Ryan it's your buddy Richard. You don't know me, but I know you pretty well. today I started my second round of chemotherapy. I am at the hospital for about 6 hours. I have been reading The Long Way Home. So hearing from you today is the best medicine I could have received. You are so strong you got this. (and if you don't, I still love you.) You have always motivated me to "GET OUT THERE" and I am forever grateful. More importantly, I watch you and how you interact with the world, friends and family, and you motivate me to be a better man. And dare I say it? That is even more important. I used to be a Patreon, but I am broke now. I hope to live and get my life back together and get it back. Motivation Is priceless.
Richard, prayers as you go through chemo. I have colon cancer and have also watched Ryan for motivation at treatments and while home recovering from surgeries. God be with you on your journey.
@@mikehoekstra7271 Hello Mike. I'm sorry we find ourselves on the same trail. It's the jankest one I've ever been on, But WE ARE STRONG We got this. Good luck and only good lab draws to you.
Because of your videos you got me on my bike and rode from San Diego to green water Washington back down the coast and underneath Portland to the east side of Oregon all the way down to goose lake and back to San Diego. Then I rode from San Diego to Green valley Arizona turn Tucson Phoenix and back. Then from San Diego to the 395 to Betty Nevada to Vegas and back to San Diego the best times ever and I did this with my best friend ever Oscar my dog so thank you I have no regrets
The emotional waves that come with extreme exertion and exhaustion are undeniable. Keep pushing and make good decisions to keep yourself healthy and happy and we’ll see you at the finish line. Inspirational 💯%
Aww, Ryan. Thank you so much for putting yourself out there and sharing. My husband died in 2020, and one of his favorite past-times was to watch your adventures since he could no longer have is own. Thank you for all you do!!
You did the right thing so you can do more adventures on your terms in the future. Your health is the most important part of any adventure, My husband and I shared a ride from San Diego to Virginia in our 50's each doing about 100 miles per day with one of us driving our van while the other was riding but we had near perfect weather and we camped in the van so did not have to carry gear and road on roads so the terrain was much easier and in view of that I can't imagine doing the journey you were on, Take care and heal well and we will look forward to more adventures.
You KNOW this is tough if Ryan feels tested. Always finding something positive despite the pain and exhaustion. 200k subs are rooting you on! May our spirit and prayers carry you through these days and nights!
Ryan, you're tougher and more courageous than I realized, and I've always admired you. You know you are loved, so I will only add this..; Take good care of those open saddle sores -- take a day off if you need to, to give them a chance to heal. They can lead to infection if your not careful. Good luck. We're rooting for you.
PS -- I did 50 mi on my bike today, largely because of you. Unlike you, I'm home in bed now. Hang tight with your friends on the trail. Getting lonely will only make it harder.
Struggling hardcore today and leave it to Duzer to come to my rescue tonight. Feels so good to know some of your goodness gets rebounded back to your core. So grateful to all those out there and on here rooting you on. Big love yaway!
When you’re honest about how hard it is, it really helps. Not TMI. If you make it seem effortless, then when we go out and face hardship, we think, this must just not be for us. When we see you facing hardship, we know that’s just part of the package.
You've got about 10,000 cheerleaders out here my man! You are the unstoppable force immovable objects are worried about, and I have no doubt that you're going to crush it! Just pedal a wee bit every day, and you'll be there before you know it!
Sending positive vibes and prayers going up for quick healing for your bum. Growth through suffering is priceless and I know you know it’s value. Keep on persevering. You inspire us all. ❤
Wow Ryan! Still an incredible ride. To ride as far as you did with saddle sores, is a remarkable effort. I would have never endured that much pain. Great effort for a highly difficult race. Cheers!
Love your "little" videos. In my humble opinion, you embody the true spirit of gravel riding. Getting out in Nature and sharing it with us. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. In the next town, head for diaper section of the store and get some Monkey Butt cream. Works. Or some Udder Butter. Hope you heal well. Cheers 🌞🚴♀️🖖🤕
You got this Ryan. I just finished reading one of your comments from a gentleman taking chemotherapy, he is fighting for his life and you are inspiring him like you do many others. Even we two old bicycle people enjoy your adventures. God Bless You Ryan, we are pulling for you.
