Nice honest review mate. Thanks for sharing this. I've had my Quest Pro for 4x days now and I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to my good old Q2. Mainly wireless PCVR wireless with Air Link, using a rtx3090 gpu. I also wear glasses and I find the light blockers are pretty uncomfortable. Hopefully 3rd parties will come out with better solutions. Actually the headset works very well without them and games/sims still seem very immersive. Def worth $1.500, for me anyway. Thanks again mate and cheers.
RTX3090? Nice! I'm still rocking a 2080 super lol. But I did get an order in for the 4090 (backordered) to help with video editing/exporting. Can't wait to drop that in the system and test out some PCVR games though.
And agreed, it was hard going back to the Q2 after using the Pro for an extended period of time. Not that the Q2 is bad, I've clocked plenty of great hours in that. It's just that the screen and controllers on the Pro are a significant upgrade. So now my Q2 is going to sit in its case while I exclusively use the Pro.
How do you get airlink to run smoothly? Mine is super laggy.
@@MumblesTomato Main thing is to use the recommended Air Link setup. Google for this. For me, the most important thing are to be ethernet wired to your router and be the only 5Ghz user on it.
Wow! First time I’ve seen someone say that the $1500 is WORTH IT! (I definitely needed to hear that because I just ordered my Quest Pro today and it arrives in the mail tomorrow.) Hopefully I do well with the “screen lottery” and get one of the better screens.
Do you think that if I bought the quest pro, after having headaches and issues with my quest 2, that not only will I like the headset better, but you think a 3090 ti is a sufficient card for pcvr?
Finally a decent quest pro review video after going through dozens of crappy ones filled with non-sense. Thank you good sir have a thumbs up
Thanks so much for the kind words!!
Fantastic video man.
You covered all the key points I was wondering about and got right to the point for each area.
Loved it!
Excellent review and thank you for not playing any annoying music during your talking points! 🙂
Thanks for the feedback! I see a lot of content creators with music throughout their videos, and I've never jumped on board with it. Good to know that there are people who prefer no music :)
Damn this video was put together so well!! Great job!!
Thanks so much!!
Best review about this headset I've found months later. You actually went through some work to test things out properly and compare with another headset, which is much appreciated. Your through-the-lens footage was very informative too. I'm getting my QPro tomorrow and am really curious how it will stack up to my old Q1!
I am still on the q1
How does the pro stack up against it
@@johnhawthorne4716 It's fantastic. If you can wear it correctly and get the lenses close to your face, then you will be amazed by how clear and sharp everything is. If you play PCVR, get ready to see detail in the distance you've never seen before.
It might need some comfort mods for you. I replaced the front and back pads to make it less of pain to wear. Still not perfect but getting better.
You asked if I think it is worth it to buy the Quest Pro? Absolutely! The tracking is rock solid, sharp graphics and text I can actually read. Controller tracking is fantastic. As for the cost. I bought this instead of a 65" TV I was planning to get this year for the same money. I know I'll spend many more hours using my Quest Pro than I ever would watch TV. So, entertainment cost per hour is a win for the Quest Pro. I think people have just gotten used to wanting things on the cheap, but there is a lot to be said for quality, and this thing screams quality. If you can't tell, I love this thing! Thanks for your unbiased and technically deep videos!
Great content. Really appreciate your in depth approach used in this review.
Thanks!!
Best review out there, hands down. Never knew that a clip for that cable was included, and never seen anyone else talk about it!
Best review I have seen so far, great job. Earned a sub.
Thanks so much for the sub and I'm glad you liked the video!
Very grateful for this video. Been reading/watching so many conflicting videos but they didn't come with enough actual hands on. This video convinced me.
Thanks! I'm glad the video was helpful!
Comfort, visual, and great controllers were all worth it for me.
Yup I would build up sweat fast with the quest 2 and the pro actually let's me breath better😅
Thank you BEST review ive seen after watching soooo many videos. You really go through it all.
You can record passthrough if you enable developer mode and then enable the extra recording options.
Wonderful, clear on-point review! 24 more hours for me...!
Thanks!!
This is the best breakdown I’ve seen on this headset. Thank you!
