I like the fact that he is honest about what is good and what is not-so-good about the Pro. Too many videos seem to just cheerlead whatever it is they are covering.

I hope you return to it with a follow-up in 6-8 months time to re-review it, specifically looking at what, if any updates have improved upon some of it's shortcomings.
I don't normally fully agree with anyone on everything but I do in this video. I have the pro and although the edge to edge clarity is insane I really have few issues. I am also testing the Pico 4 at the same time.
Pros
- It looks nice
- Incredible clarity, you can look at any edge and it's clear
- Colours look nice and vibrant
- Decent software when compared to Pico 4
- Will probably get some good apps down the line and the software will improve
- Good thing that Meta is putting a lot of their money and engineers towards VR
- Loads of exclusive apps although I hate extreme monopoly
- Good controllers but they also have some issue
Cons
- Too heavy for prolonged use specially as there is no strap on top of the head to counter balance the weight
- Gets hot after an 1hr, my forehead started to sweat and it also digs into the forehead after a while
- The charging hub is disgusting to put it politely, it takes so long to place the controllers and the headset
- Controllers are on the heavy side and they take a while to connect although they could hopefully correct this via software
- Short battery life
- Same resolution as the old Quest 2
- Price price and price
- Bit silly for Meta guys to say it can replace a monitor, this is with respect to the weight and resolution
It would have been the greatest headset if it had 2500x 2500 minimum resolution and an oled screen
Very interesting take, and I'm glad you gave it a thorough 2 week test before posting a video with all your results - nice to see a piece of tech properly tested and the reviewer not afraid to be honest about any issues.
I do like the sound of those 'quality of life' / comfort enhancements, but yes overall it seems to be lacking the polish that the price tag and 'Pro' moniker imply. A longer lasting battery and better IPD (even a simple plastic lock/unlock mechanism would do, it doesn't have to be motorised) would be top of my list; and no doubt the likes of VR Cover and Kiwi etc. will release accesories to improve the headstrap, light blocking and charging situation.
I'd actually rather not have the charging dock as standard, and have a reduced price. I don't find it difficult to charge my Q2 by plugging a cable into it on my desk. Also, I'd rather have a battery port on controllers than built in battery - makes the controllers cheaper and we can use our own rechargable batteries, that's much better I think.
I guess it appears to be a 'Q2.5' more than a 'Pro' but I'm sure software updates and third party accessories will, in time, solve some issues. And the price, well, Meta probably aren't going to sell many compared to Q and Q2, and unlikely to make much money off software sales so maybe that's reflected in the price.
It's interesting how the experience differs so much from one person to another. I have bought the Quest Pro few weeks ago and I found the view to be so much clearer than the Quest 2 and the headset also more comfortable. I play a lot of archery games, and the tracking there is a definitive improvement.
Everyone use word "clearer" with Pro...to me importance would be "sharper" comparable to Quest 2. So it IS Sharper images with CZcams VR ?

I've owned my QP 3 days and fitted a Bobo B2 battery to double battery life and a side to side strap from my Q2 that's stopped the front and rear head discomfort experienced by many owners, it also makes carrying the QP and placing it on the charger much easier. I'm still on the fence regarding whether to return it or not for the following reasons.
NEGATIVES
1. I don't get why Meta supply partial light blockers but charge 50 for a full light blocker and then it has to be removed to charge the QP. This means that to eliminate light reflection from the lenses the lights must be dimmed or switched off which is crazy when the QP cost 1500.
2. Many owners are complaining of front and back head discomfort, why didn't Meta get the padding right, for me it's not soft enough and why didn't they supply an additional cross strap for those experiencing discomfort.
3. Why have Meta supplied a protective cover that has to be removed to charge the QP.
4. Why only 250gb surely for the price it should have been at least 512gb.
5. The price is to high considering all the short comings and an old chip has been used.
6. Installing my games and apps seems to be taking days which is a common issue for some reason.
POSITIVES
1. The controllers are a huge improvement over the QP controllers and being rechargeable they sit on the charger between uses so no more flat batteries during use.
2. I like the form factor with the gap at the bottom making it easier to see things like my phone, watch or a document etc though I wish for the price Meta had supplied a third light blocker giving the option to fill the gap.
3. I find the QP easier to put on and take off.
4. I love hand tracking that means I can leave the controllers on the charger and still use my QP.
5. Pass through is an improvement over the Q2, I can now walk to another room wearing my QP without bumping into things though it could be better.
6. I like the continuous IPD adjustment as opposed to the 3 settings on the Q2, I recall the Q1 IPD was also being continuous.
7. As a glasses wearer I like being able to adjust the distance of the lenses from my glasses.
8. I like the charge station it beats having to plug into the headset to charge it.
9. I edit video on a Macbook Pro I like being able to add larger AR screens when editing though I still have more testing to do on this front.
10. Eye tracking is excellent though I've not made full use of this yet.
11, Face tracking is good though I've only used it in Horizon Worlds which is as bad as Rec Room, hopefully I'll use it more as I become more familiar with my QP functionality.
I'm still learning about what my QP can do after owning the Q1 then the Q2. So far the positives are outweighing the negatives and make the price easier to live with, whilst I'm still on the fence about sending it back to Amazon the more I use my QP the positives are pushing me toward keeping it and hopefully as updates start appearing things will improve more.

