I had the extreme honor of meeting the Msgt. What most people dont realize is he donated his life to this nation after his service in the Army. I suggest you read his Medal of Honor certificate. Then count how many times he was stabbed, bayoneted, and shot. Now imagine how he felt each day he woke up, imagine how much damage was done to his insides, imagine your worst pain then compare it to what his must have felt like. Yet every day he got up, everyday he spoke at a school, a military event, some engagement to his fellow Americans. Now imagine his level of love for this nation to do that for decades. So when it comes time and its coming,remember this man and his love for our nation and never give up. He and many others deserve that from us.

I to am a Benavidez and Roy is my cousin. I thank God for him as he is one of the greatest Human beings on this earth. Every time he speaks he reminds me of my Grandpa. Same voice and mannerisms. I pay my respects to all servicemen of the United States for without you we wouldn't be the Great Country that we are. God Bless you all.

I am not an American, I am a Filipino soldier, a member of Philippine Army Scout Ranger. He reminds of my several encounters with the communist guerrillas and local terrorist in our own land. His speech has gone through to the deepest degree of loyalty. I am saluting MSg Roy Benavidez for his unconditional and uncontested loyalty to his motherland. He is the highest epitome of loyalty to and GOD, country and his Constitution. I know for a fact how AMERICA suffered a lot, suffers MORE and will FURTHER suffer a lot of sacrifices to maintain the balance of forces for the whole world and suppressing the wicked warlords and establishments that who sought to supplant the US superiority and leadership. I am 87 yo, born in an Az mining town barrio with a background . I identify as Mexican-American and count Roy as one of many Latino heroes and patriots. He is has passed on into American history and it would make us proud to have a high quality movie made of this American heroe. It is sad that one has not been made yet. Kids today need to know American history and Latinos contributions in making America great.

Once these men were deployed, it became a kill or be killed situation. What would you have done had you been there? There was no laying down arms and coming to a peaceful resolution for them. For many, I still haunts them to this day.
Americans at home, stood up and said This Isn't Right and We Should Not Be There. It was a terrible tragedy to those of Vietnam and to US soldiers. Our government is who needed to be held accountable, not these men.

Amen to that sir when I heard President Reagan describe what he went through in earning the Medal of Honor, I had 2 thoughts immediately, not sure which came first, but they were 1) how the hell is he alive an absolutely superhuman effort physically and unbelievable bravery 2)how and why did it takes this long for that man to receive this award, what a terrible injustice. His commanders in Nam should be court martialled for dereliction of duty. If ever I heard of someones action deserving the MOH it was this man. RIP MST SGT

@@michaelferland6611 MSGT BENAVIDEZ was so patriotic and there was no resentment in him for the waiting to receive MOH , his love of country and the Army was something to stand-up and take notice of, it was us, I know me that was angry about him not being awarded the honor for so long. He was humble and proud. I love his comment that there wasn't enough gold in Fort Knox or enough paper to print the money to keep him from doing it all again. If you had to go in to combat, man you know you want this man with you. There is a video on you tube where a Jr. Congresswoman was given the floor to speak and she had been to Arlington National Cementary where they were burying a Fallen Marine from her District in Ohio I believe. She was conveying a message to another person in the Congress about pulling the troops out in Iraq given to her by the father of the fallen Marine he told her to tell Congress this, "Stay the course, cowards cut and run, Marines never do". I would be honored to shake that mans hand. I told that story, to say that this is why if you were going into combat you would want MSGT BENAVIDEZ at your side, because when the metal starts flying, he would be there. You could count on that, in battle it's your buddies that a soldier doesn't want to let down, at that moment it's not so much your country or family, I mean it is, but it's your buddies that you fight to keep alive as much as yourself, sometimes more, look at the MSGT...
How in the world has there never been a movie made about this hero. He’s the closest thing to a real super hero we’ve had.

Roy Benavidez has an amazing story! When doctors told him he'd never walk again he defied them and crawled until he could do so. In Vietnam when men were left behind, he got on a chopper with only his knife, jumped out took multiple bullets and dragged multiple soldiers to safety. He's the real Rambo!

