Instructions
00:00 Introduction
00:19 Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and spray a 9x13” (23x33cm) baking pan with baking spray.
00:35 Combine 12 oz cola, butter, and cocoa powder in a medium-sized saucepan and heat over medium-heat until butter has melted (the mixture may separate in the saucepan, that is OK). Bring to a boil, stirring frequently then remove from heat and allow to cool while you prepare your dry ingredients.
01:37 In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
01:57 Pour cola mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth.
02:20 Add sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract and stir again until the batter is smooth.
02:54 Pour batter into prepared 9x13 (23x33cm) baking pan and transfer to 350F (175C) oven. Bake for 28-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs or clean. Baking time given is for a metal baking pan, glass or ceramic will take longer to bake (approximately 35-38 minutes).
Frosting
03:34 While cake is in the oven or is cooling you can prepare the frosting.
03:49 Pour cola into a clean medium-sized saucepan and cook over medium-high heat until it has reduced in volume so that it is between ⅓ and ½ cup (79-118ml). You will need to carefully pour the cola into a heatproof liquid measuring cup to check if it has been reduced enough.
04:47 Once cola has been reduced enough, add butter and salt and continue to cook over medium/low heat until the butter is melted (if the mixture looks a bit separated this is fine, it will come together in the next step).
05:13 Remove from heat and add cocoa powder, whisking until smooth.
05:22 Add powdered sugar and whisk again until frosting is smooth and lump free and immediately pour/spread over warm cake.
05:56 Allow cake to cool and frosting to set before slicing and serving. This cake is great served by itself or with vanilla ice cream!
Notes
Cocoa Powder
Do not substitute Dutch-process cocoa powder, which has a stronger flavor and will overpower the already subtle flavor of the coca cola.
Storing
I always store this cake directly in the pan that it is baked in. It will keep, covered, at room temperature, for 3-5 days. The cake may also be refrigerated but keep in mind that this will dry out the cake. Coca Cola Cake may also be frozen (tightly covered) for several months.

Quick and easy for sure. ❤🇨🇦
Your 2 can coca cola cake was absolutely fine I made a lot of your ake but this one is over the top thanks sam for this recipe
I have never had this cake anywhere except Cracker Barrel restaurants with vanilla bean ice cream, but it looks like I will be able to make it for myself now!
That's where I first had it too! Ice cream is the perfect topping. ☺️
The Coca Cola cake at that restaurant is not the real Coca Cola cake, it tastes just like plain chocolate cake and in my opinion, not good. I have been making Coca Cola cake for about 45 years and my Mama before me. This recipe is similar but not. My recipes calls for buttermilk, and only 8 ounces of Coke. And for the icing, about 4 TBS of Coke and only 2 cups of sifted powdered sugar as well as butter, vanilla and cocoa powder, we prefer more cake than icing. But, this is the best cake ever, so delicious!
Yum! Can't wait to prepare this!!
I hope you love it! ☺️
This looks like such a fluffy cake
It's so tasty! ☺️
Looks delicious!!
Thank you! ☺️
Looks delicious

Soooooo yummy and tasty made me thirsty 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤
Awesome 👍🏾! I've heard of a 7-Up cake, but this is the first Coke Cola cake. Delicious 😋. Thanks for sharing. Take care ✌🏾.