I've seen a lot of videos on the Quest Pro and yours is one of the best, some great information I wasn't aware of like the attachment to move the charging cable to the back. 👍One thing you may have missed was that a charging cable can also be used with the headset in use and actually increases the charge, in the Quest 2 if you use it when charging the battery will still die but it takes longer.
Thanks so much for the kind words! And good to know! I actually didn't know the Quest 2 would still die with a charger plugged in. I use the battery strap on my Quest 2 and have occasionally used Samsung's portable battery pack to charge it while I play (battery pack kept in back pocket while playing). I was able to actively charge the Quest 2 while playing so I'm wondering if it would be worth it for you to try a different battery pack to get a faster charge speed.
Same for me. With a BoboVR battery strap my Quest 2 does charge up while playing games.
Great review! Thanks for all the info
Now that it's down to 1100, I pulled the trigger. I love my quest 2 and have a high end pcvr setup. Can't wait to check it out when it's delivered. Great info in your video.
How do you like it so far?
Yeah ?
Best review I've seen so far!! Thanks 😊
Wow, thanks!
Quest 2 actually does support foveated rendering, but it's the fixed foviated rendering, meaning the image on the corners is always blurrier.
Great video! Lots of little details covered here that others missed. Thanks.
Thanks!
As someone with a Quest Pro...had no idea that clip even existed, just fished it out of my box haha
I'm glad it didn't end up in the trash! A couple other people fished theirs out of the trash just in time.
Good job on the review, very detailed!❤
Thanks!
By far the most detailed review on quest pro
Thanks!
I liked your reviewing style. Good job!
I think it’s worth it, it seems to be really good. I work 100% remote and I want to be able to work in a virtual environment with my work mates.
Thanks!!
I’ve put a few hours of work in and it worked pretty good. That said, I already have a 38” monitor that I work with and I don’t need too much more screen space. If you’re used to working on a single, smaller monitor, it’ll be a pretty big difference. My only concern is that I don’t know what the long term affects are on your eyes after being in VR for 8 hours everyday. I’ll have to do some research on that.
You got my like after testing with the glasses! amazing bruh!
well put together video..clear and too point ....thumbs up
Thanks!!
For me, it was definitely worth it. I now have a year to try out experimental developing for accurate stereo colour passthrough Mixed Reality experiences. I can show my chainsaw carvings at exhibitions with this device as an extra feature for visitors, I want to augment my wood carvings! Also it's the same price as a Galaxy Fold 4, so using that as a reference, it's about right for state of the art tech.
That's a super cool use case! And you can probably write the headset off as a business expense if you use it to help sell your carvings.
Best review so far, and i see a lot. New sub.
Thanks so much for the kind words and the sub!!
Great review..very indepth with nothing left out
The best review of those out there! Thanks!
Thanks! I really appreciate that!
Is there a huge difference between the Quest Pro and the Quest 2 when watching videos on CZcams, Netflix or Big Screen? Is the slightly increased FOV a big deal?
Great review. I have seen others complaining about the buggyness of the UI compared to the Pico 4 and better pass through on the Pico 4 as well. Would be interesting to see your comparison of the Pico 4 and the Quest Pro
lmao Quest Pro is leagues better than Pico 4
Unfortunately, the Pico 4 won't be sold in the US so I can't really test it out without importing it. That said, I have seen some other content creators from other countries review both the Pico 4 and Quest Pro. I'd check out Tyriel Wood and Virtual Reality Oasis. They both did reviews on the Pico 4 and I believe Tyriel will be doing a Quest Pro vs Pico 4 video.
Solid review cheers man!
Much appreciated!
The price drop put this on my radar and I ended up placing an order this morning. Meta is going to sell a lot of these at the much fairer $999 price.
Excellent, thorough review.
You always have great in depth reviews. Would you do a review on the Pixel 7 Pro
Thanks! I'd love to, but we'll see what I have time for. I still have a few Fold 4, iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 5, Flip 4, and iPad OS videos to make before the end of the year., but I'm trying to crank through them as quickly as possible. :)
great video! really looking to this headset and appreciate the review.