Last year on my ride, I had a gentlement tell me something I really connected with, everyday is an emotional rollercoaster ride. You have the highest of highs and lowest of lowest, and the only consistant is that you are riding within the beauty of the Divide Trail! Somedayts it felt like i shed more tears then sweat .... I know i'll be back, and hopefully I can cross paths with Ryan! What a douzie!
Ryan, I got saddle sores last year at RAGBRAI. I found relief applying diaper rash creme. Look for one that contains zinc oxide to take the edge off the pain and protect that tender skin. Hope things improve drastically. Your optimism will carry you through these tough days!
Watching you from the UK Ryan. You are amazing and your messages of positivity and highlighting the good in people is exactly what we need. General perceptions of nations and political regimes mask the true nature of most people and the goodness within. Not sure if you guys have Sudacrem? Its for babies with sore bottoms. I've used it and it works. Take care.
Hi Ryan! Always so proud of you and sending you healing energy. Regardless of any sporting challenge do be mindful of your body and listen closely with devoted attention, after all it has taken you around the world, right? So, if you find anywhere calendula or arnica oil, it's something very useful to have in your packing, even a little bottle much love and strength to you. We love you dearly !! Veronica and John. ❤❤
Hope you can feel all the positive energy from JAPAN! I got very emotional with this short video testimony! Thank you for all Like we say in japanese GAMBATE,RYAN! がんばって!
Neosporin, Benzoyl Peroxide (acne cream) and Aquaphor (sp) in combination can help with the butt sores. I used this on the White Rim Trail a month ago with my daughter Abigail. We were inspired by your rides on that trail it was because of you we did it! Here are good thoughts!
So touching, Ryan. Crack open all you need. We are all rooting for you! You can do hard things, beautiful things, and fun things. This trip is all three. I'm sooo sorry about the saddle sores. They can be excruciating and very distracting. Like a constant toothache but down low. I hope they scab over soon❤
Good job Ryan, you’re going to have to dig very deep . As for the saddle sores find a department store that carry (bag balm) it’s an antiseptic that farmers put on cows teats, but it works very very well for rash and saddle saw comes in a green square Steve west
Dude you are CRUSHING it. You're averaging 103 miles a day man! You knew going into this that it would be a massive challenge, and you're facing it with your eyes wide open. As Dan would say, One Pedal at the Time and keep on pushing. You can't grow and get stronger if you don't get uncomfortable. Future you is going to look back on this in awe!
I am always so happy to see that you have posted a new video or the next episode from you! I hope you’re feeling better with your saddle sores-ouch! You of all people can get this done! Sending good vibes to you! 💓🚴♂️☀️
You impact my life every time I watch your videos. Been watching you for years. I just had quad druple bypass heart surgery in Jan this year. I hope to ride ragbri this year. Hope to see you there. And thank you

Thanks again, Ryan. Recently retired and I'm from the Land of Enchantment ( NM) I've been following your youtube videos for 3 yrs now and you Got me out there 7500 miles and counting on my bicycles since 2020. I am training and plan to ride the Tour Divide next year on my 2021 priority 600X. Thanks for showing us that people around the world are kind, helpful, and we are more alike than we care to admit. I wish you the best. Good luck, mi amigo. Mark from Rio Rancho NM.
Thanks for the report Ryan. My place in Colorado is very close to Como on the south side of Boreas Pass (that's our Post Office). If you need anything, or shower or bed when you pass through, just let me know. I've been watching you for years and you've given me advice and encouragement, so you are always welcome.
The Canadian section is beautiful though....... You are STILL the premiere inspiration to so many of us. Whether it be for your biking adventures, or simply your infectious positivity, you really do inspire many. Thank You
The farthest I have cycled is 85 miles. This challenge you gave yourself is daunting for me. Already what you have achieved is so impressive. This is a dangerous challenge too. Stay safe and keep going as far as you can Duzer!
Love it Ryan!! Wow, thanks for sharing. Living the dream through you. I may have to track progress and drive from Phoenix to NM to welcome you at finish line. Is it creepy that I want a pic with you? Just keep pedaling and may the sores go away.