@@SugarSpunRun yes I have seen all of them and tried few also they turned out perfect 😋😃
Wow just watching your video like it ,was about doing a fudge cake.please can I use this for my chocolate fudge cake
😋😋😋😋😋
Told my friends I was making a coke cake, those maniacs brought out straws and rolled up Benjamins to snort the cake!🤪🤪🤪😂😂😂😂😂
Looks REALLY GOOD!! Could you use any type of Soda for this? I’m guessing we could. And I just wanted to say you always have the CUTEST Tops!! Lol … But no Seriously you do! 💜💜
Thank you so much! I think any dark soda would work fine here. :)
@@SugarSpunRun I tried this cake with Pepsi and it just was not as good. And I am a Pepsi person but only Coca Cola goes in my cake!
Looks very mouth watering Sam.Great recipe!!!
Thank you! ☺️
Question. When the toothpick has a few moist crumbs do you add another minute to the time or leave it in the pan a little longer to continue baking as it cools? I try to not have it under bakes but I don't want to over bake it as well.
As long as you don’t have wet batter on the toothpick you can leave it out of the oven in the pan. 😊
@@SugarSpunRun you are the best!! I love how you answer so quickly!! Thank you so much!❤
Came across your coca cola cake look mighty fine will make but one thing if I can not eat it all at once what is the best way to keep it fresh and for how long Pease respond
I'm sorry I missed this! It can stay at room temperature. I typically just stretch plastic wrap over the pan after it cools to keep the cake from drying out. It will last about 3 days. :)
W0o0o0w 👏👏👏nice cake
Can i use vegetable oil instead ?
@Nikki Bryant sorry , instead of butter ?
I would recommend sticking with butter here.
@@SugarSpunRun ok😉 thanks a lot 💖
Would this recipe hold up to being flipped out of the pan like you would for round layer cakes? I want to make a sheet cake for my daughter’s birthday but I want to be able to frost the sides too. I feel like you can get more servings out of a rectangular cake lol. Any suggestions?
The cake should hold up to being flipped out as long as you are really careful with it. The frosting is pretty thin until it sets.
❤😅
Can this recipe be made as a round layered cake vs a 13x9 baking dish? If so, what sized pans and how many layers will it make?
The cake will bake in 2, 8 or 9 inch pans. The frosting will be a bit too runny to really work on a layer cake though. It will likely all just slide off.
@@SugarSpunRun Perfect! Thank you! I was actually thinking of using the frosting as a filling (like a ganache) with maraschino cherries then make a cherry buttercream frosting to make a cherry coke flavored cake. 😀
Do you have a Pumpkin Spice Scone Recipe? Like the ones from Starbucks? Lol I spend way to much money on those
I actually do have a pumpkin scone recipe! czcams.com/video/W30hR8DstwU/video.html :)
Hi i wish you would list the ingredient list here makes life easier
Check the description. ☺️
But if you don't have the creme ,what can you substitute
Hmm this recipe doesn't use cream so you should be good to go without it. :)
Yumm! That looks absolutely DELICIOUS!! Will definitely try this, and you made it look easy. Glad to see I'm not the only one who can make a mess. Lol! ♥¸¸.•*´¯`♥
🤣 Making a mess is my specialty!
Hello I love your recipe but I was wondering can you use Zero Coca Cola or Diet Coke instead of regular Coca Cola.? 🤔
I think that should be fine! If you try it, will you let me know how it goes for you?
Sam, can Pepsi-Cola be used instead of Coca Cola? Or is Pepsi too sweet?
That should be fine, but it might be sweeter than usual 🙂
Hi can we make this with diet coke?
👼🏻🌺💖
i only saw you put in 1 coke when did you put the other coke?
One in the cake and one in the frosting. 😊
Coca-Cola cake , Texas sheet cake . Are they the same?
Not quite! Here's my Texas sheet cake: czcams.com/video/UNNi1M7gPPM/video.html
Can you add Diet Coke xx
Diet coke should work, but I haven't tried it. It will just change the flavor a bit. ☺️
Hi, I would love to try this reciepe, can u please tell me a substitute for sour cream please?
Full fat Greek yogurt would work too!
@@SugarSpunRun thanks alot, I have seen one reciepe on ur instagram recently ,which I cud not find it on ur youtube....Lots of love to u from Aleah, Goa,India❤️ I hv been using ur brownie n chocolate cake n cupcake reciepes
A small request if you could upload Gingerbread cupcake ,n a traditional xmas cake without molases but with soaked fruits in Rum...looking forward ,thanks alot, stay blessed,🙏🏻❤️
Hmm, it should be on here. You can also find all of my recipes on my website, www.sugarspunrun.com. 😊
I do have a gingerbread cupcake recipe, but I don't have a cake like that. I'll add it to my list! ❤️
Can i use Pepsi😎
That should work fine. :)
Why did my frosting turn out like concrete and not smooth like hers?
Hmmm that's very odd. Did you make any alterations to the recipe?
@@SugarSpunRun I added the coco-cola reduced concentrate to the powdered sugar in a separate bowl gradually adding more powdered sugar. Instead of adding the powdered sugar to the hot boiling pot of coca cola concentrate.
too much sugar -- soda has a lot sugar also
It is a standard 9 x 13 cake and I typically don't recommend eating the whole thing by yourself. ☺️
This comment is a prime example of why I could never be a YTer... I couldn't deal with... This.🤦♀️ (Not politely, anyway!!😈)