Thanks!
I use my quest 1 and rift s with glasses with no issues, and now seeing you say the blinders on and glasses… cool. Thx.
i cant seem to find a video on how i upgrade from my quest two and download my games to it/ im signed into my same facebook account but..
thanks for the good demo and comparison.
Immersed is a must use if you want to have a fun time at work in VR.
Is there away I can use infored light to use the headset because it only works when I use regular light
The automatic fit adjustment is terrible I tried it and they had my eyes alllllll the way towards the bottom of the lenses. Had alllll the head room but I had to physically tilt my head down to see anything below eye level. And they had the IPD adjusts to where I saw the middle edges so badly and half of my FOV was just a black ring.
With the appropriate software, could the cameras in the controllers be used to scan bar codes or QR codes in a retail environment?
Best review so far
Thanks!
great review!!!
I don’t have a vr headset. Should I wait for quest 3 or wait for PSVR or buy quest pro or quest 2 now?
Love the Quest Pro!
Best review I’ve seen for quest pro till date💯
Thanks so much for the kind words!!
"Meta account and FB accounts are totally separate", so relieved to know 😅.
On a serious note, excellent detailed review.
does the headset still function while charging? If I was seated working would I be able to keep the headset charged with a long(ish) usb-c charger plugged in? or is functionality disabled like with the controllers
Yep, you can keep it plugged in to the wall charger while sitting at a desk. You could even plug it into a battery pack for extended gaming as well.
Do we need to join or pay a monthly or yearly fee to use the Quest pro? 🤔🙂
Does the Quest pro already have automatic plane detection like Meta promised it would receive?
To make up for the missing depth sensor.
Very solid review
Thanks!!
If u try using the side quest app on the phone one does it connect and second can u enable the 120 refresh rate
No 120hz refresh rate yet. And I'm not sure on side quest as I have used that in quite a long time. But I would imagine that support for the Quest Pro would be coming sooner than later.
I can't justify replacing my Quest 2 headset with the Pro but I am getting the new controllers for the better tracking and haptic feedback, finally archery, ADSing on guns and grabbing things off my back and hips will be much more reliable
Having had even more time with the controllers, they definitely make a noticeable difference and are much more comfortable/easy to use now that the ring is gone. Battery life has still been incredible too. There's no way you'll kill the battery in a single session.
Very comprehensive and now I have to go find that little plastic piece I threw away. I got the Pro because I have a very small head and wearing the Q2 headset gave me a neck ache. The Pro seems a lot better but is still not quite small enough for my head and I have to wear a skull cap to take up the difference or it falls down. Since I wear it for a hour a day and since my neck was at issue the $ seems worth it.
I love the quest pro!
I love that it does not sit on the bone cheeks haha that was a big reason for me to buy it. :D I love how light it feels too. And that now it is not uncomfortable to use my lenses with it!
Yeah, it's definitely more comfortable for extended periods of time. Even the new full cover light blocker is comfortable for long sessions (just got mine last week).
Do you know if there are 3rd party prescription lenses for this device? Thank You.
Unfortunately, I don't know. But since this is aimed at large corporations, it would make sense if you could get prescription lenses at a later date.
Vive XR Elite seems like the better option to me. For the same price as the Quest Pro, you could get the XR elite with the face tracking module to get all the quest pro features, plus it has a depth sensor for mixed reality and pass-through. On top of that, Vive isn't as likely to collect your data as meta is.
But you will not get QLED panels with local dimming because the XR Elite doesn't have them.
@Camaro ZL1 Guy in all honesty, the contrast doesn't matter very much to me. Obviously a higher contrast looks better, but the overall lens clarity and experience are what matters most to me.
Very good video. Thank you
Thanks!
You're the 1st person I've seen to try the Pro with glasses. How much of a risk is there of glasses coming into contact or touching the Pro's lenses? I know with the quest 2, glasses scratching the HMD's lenses is a BIG issue.
I'd say the risk is pretty slim. To reduce the risk further, you could start with the lens cranked out as far as possible from your eyes, then slowly adjust it in to a comfortable range. Then, every time you put the headset on, open up the back strap a little extra to give your glasses plenty of clearance before tightening.
