build. Legend.
Great vid again Ricky…having a 5 pot myself just love the meticulous way you build, like already said is there a bit missing ?…..bore measuring to ring gapping !
Now that’s how to prepare for an engine build, after watching this it’s no surprise that my first engine build at the age of 17 with a VW golf 8v gti went POP after 600miles and burst it’s guts over the A75 in sw Scotland
Impressive measuring and integrated digital recording setup 😎 The detail which should put customers minds at rest; that their money is being well spent.
Just wanted to say your knowledge and ability to explain things clearly is greatly appreciated.
Can't be too long until an F1 team gives you a call! If they did, would you go?
Apologies for not watching you live but once again a fab Vlog
Ricky, your attention to detail is second to none. How many other engine builders, would go to the same lengths? Not many i would argue. Out of the bag and into the car for most.
Seeing a master tradesman at work
Difference between textbook and real life
I love it when you got your tool's out.
Your old workshop not the same now we've experienced the disco garage in Isreal
wow! truly amazed, I have seen different types of worksmanship before, the good and the bad and no where near includes the amount of knowledge and precautions you do so. Its fantastic the way in which you can elaborate on everything etc. Watching this DAZA build is certainly making me want to do mine ASAP! All the best
Fabulous insight and explanation. Thankyou. Stay well 👍🏻
Missing part to the video? Jumped straight to ring gapping without finishing bore measurement section?
Great Video Ricky ! Thanks for sharing
Just love is Infectious enthusiasm in never drops off top engineer is Rik and so funny with it ''Jesus Land''
Great stuff bro 💯💥👍
Top work guys, thanks for sharing 👍
Your attention to detail and knowledge is mind blowing
Brilliant stuff guy's
Big respect u r the engine doctor great content
Fabulous video!
Great to see you sharing your knowledge & experience…..
Keep up all the good work!
Thanks Ricky, enjoy the video and keep them coming. 👍
just recently started watching your videos and come to the realize engine building is a lot more than just buying and fitting parts. im not surprised it costs so much. you seem like you seriously know what youre doing/talking about, shame you cant say that about many builders.
Greetings from
South Africa, love your videos very interesting and informative
Thanks Boss!
Working on 2 strokes I’m glad you’ve gone into depth on ring end gaps, lovely job👍🏻
Grate stuff!
Like the nerdy detailed stuff you do on these. All the best
Glad you like them! Thank you
good work ... I always like to weigh all the rods pistons and pins bolts so i can get them all a close match in weight keep up the good work
A master class in engine building :)
SWEET!!
Ricky your work is top notch mate. The attention to detail you show is phenomenal. I had no idea of the designed variation in thickness of the rod bearings. Is this is because of the 'crush' aspect of tightening the rod bolts? I love all the Mitutoyo metrology gear you have, brilliant stuff ain't it? The ring gapping machine is a bit trick too, much better than putting a ring lightly in a vice and filing it lol Great video, can't wait for the next episode.
What a great business ❤
More of this! Please
Great detail as always Ricky 👍
Will you match the biggest pistons to the biggest bores now?
What would be out of tolerance on either the piston or the bore and how would you address that?
I’ve seen so many engine build videos and every time something is measured, it’s always ok to use. I’ve never seen what to do if the tolerance is wrong 🤷♂️
Cheers, love the attention to detail
And there was me thinking u just put ur piston rings on in right order and push it in cylinder. How wrong I was lol. As always was Engrossed in video all way thru👍👍
/Why did it go from cylinder measuring to ring gapping?
I noticed that, was like there was a part missing 🤷🏽♂️
Nice
So much work to get it perfect. I wonder how they do this from factory at scale. 🤔👌🏼
As an owner of a DNWA RS3, not just the for the sheer cost involved of custom rotating assembly, but more so finding someone who *actually* knows how to rebuild these motors with the precision and knowedge shown here scares me. Unless doing a big power stage 3+ build, I think I would simply re-order a factory block with OEM pistons, crank etc for simplicity.
Amazing work, what ring gap do you recommend for Daza engine for Full frame turbo kit?
Do you measure / record weights ? ( rods, pistons etc ) and equalise rod lengths ?
To bad im in the US 😢 u guys are an BEAST❤
Jesus H Christ. Is that the Engine Log Book from Performance Trends all the way back from 1995?
Ricky, is there a need to 'gap' the oil control rings as well , so they arent tight in the bores or not ?
Do you have a minimum workshop temperature for tolerance measurements?
I think at 3:50 you meant to say transfer case mounting bolts, not Haldex mounting bolts :)
I did yes!! Good spot mate!!
Good vid .. is the czgb engine stronger or weaker ?
The price of just the block will blow you're mind.
Hopefully you guys reply, how do you guys know how much to cut off from the rings? Whats the number you want from the ring
Do you not weigh all the components and ensure each cylinder is the same?
Could they get a bigger box for the pistons 🧐
Oh did you go to Isreal, must of missed you telling us about that 😂
Put a disco ball in the workshop
Have you ever thought about a conflab with Matt Armstrong???????
Ricky constantly talking about his ring put my right of my dinner 😒 The final straw was him putting his tool in the ring 😳
😋😁
Seriously though, owning a 5 cylinder RS myself I found this really interesting, so thanks for posting.
Roll on future episodes 😁
is balancing the crank needed? Theres no mention in this or the next video of any balancing on the crank or rotating assembly.
Yes we do balance bottom ends but you have to be careful on these engines as the flywheel is fully floating.
@@REPerformanceUK thanks for the reply. Just curious if there was a reason you didn't show the balancing. Would be very very interesting to see this process and how the aftermarket rods and pistons are accounted for in the balancing along with the dual mass flywheel. Some shops i'm quite sure are cutting corners on this bit.
@@NA-xz4wj we don’t have the equipment to do it in house so we use an external company. We weight everything and provide them with weights etc then provide the crank, pulley and flywheel assembled for them to do.
@@REPerformanceUK Rick in your opinion is it ever OK not to balance the crank on these engines? Your video series has been an eye opener as the quality of some shops "builds". I see quite a few now dropping in rods, r rods and pistons with no balance.
@@NA-xz4wj You'll be amazed at how badly balanced a stock engine is. It is part of our process to balance everything and it does improve engine smoothness but also bearing longevity. Providing the rods and pistons are matched i don't think you can make it much worse than OEM with drop ins but we dont do "drop ins".
Love your shop and videos but that camera work is making it very difficult to watch.
It's impressive to see how much meat the block has to it. No wonder they make great power so reliably before having to forge.
Mate is CHF11s a good fluid for the r tronic hydraulic system? Do i use a hand pump to pump out the fluid from the revisor and the just pour nee fluid in?
I like your channel as it's always interesting to find out more about various engines. However, can you show more actual rebuild - rather than just unboxing something or just talking about parts - which is quite boring! Be nice to see you some kind of activity on the channel.
What we did in that video was the most important part of any engine rebuild……
If your going this far would you not balance the engine

Can you see that?
Camera man : Yeah
Me : No ??
As for the hitler haircut....totally agree mate.....and i am a subscriber....why cant people like and subscribe for the free content you give us?......i dont even like bloody cars either.....lol great channel...
Sorry brother, if you can give to your videos greek subtleties bec i don't understand what did you say sorry
Performance Audi's really are crap. Wouldn't have one ever.
Dude it’s a rebuild just get to it enough talking
I’m actually rebuilding it in the video! 😂😂😂
Hey guys, loving your work
Good thought process 👍

Glad you’re enjoying it. Thanks for watching.