When we see Teams using real avatars (not cartoons) in VR, and moving this more realistic experience onto Quest hardware, I think it will be compelling for enterprise users who need productivity tools on the move. The pressures workers are under to return to the office nowadays mean we need, more than ever, portable VR devices we can use on the train, plane or taxi to maintain the efficiencies we gained during the pandemic.
Great review! I'm loving mine because I hate Fresnel lens and love the pancake lens, but my greatest negative is the pain caused by extended use of the forehead cushion that can be excruciating and causes me to readjust the headset over and over. Hopefully there will be a third-party replacement to make this better.

fun thing to know, you can 3d print light blockers that go over your lenses to completely block the light from entering

This just make me excited for VR in general and what’s to come. With PSVR 2 around the corner and Apples alleged plans for their own headset. For now the Quest 2 is taking the lead for gaming and when PSVR 2 comes out that’ll be a close second I can imagine.

Great review Nathie, as as Quest Pro owner I pretty much agree with all your points. The XR2 gen 1 chip, no depth sensor, low quality passthrough and only 1800 x 1920 per eye resolution makes this device look like it was meant for a 2021 release rather than the end of 2022.
That said, I bought it primarily for games and as a PCVR headset using the official link cable it is a massive upgrade over my Vive Pro 2 and Reverb G2 experiences. The pancake lenses are superb with true edge to edge to clarity that combined with the much larger FOV and great colours are making every game experience seem like a much more immersive, remastered version of what I had before.
I'm delighted with the headset as it stands right now, but I think that it's very much like the Quest 1, a proof of concept device powered by hardware not really fit for the job. I'm really hoping they release a Quest Pro 2 in the next 12 -18 months with the XR2 gen 2 chip, plus higher resolution displays, and a much improved passthrough experience.
I'm someone who really likes to experience technology as it develops, and seeing mixed reality currently in the same state as VR was back in 2017 on my CV1 is exciting as I will get to see it evolve in real time.
But if a user just wants a fully developed, commercial ready product, they would be better off waiting for the Quest Pro 2, which I'd imagine is only 18 months or so away anyway.
If you primarily use it for PCVR, the Pico 4 would probably have been a better upgrade. It has higher res screens and it also has great pancake lenses. And it's a quarter of the price...
The Pico is great value for money for sure, but its lenses and displays aren't comparable to the Quest Pro. The brightness, colours, contrast and absence of distortion, mura, ghosting, and chromatic aberration are all much better on the Quest Pro.
They are great for the price though.
When connected via cable on pc for pcvr gaming, how long the battery last?
The resolution is kinda deceptive. While it is lower res than the Q2 the Pro uses one whole panel for each eye as opposed to both eyes sharing the same panel on the Q2. This greatly improves the pixel density. That plus the pancake lenses make for a very clear viewing experience. Also there is better color range and black levels than Q2.
I think that any true PCVR enthusiast who wants the best 'Overall' VR headset currently available, the Quest Pro is pretty hard to beat. Everyone's results will differ of course, but I'm loving my QP! I've already added a front to back top strap mod (3/4" Velcro strapping) and this has helped a lot. I'm sure 3rd parties will offer elegant battery, comfort, and facial interface improvements in the near future. If you can afford $1,500 it's well worth it imho. I found getting the headset and controllers on the charging stand was REALLY fiddly too. I'd rather just plug them in with a cable. The other problem I had was the immaturity of the AR SDK. Apple's AR SDK is light years ahead of Meta's already. So disappointing. They really need to step up their game here.
If they release a Quest 3 next year with a faster processor, same optics as the Quest Pro, similar form factor to Pico 4, lighter (no face tracking or fancy AR) and Pro controllers as an optional extra, then I would buy it in a heartbeat. The Pro's optics are the best I've seen. Fairly wide FOV, clear to the edge and virtually no glare.
pico 4 uses 1 camera that's why the passthrough looks better. it is really difficult to combine 2 images at one as quest pro uses 2 cameras. I think it would be better to have eater 1 great camera in the middle or 3 average ones