I love my quest pro very much! Although one small issue with it, is after about an hour it starts hurting and giving me headaches, also leave massive red marks on your forehead.
the foveated rendering looks phenomenal! I wonder how easy it is to track eyes with tools made in Unreal Engine for research?
I have no intention of buying this. I just enjoyed the crisp and consise explaining.
Thanks!!
even with the cheaper quest 2 at $400, This still seems like tech that is still in it's infancy. To me it reminds of being able to play pong for the first time. Maybe when more real game companies start supporting main stream different genre vr, my mind will change.
Great review, just ordered a pro this morning after the big price drop, hopefully it improves clarity in FS2020 and ACC
How is it for watching movies? Is local dimming used. Is foveted rendering used?
@@mikestephenson4240 no idea, it was very uncomfortable to wear and didn't give me clear digital dash visuals in FS2020 so I returned it after 2 days. Will wait for the quest 3 but only if it's specs are better than the pro. It wasn't much of an upgrade in FS2020 over my quest 2 and way less comfortable
@@johnf6545 Did you also scale up the PCVR streaming settings or leave them at what your quest2 was running at?
@@Horendus123 I tried a lot of settings, everything recommended on youtube and FS2020 forums, nothing got rid of the poor resolution on digital displays and as I said the terrain was maybe a touch better but certainly not enough for me to keep the headset. The quest2 will be fine until something better comes along for me and with summer coming, gaming will be on the back burner until early winter anyway.
Im prob gon buy one this summer. You think its worth 1.4k?
Great review and mirrors my experience. This is the halo device for VR and I think we will see this for quite a few years yet before it gets replaced
Hi, I don't play VR games, but I watch movies on my Quest 2. I am not happy with its resolution and clarity. Would you think the Quest Pro will show the movies in better resolution although the resolution specs of both are very close? Thanks!
Movies will definitely look clearer because of the pancake lenses. The entire movie screen will be in focus, whereas the further anything is from the center on the quest 2, the blurrier it gets.
That said, I'm not sure the headset is worth $1500 if you're just going to be using it for movies. I'm sure there are other very clear headsets that you can get for watching movies at a much lower cost. For $1500, you could even buy a huge, high-quality TV to use for movies which will definitely give you a better image quality.
@Unmei why don't they
@Techisode TV need more info on this for movies in Skybox vr
My GOD! cant wait for vrchat implements face tracking for quest pro users without buying the thc face tracker or anything like that!!!
Omg... I am SO glad I didn't take out the trash yet. I missed that clip. Why is it SO hidden!?
Yeah, they really dropped the ball on the packaging of that part. Sure, it's nice and compact, but it's incredibly hard to miss. I've had three or four comments so far of people who almost threw theirs out as well and the video has less than 10k views at the moment. I think I'll upload a dedicated Short pointing this out to bring more awareness to this issue because the clip is super useful.
Big brain move by facebook hiding the side clip. I threw mine away, apparently they want you to open the quest pro like a child, tearing everything up.
What I'm asking myself, isnt the proprietary connector on the controller a problem with the new eu regulations regarding usb?
I've only heard about the new EU regulations briefly, but I thought that only applied to smartphones? That said, even if it was applied to all electronic devices, I'm sure there's verbiage in there that allows previously existing devices to continue to use proprietary chargers.
Ima buy one in a couple months
no, get quest 3 instead
I use Quest Pro for work (with Immersed) and it is really worth the price for me :-)
dang, am I the only one that deals with the controllers shutting themselves off from overheating in less than an hour??? unless I let them dangle from my wrists for 5 minutes to cool down every 15-20 minutes ill get a prompt saying something along the lines of them shutting themselves off if overheating continues in 5 minutes.
Mine did it once on the left controller.. otherwise I'm not a fan of them, too finicky with needing good lightning.
Can you see the individual pixels (screen door effect)?
Sorry for the late reply. Depending on the game/scene, if I have my reading glasses on and look REALLY closely at a static image, I can sorta tell. But I never noticed it until I looked really hard for it. And even now that I know it's there, I still never notice it when playing games, working, etc. I suppose if you have impeccable vision, it may bother you more than me.