Tea tree oil is best for treating saddle sores. That's the advice I got from another CZcamsr who has bikepacked around the world, @DavideTravelli. Great work, Ryan! You have been a big inspiration for me and my wife to get into bikepacking! -Craig from Victoria, BC
As much as I hate to say it, it gets harder as we get older. I’ve been back riding all my life and I love it and I’ll never stop. You know things that make us uncomfortable cold. Sometimes the mornings are little bit harder, but I like your attitude man keep it upride for life right show them it can be done. Brian Buser much love, brother you’re the best.
We are following you on the tracker. We will have a cheering squad for you right outside Helena.and I have an extra sleeping pad if you don’t find one.
I too, often get emotional when facing challenges in the beautiful outdoors. Being in these places touches a person deep in their soul and makes one grateful to be alive and enjoying these wonderful experiences. I'm thinking happy thoughts for you and your butt. Press on my friend....press on!!
Ryan you're not the only one that crys while racing. I usually start thinking about how lucky we are to get to do this kinda stuff, and then it translates into other things. Last year I started thinking about a Huey helicopter that's named "Greyhound" that they give rides with over here in Michigan, and got choked up about how bad ass it is. I get very thankful on tough rides, and very deep in my thoughts. Lots of quiet time.
You are a bright light in a sometimes gloomy world. Life is best when it's lived to the fullest. You are an inspiration and a healer. You got this, get some rest and enjoy your ride. Just keep pedaling😃
You got this! You have so many supporting you from all over. You'll have highs and lows but we all know you got this! Personally your videos helped me more than you could imagine. We are all behind you!
Crossing fingers - in the anti wet way - for you Ryan!!! You will get stronger, somewhere on the way. If that is what you need than that is what you get. What I hear about this ride, and saw about this ride, watching you react like this is logical. It is a true slaughter route, but you are not a lamb! You are Ryan van Duzer! If this route can beat a better prepared person, than it is you, it will test you, that is all! Just take it, like it lays in front of you. Time to use your cycle wings for you now Duzer! Don't let anyone get to you too much - what you can feel comfortable in, is that you and your bike are out there all the time. Your not here for the memories right now, you can use your head in way more ways, plan, love you element, focus on each little challenge, and eventually you beat that by beating them all in their little ways. If one is ready to be tested, you are! This is just that other route, where you get tested from mind to bodily parts. And it will test you, all you have to focus on, is the route, the ability to be there, to compete, to paddle, it is exactly like all the time, with a thousand memories of joy, think of all the joy, before you started this test, make it carve your smile back in those cheeks. This is you, your life, your world, your element. We all love you for it, unconditionally! You are swimming in your own part of the pool, this is your pool now! I fully trust you and all with you, even those sitting on your shoulders right now, we are all with you Ryan. And with every harder stretch, we will help you with just that little push in the back, focus on the route, on the element, which is yours, all you need to do, is keep sharp, keep your everlasting happy, your preparation, you can beat this. Don't focus on the hard, focus on the route, the things you can do, to help yourself, this is what you do, and you are doing it! Sure it will test you, but you can trust in who you are, you are Ryan van Duzer, and you are there in your element in life. You are the fish of this ocean. We love you, so forget about that, don't do this for us, this is, for you Ryan! Get on it Duzer, beat what is beating you, you have this! Trust in the Duzer you are! :D Let no one tell you down, time to be your Duzer now, do it for you! You are allowed to do this for you! Ride, focus, plan, do! God is with you, handing you this test, to this lovely human called Ryan, who does everything for others, and all for them and to get them out there, but the test is now, to do this for you. And if one is allowed to it is you! During this route, you even think of us still, you deserve it to do this for you now. I know it is hard, you feel it is, but it is nothing else, nothing other, than what you always do. Feel absolutely free, God now wants you to think of you now! And you can't do this without you, you can't help anyone without you. This is your treat your candy, all for you. You may! Yes you may! All want you to do this for you, you are totally allowed to, now go test that test Duzer, you are on top of this. Deserve it! Enjoy it! Let's rock! ❤🤍💙 There is only way, and it's forward!

Hang in there, and embrace every moment. If you need to, slow down and sing your mantra!! You got this!! 💚💪🎖
Bag Balm - for saddle sores. Works great! Type two fun. Go get it Ryan! Andy
Agree, Bag Balm is great and just plain Vaseline. Acts as a cover and seal over the wound instead of absorbing into sores.
Love you too Ryan! Thank you for stopping and recording your journey! You are an inspiration!

Way to go man, you can do it
You got this!