I squandered the opportunity and privilege to serve my country and whenever I perchance to see an individual in uniform I do my level best to thank that person for their service to our country, that I screwed off my chance to serve and that I hope they are proud and enjoying that privilege, and that I certainly envy their ability to follow through and be an example, then I ask them to do their level best that no matter where they go during tour, that they come back on time, alive and in one piece, then ask God to bless them and then I let them be on their way.
To anyone considering becoming part of any branch of the U.S.A.'s military, have yourself a sit down with a recruiter in the branch your interested in, and milk that recruiter for all they're worth and all the information you can. If you watch his CZcams biography about what he did for his medal of honor.. He is so mild here but the heroic acts and extreme injuries he went through would make 99.9% of the population crumble instantly. Look him up, respect.

I’m speechless. A great American. But also to the flag for which it stands. I’m a vet and a military brat and remember the playing of taps every day at 5pm. During taps playing on the speakers seeing people stop what they were doing, stand at attention salute if in uniform or hand over the heart facing the parade ground. Cars would stop, and pull over, people would get out of their cars standing at attention beside them. It was a remarkable sight to see and be part of. It made you proud to be an American.

The Three Wars of Roy Benavidez is a story of the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the personal war for recognition experienced by Roy Perez Benavidez, American Hero. Roy's radio call handle was TANGO-MIKE-MIKE (TMM) which stands for a term of both teasing and respect... "That Mean Mexican" Roy's reputation as TANGO-MIKE-MIKE was tested most when he reacted to a radio call for help from a South Vietnam infantry patrol under heavy fire. The patrol was led by fellow members of Roy's Green Beret unit and was facing ten-to-one odds against soldiers from the North Vietnam Army. Armed with his knife and grabbing a medical bag Roy charges onto one of the evacuation helicopters just as it begins to take off. While under withering gunfire, Roy jumps out of the chopper and runs to his comrades' aid. He organizes scared and confused troops to fight back against the waves of attackers. He carries and drags wounded onto the helicopters, being wounded multiple times in the process. He killed an enemy soldier in hand-to-hand combat and nearly dies getting his troops back to base. Roy was so badly wounded that he was mistaken for dead. Paralyzed, the only way he could keep the Army doctor from proclaiming him dead and sealing him up alive in a plastic body-bag was to spit blood in his face! I met Roy in the office of Jane Patton (now my wife) in 1974 when she crafted the Medal-Of-Honor (MOH) package for Roy. Roy looked like a professional soldier and yet had a kindness of heart. During the presentation of Roy's MOH, President Ronald Reagan commented on the citation stating that Hollywood could not write a more incredible story than the exploits of Master Sergeant, Roy Benavidez. Roy has been honored in many ways for that heroic day in the jungles of Vietnam. Even though Roy passed away, to this day whenever a Special Forces soldier needs desperate help against over-whelming odds he calls for TANGO-MIKE-MIKE.

Every morning in Camp McKaw they woud play this .... and all day "are you ready to quit yet?", You see, they were pushing us to the limits to see if we'd fold under pressure. It was the hardest training I had ever completed ..... so proud to wear my Green Beret. 10SFGA Medic on an ODA (A Team). It opened many doors for me. thank you for that opportunity to serve.
I had a comment from a so called veteran. He stated that I was not educated. He is right, I’m not that educated. I am thankful that my Lord and Savior has never forsaken me. I retired from the military and I also retired from a major corporation. Retired early in life. Sent my daughter to college and she became a nurse practitioner. If it was not for Jesus Christ, this would not be possible. I worked hard all my life from a very young age. Education does not always make one successful. Once again thank you Veterans for your service and all those that support our military.
My Dad, brother and Uncle were all in the Nam. I am so thankful to Yeshua Messiah my blessed savior for bringing them home.