I recommend using the Quest pro for work instead of gaming due to its 1-2 hour battery life which, for some, isn't very long. However, if Meta, or any other company, releases a decent battery extension maybe something like the elite battery strap then maybe it will be a bit better or a lot better but I don't know if it's really worth the money, but hey, that's just my opinion, some may not agree.
I just bought it at 1.100 on Amazon.

Ok I’m new to this is the base station and sensors an immediate must have. It’s all so expensive and like most, I’m not rich
I also feel they should have waited for the XR 2 gen 2 chip to release a pro. The extra power would have really set this thing over the edge
The controller rings should be on those because those are expensive and it might get u hurt so if it falls it might break a thumbstick while the rings can protect it

It really is an incredibke piece of tech.
To the people saying it's too expensive...that is fine. It's not for you.
But the build quality and the overall feel and experience is significantly better than the quest 2. I can't stop using this thing. No more eye strain with the beautiful optics. The haptics and pro controllers alone are amazing devices. The whole experience just feels so premium so for me it's worth it.
It's like someone saying a first class seat on a plane isn't worth it. Well it is I'd you can afford it and once you have tried it you definitely won't want to go back.

Is it safe to leave Quest Pro controllers overnight charging even though they are fully charged?
I had the same issues with the pressure on my forehead. For some skulls this fitting won't work well.
It looks like a good dev-kit unit. Not so sure it's a worthy upgrade gaming wise. Looking forward what all the devs will create with the Pro.
If the caring case and full light blockers where included for 1499€ I would’ve considered it but for 1800€ 🙃🙃🙃

Highly doubt many people are wondering about the question in the title of the video... It's fairly obviously better but probably also not something most people with a Quest 2 would be interested in buying for the asking price.
Wait I just realise that the quest pro you can remove the cushion and there will be some companies that they could put a better cushion on it
While there are lot of cons. I am feeling confident that the Quest 3 will be THE ONE VR device we all should/will go for. This feels like a dev kit.

Once more games support foviated rendering, it will be the Quest Pro for sure.
The pancake lenses are bright and have a vastly expanded sweet spot. The twin micro LED displays combined with local dimming bring with them vivid colors and only blacks.
Red Matter 2 is the first game to support fobiated rendering and it makes a major difference in clarity, particularly when reading documents within the game.
in just raw power Quest Pro for sure, slightly better chip, even if productivity oriented, but with ventilation and more battery it use the 100% of power, Quest2 because of overheating and battery is set to around 75%, this is why headset with the same chip, but better cooling, can achieve more performance, like the pico4.. but obviously the developers needs to update their game for the Pro or you will just have the same experience of Q2.
Saying so you need to put the new lenses in consideration, the image is way more clearer in the Pro, no godray or other stuff presents in the old one, plus more fov
The controllers are way better, Nathie said that they are not really for gaming but I found it wrong, in games like beatsaber are way better, or even in games with archery or where in general you could put one of the controller behind your head... it's like having the lighthouse without the lighthouse.
But at the end depends on price per performance, are this upgrade worth 1000$ difference? In my opinion if your main, or only, task is gaming, NOT.,.. if you have the money to invest you can buy it and enjoy it for sure, but I would wait for an actual gaming headset like the Q3, cheaper and with only the gaming part that you really need... Probably, even if expensive, would make more sense upgrade the controllers and add this upgrade to the experience for a "lower" price