Great review, made me buy the pro. Time to retire the Rift.
How they track mouth??
Downward facing camera. This thing is loaded with cameras haha.
I bought the quest pro and Im so happy with it :). The only problem I have, is the Pimax 12k qled releasing this year, so I have to sell it in 2 months for a way better headset
I haven't had a chance to try the Pimax headsets. Unfortunately, I've gotten so used to being full wireless with the Quest 2, now the Pro, I just can't go back to being tethered. If they made a Pimax with inside out tracking and either standalone or a wireless tether to the PC, that would definitely grab my interest.
Side note, especially now that I've seen what can be done with Foveated rendering, I don't see any reason why we can't have 180 degree field of view once foveated rendering could be baked into the hardware/software so that it just works on all games by default. Even if games needed to add support for it later, you could just black out the edges of the screen for a lower field of view with no foveated rendering.
@@TechisodeTV Pimax 12k qled will be standalone 😃
Lmao the 12k is not releasing this year, be lucky if it comes out in 2024
@@lurchilurch5507 yeah they clamed it to release in Q4 2022, funny enough its still not released in Q2 2023
I only got about two hours playing Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. I also wonder what will happen once the batteries eventually become un-rechargeable, as all rechargeables eventually do. That much of a price would not be bad if you didn't have to throw the unit away when the batteries wore out, but with a definite life horizon, it becomes something like Elon Musk wanting to make the frames of his cars be the batteries, or like iPhones. Once the batteries are shot, so is your device. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but that just seems wrong on so many levels. I'm still using my great grandmother's cast iron frying pan, cutlery, and china from 150 years ago. What could possibly make me want to exchange it for one in which the non-stick surface will start deteriorating and the whole thing will need to be replaced in three years, especially when the cast iron pan has 150 years of seasoning on it which makes it essentially non-stick? I guess I really don't understand this sending everything to the landfill where it sits and pollutes the soil and groundwater forever. At the very least, can't they make the batteries replaceable? I know that eventually it will become hopelessly obsolete, but even I can think of ways to make expensive equipment like this be a bit longer lived without reaching obsolescence quite quickly. The battery factor is the one thing which is making me thing more about the Quest 2 or 3 than the Pro. If it had a long life expectancy, then the price would be worth it.
As a former engineer, designed obsolescence is 100% a thing. When engineers design new products, they need to think about how they will be able to improve on the product in a future year to drive more sales. That sometimes results in leaving some things out with a current gen, or simply knowing your current solution isn't the best, and having an idea of how to make it better in the next revision.
Apple is the worst with this. They'll create a problem, then sell the solution. Point in case, change the charge port style of the ipad, but not add a wireless apple pencil charger and sell a separate accessory now required to charge older apple pencils, remove the headphone jack, sell an adapter, add a camera notch to the product one year, remove it in the next year and call it innovation and an upgrade, etc.
Apple is far from the only company doing this, but they are usually a little over the top with it.
The battery issue is two fold. For starters, using regular AA/AAA batteries takes up a lot more space in the hardware than a built in battery. Built in batteries can also have custom shapes, allowing for a greater battery capacity in a smaller space. Unfortunately, that also makes the batteries harder to replace. Sealed batteries also allow for waterproofing, like we see on smartphones. The second part with the battery is exactly what you described. Limited charge cycles means people will eventually need to pay a huge fee to replace the battery or upgrade to the next device.
That said, I honestly think the battery issue is more about comfort, form factor, and capacity, than it is about shortening the life cycle of a product, at least from an engineering standpoint.
Fortunately, you can plug an external battery pack into any quest headset to extend battery life as long as you want.
Edit: Side note, if you turn off face and eye tracking, you can get better battery life in games that don't support it.
But how do u actually turn the bugger off? Is it always in standby/using energy?
With the headset on your head, hold the power button for a few seconds. You'll see a menu pop up asking if you want to power off. You can click "power off" or keep holding the button until the headset turns off. If you just take the headset off and put it on the dock, it'll go into a low power mode while it charges so you can start back up faster when taking it off the charger.