I saw that God never forsaken me even in Sin. Throughout my life he saved me from two deaths. 1st physical death 2nd spiritual death internally. I surely would of went to hell. That moment I saw myself as God was looking at me through the mirror. I fell on the floor and repented. See, Jesus payed a price on the cross. Death, burial and resurrection. I'm an Australian veteran and this is one of the most inspiring things i've heard. I love my flag as much as my family and I to would do it all again and I think everyone that has served their country would do the same. I Met him back in mid 1980s at Ft Sam Houston TX. he attended the 5th Army Change of command and took the time to talk to us "enlisted" who were part of the color guard... & to Say hello and thank us for what we do.. His story is Incredible.

I love to hear Roy's voice. He has a great speaking voice. It's complex because it contains compassion, patriotism, confidence, and humanity.
Made me cry. My dad was in Korea, and 3 tours in Nam. My sister died in Desert Storm, my youngest daughter, for 8 years, was a language interpreter for the Navy Seals Teams, in training on the LDH Wasp. What’s going on today in this country kills me.

On 2 May 1968, 12 Green Berets were surrounded near Loc Ninh, South Vietnam, by an entire battalion of NVA. They were thus outnumbered, 12 men versus about 1,000. They dug in and tried to hold them off, but were not going to last long. Sergeant Roy P. Benavidez heard their distress call over a radio in town and boarded a rescue helicopter with first aid equipment. He did not have time to grab a weapon before the helicopter left, so he voluntarily jumped into the hot LZ armed only with his knife.
He sprinted across 75 meters of open terrain through withering small arms and machine gun fire to reach the pinned down MACV-SOG team. By the time he reached them, he had been shot 4 times, twice in the right leg, once through both cheeks, which knocked out four molars, and a glancing shot off his head.
He ignored these wounds and began administering first aid. The rescue chopper left as it was not designed to extract men. An extraction chopper was sent for, and Benavidez took command of the men by directing their fire around the edges of the clearing in order to facilitate the choppers landing. When the aircraft arrived, he supervised the loading of the wounded on board, while throwing smoke canisters to direct the choppers exact landing. He was wounded severely and at all times under heavy enemy crossfire, but still carried and dragged half of the wounded men to the chopper.
He then ran alongside the landing skids providing protective fire into the trees as the chopper moved across the LZ collecting the wounded. The enemy fire got worse, and Benavidez was hit solidly in the left shoulder. He got back up and ran to the platoon leader, dead in the open, and retrieved classified documents. He was shot in the abdomen, and a grenade detonated nearby peppering his back with shrapnel.
The chopper pilot was mortally wounded then, and his chopper crashed. Benavidez was in extremely critical condition, and still refused to fall. He ran to the wreckage and got the wounded out of the aircraft, and arranged them into a defensive perimeter to wait for the next chopper. The enemy automatic rifle fire and grenades only intensified, and Benavidez ran and crawled around the perimeter giving out water and ammunition.
The NVA was building up to wipe them out, and Benavidez called in tactical air strikes with a squawk box and threw smoke to direct the fire of arriving gunships. Just before the extraction chopper landed, he was shot again in the left thigh while giving first aid to a wounded man. He still managed to get to his feet and carry some of the men to the chopped, directing the others, when an NVA soldier rushed from the woods and clubbed him over the head with an AK-47. This caused a skull fracture and a deep gash to his left upper arm, and yet he still got back up and decapitated the soldier with one swing of his knife, severing the spine and all tissue on one side of the neck. He then resumed carrying the wounded to the chopper and returning for others, and was shot twice more in the lower back. He shot two more NVA soldiers trying to board the chopper, then made one last trip around the LZ to be sure all documents were retrieved, and finally boarded the chopper. He had lost 2 quarts of blood. Before he blacked out, he shouted to one of the other Green Berets, Another great day to be in South Vietnam!
Suffering from 37 bayonet, bullet, and shrapnel wounds in various parts of his body, Benavidez used the last of his strength to pull himself on board the helicopter, the last man to leave the battlefield. The helicopter was completely riddled with holes, covered in blood, and without any functioning instruments, but the pilot somehow took off and got the team out of there. Benavidez lost consciousness as soon as he knew they were clear.
Sergeant Roy P. Benavidez of the 1st Special Forces was credited with single-handedly saving the lives of eight men during six hours of non-stop battle. When a recovery team went through the site a few days later they discovered over 30 empty NVA foxholes with heavy weapons, and saw the battlefield littered with more dead than they had time to count.
After the rescue helicopters landed at the base, Roy Benavidez's motionless body was carried off the helicopter, and after a preliminary inspection by the medical personnel on-site, the hero was gently laid onto a gurney and wheeled into the coroner's office.
Just as they were zipping up his body bag, Benavidez used the last of his energy to spit in the doctor's face.
The mostly-dead Benavidez was rushed into surgery immediately, then transferred to Saigon for many months of intensive rehabilitation. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroic balls-out actions, and once the full details of the battle came declassified the award was upgraded to the Medal of Honor, the highest award for military bravery offered by the United States military. He lived to be 63.