Honestly, if a company bought this they would probably have the feeling of knowing they can’t spend more money but then see all the other cheaper and better headsets that came out after the pro but spent too much so they can’t buy it
I won't waste my money on a business headset even though you can play games on it to. I think it's smarter to wait for the quest 3 designed for gaming and if It do some things like the Quest Pro. Great. I just want the best "GAMING" experience they can bring us.
@@michelverheijen6643 I believe there are games able to be played on the pro. As for the Quest to that is actually up to game developers to decide when to create and release. There are new companies with new headsets so they have more programming to do.

@@nathie is this not correct though Nathie, money and hype talk. The best games are immersive and compel the player to long for the next release or expansion but to do that generally a buttload of time in development and programming has to be expected. We as gamers are very demanding childlike beings wanting to be amazed, entertained, about to replay and even have unexpected different results everything we go into VR. The amount of time programmer's have to commit to produce games is amazing. It's a wonder when customers gripe they don't find a way to permanently make their login credentials vanish and removed from the games servers. Lol

The microphone is actually a hit and miss it seems. I wonder if it's a hardware issue, or something that a firmware update can fix. The mic is supposed to be a significant improvement (According to Meta). The UploadVR guys had one really good mic headset, while the other Quest Pro they had sounded terrible (But very different than your terrible sound).
I am aware of this. Overall the production quality seems to be all over the place. I have seen people report different ipd ranges and also some say there display is worse compared to the one they tried at the store. In the end I just reviewed what I got but I do wonder how big the percentage of production flaws is.

I don’t understand the debates around this headset at all. Even if you consider literally nothing but MR capability it’s worse than things like HoloLens-but cheaper to the tune of thousands. Other mixed reality tech worth owning with any real content or usability beyond demos is SO much more expensive that at this stage, it’s a marvel that even slightly lower level MR tech is in our hands at this price point. Does it need work? Yes, it’s not perfect right now, but meta is incredibly good at subsidizing content and pushing software updates. Another thing I’ve heard is that quest 2 “already has the same MR Capabilities” it doesn’t. Black and white blown out completely destroys the experience and gives people (at least anecdotally based on my experiences) headaches. The somewhat sharper and color passthrough of the pro isn’t ideal, but it’s usable for real purposes.
Those features and improvements aside, consider that this headset is the quest 2… but better in every single possible metric OTHER than price. Visuals, comfort, audio, processing power, controller tracking (which might I add will be the new industry standard because lighthouses are inconvenient for average people and force good tracking into an enthusiast niche), and the software, while imperfect, is light years beyond anything any other company has produced. (WMR is dead. SteamVR is buggy and requires tinkering).
I bought this headset expecting to return it based on what I had heard. Instead, the quest 2 is going on eBay and I’m not looking back. Even if this headset was only usable for PCVR, I would still be keeping it. The reality is though, that it does everything, and all of it quite well with lots of room for improvement that WILL come.
What’s not to love?

two years after the release of the Quest 2 the Quest Pro looks like an unfinished business developer kit with some good ideas but lacking basic next-generation features. In addition to this the static headset design is a total desaster in my opinion.

Yes the quest pro controllers are compatible with the quest 2. But they are pretty expensive, I don't recommend buying them unless you need to replace your quest 2 controllers.

At 1,500 bucks, I can't justify that price tag. I already love my Quest 2 for gaming & working out and that was only for 299. Pro's got a brilliant premium design and concept for business & creative use, but I'd rather just stick with my Quest 2 for VR Gaming at a 1/5th of the price, and forgo the slight upgrade and new, if not fully fleshed-out features.
I think I'll just save my money and get either the PSVR2 or the Quest 3 at whatever point they come out next year :)

The quest 2 didn't fit me at all until I replaced the headstrap and facial interface, this seems even less "one-size-fits-all" then the 2. Strange that meta doesn't have more concern for people actually being able to wear these devices.