@@TechisodeTV thank you for quick reply, avery good review :)
Things do look great in immersed but I can't work with the latency I get, even with WiFi direct at 5ghz turned on and a single 4k monitor.
Virtual desktop works much better for some reason but I was hoping to have multiple monitors.
Idk why there isn't a way to just use a USB-C display method for this, if it's supposed to be for work I need a constant and reliable latency. I was really hoping I could use Photoshop and light room this way.
I read somewhere they are working on a wired solution for Immersed. Would be pretty cool.
it needs to be a thing. it just seems like the easiest solution to latency especially when the alternative is me dropping over $200 on a brand new router or spending $100 on Facebook's new D-Link that apparently people have been having issues with anyway. And if either of those don't work what's my next step, trying to buy an even better graphics card?
I mean I would probably do it if I knew 100% that it would solve any latency issues, but laptops have USB c display ports anyway.
And my goal for the quest pro was to do things like Photoshop in it, where I could resize my monitor to be as big as I wanted it to be whether I was at home or at the office.
I have a wifi 6 motherboard and router with over a gigabit link speed over wifi, but my latency is still around 30ms in immersed. It's fast enough to get work done, but slow enough to notice the pointer occasionally lag a bit when moving the mouse around. One fix for this would be to hardwire the computer to your router with an ethernet cable. Unfortunately for me, my desktop is two floors up from my router so unless I drill a lot of holes in my walls and floors, I'm not getting ethernet into the office.
That said, I saw this video on how to speed up airlink. Some of those tips may apply here as well: czcams.com/video/-Tt-H4IIdJs/video.html
Hopefully this makes a difference until we get a wired Immersed option.
@@TechisodeTV ya I can get mine to about the same using WiFi direct. For a bit I managed to keep it around 9ms which was great but occasionally it likes to spike and it will drop to over 150ms. 30ms isn't bad but once it gets past that it's not even worth working in it especially if I'm doing detail work in Photoshop.
@@andrewkarn9255 Oh for sure. You need super precise movement for detailed photoshop work. I was really hoping we could use the pen tip for photoshop by bringing a screen onto the desk, but it looks like that’s not currently possible.
I tried to use pass through and it’s just a blackscreen
I think I will just wait for a quest 3 but curious about the pro
Sounds like a good choice. I'm sure the pancake lenses will make it to the Quest 3 and that's where you'll see the biggest improvement. And hopefully they include the new controllers as well. Just those two things would make the Quest 3 a worthwhile update to the Quest 2. Even if it cost $100 more than the Quest 2.
Many people that did a review on this said for 1500 or should be much better quality and that the actual optics aren’t that great. It’s very heavy for long time use also that being said it’s not made for day to day game play it’s for business use
I thought the first scene was a ad.
I like how red mater 2 still thinks the controllers are Rift controllers
You are wearing it wrong. The front should be a bit higher and the ratchet behind should be lower.Thats why you mic is a little bit too near to your mouth since you had some mic issues. And i can see your eyes watching upwards when you open the menu.
i jus wanna know if u can play rec room on it im a creator for the game and im lookin for an upgrade
I just tested it out and it works with no issues 👍
I cut off the inside flap of the blinders. A little better with glasses
Not a bad idea! I can definitely see how that would make it more comfortable.
Reverse the lightblockers I did that and they don't touch your face anymore, it looks like your wearing horns but nobody sees you
Lol, that’s awesome! I’m definitely going to test that out today. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@TechisodeTV I'm actually getting used to no blockers the screens are so clear it kind of blends in with my environment feels natural
the only negative for me is not being able to lay my head on a pillow as comfortably as i can with Quest 2. For things like DEMEO and Bigscreen i just lay there.
Yeah, I can see how laying down on the back of the headset might not be the most comfortable unless you have a good pillow.
cut a hole in the pillow to accommodate it
I have ZERO interest in the VR capabilities. What about AR ? How good is it with AR ?
Don't get this for AR. Check out the passthrough part of the video. It's definitely better than the Quest 2, but in no way a true AR experience.
It looks like a well designed product.