Sergeant Benavidez suffered nearly 40 separate wounds due to bullets, bayonets' and grenades while conducting a one man operation that he wasn't even asked to do.. Think about that for a moment. He was shot, stabbed and blown up for love of his brothers. It's rumored that his longest lasting, physical pain from that battle was to his back. Fore it had to carry not only his big heart, but the enormous brass balls he dragged around with him. R.I.P, dear sir! Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

I have had two people I considered a hero”s in my life of 60 years, Audie Murphy and my mother. There isn’t time for me to explain now and it would take away from the honor Mr. Benevidez deserves at this moment. But this man, this American Patriot, has been added to my short list of hero’s. Was the Vietnam War started over false pretenses? Absolutely. The Viet who sided with American forces just wanted us there to do the fighting. They would rarely engage to protect their own freedoms. South vietnam was a sovereign nation. North vietnam wanted to force south vietnam to be communist. The violated Laos and cambodia, two other sovereign nations, by moving supplies through their countries illegally. They used laotian and cambodian civilians to help build the ho chi minh trail. They invaded the sovereign nation of south vietnam. Hundreds of thousands of south vietnamese soldiers died to stop the invasion of the north. Millions fought. The north purged thousands of people that weren't in line with communism. The north put thousands of people in concentration camps. After the war, they made all business state controlled. This led to massive poverty, and mass starvation. After the vietnam war, vietnam were involved in ethnically cleansing native montagnards , hmong, and native chinese . The north invaded and destroyed 3 sovereign nations becuase they wanted all vietnam to be communist. The south did not want them to do that, they wanted their own nation. The north didn't care and did it anyway. The south vietnamese government asked the u.s. to stay, and not leave . Millions of south vietnamese wanted their own nation not under communism and they wanted and needed u.s. troop help. Idk how it was pointless. It may not have affected the United States, but it affected human beings. Human beings were trying to impose their will over other human beings, and they needed to be stopped. The south needed help, the u.s. was capable of helping stop the invasion of a sovereign country, so they did. I think if people are doing terrible things to others, someone needs to stop them from doing terrible things, and the u.s. was capable of that, so they did .there's more to it than just military industrial complex and imperialism. It's deeper than that. Try to think about this, becuase that's what the people that went and died there were trying to do. I was in the bay area as a recruiter and MSgt Benavidez was coming in to do a speech and they told me "Keep an eye on him" I had no idea what they were talking about but just say this guy is the real deal and a hell of a guy to try and keep track of! Amazing guy I have to say he said a few things to me that I will never forget. A great man for sure.

Please read about this man’s efforts in Vietnam. He was willing to sacrifice it all to save any man next to him, and very nearly did. Was pronounced dead only to survive. Was told he’d never walk again only to run. Told he could never serve again only to go back and repeat his efforts. There are no great men...only great challenges. And he made it through challenges that few can survive.
That is the personification of valor what truly makes America great... I salute you Benavidez...
