PS5 DualSense Controller’s Best Features

- With adaptive triggers and haptic feedback inside, the DualSense offers new opportunities for PS5 gameplay and connecting what's on screen to the controller in your hand. But it has to be used for more than just Astro's Playroom.
The PlayStation 5 sports faster load times and improved graphics over its predecessor, but its controller is the thing you're probably going to notice most as you dive into your next-generation gaming experiences. The DualSense sports a bunch of improved technology, from its adaptive triggers to its dynamic haptic feedback, that elevate the games that use it well.
The best showcase for the DualSense we've seen so far is Astro's Playroom, the 3D platformer that comes bundled with the PS5. It uses every speck of capability the DualSense offers, showing off its enhanced rumble features with feedback based on what surfaces you're walking on and what actions you're taking, changing the tension of the adaptive triggers to mimic what Astro is doing on screen, and adding the touchpad, microphone, and gyroscope into the mix to amplify them all.
Check out the video above for our impressions of the DualSense--including why we're a bit worried about its long-term prospects. We've got plenty more PS5 coverage now and in the coming weeks, so be sure to stick with GameSpot to catch it all. - Hry
Man that axe coming back to you in the next God of War is going to feel awesome.

That's a shame that developers aren't implementing these features. I was really impressed with it while playing astro playroom. I wish more games could use it
Hopefully Devs use everything like GTAV did at points. they used the Lightbar, Speaker and the Touchpad which was great.
Rockstar is always good at this. They even used sixaxis motion controls on PS3 GTA IV.
Did they use the touchpad though? The light bar, sure, flashing depending on the game activities, and the speaker, sure, having the audio from phone calls through it, but the touchpad? It just opens up the menu.

The controller is no doubt a huge leap forward in tech compared to the past. Its like when we passed from no rumble to rumble features on controllers. It will start slowly but gradually these amazing features will become the norm for net gen games.
Maybe but the past shows probably not
This is what I've been waiting for. A proper explanation besides. 'It rumbles' thank you.
This controller will actually really enhance horror games. Imagine just walking. Then everything goes dark and silent. Then the rumble of the controller slowly increases in intensity. You want to turn on ur flashlight but the buttons don't work so u run but the intensity keeps increasing. And then... Quiet all of a sudden

"Pinpoint sensations in different places on the gamepad" This one intrigues me the most. In shooters developers use intrusive UI elements to tell you which direction you are getting shot at. I turned off all UI elements in TLOU II but now it is harder to tell from which direction I am getting shot at only based on sound, so having some pinpoint physical feedback on the controller can be a more immersive solution to this.
The next NaughtyDog title better use all of these features extensively!

great touch with R2-L2.
I hope next time they add sensitive R1-L1.
The simplicity with which developers can implement the haptics and adaptive triggers means that it will be adopted by a large swathe of third parties, particularly the haptics, as that is present in lieu of traditional rumble motors. Haptics can be implemented easily through piping in-game sound effects through the dual voice-coil actuators, thus effectively resulting in “zero-effort” on the developers’ part. There are already a large swathe of third party titles making use of all the features of the DualSense and judging by the developer feedback, implementation is made stupidly easy through PS5’s SDK. So all this bodes very well for DualSense adoption from the beginning to the end of this incoming generation.
Bro im so excited to know what the haptics and the triggers feel like.

The adaptive trigger is suitable for recreating this pedal feel and will allow the player to accurately feel and understand the relationship between desired braking force and tire grip

It doesn’t work like that
Gran Turismo 7 should make great use of the Dual Sense.
Loved the rumble in the triggers on the Xbox One controller when playing Forza.
I expect that on steroids.
Its a shame that so many games don't use all of this stuff. Like In spiderman. Idk if its in it or not, but when you do a dive off a building. The 6 axis could be used to twist and aim spiderman. And in the story when you have a button timed part and you have to aim your webs. I hope they got creative with the triggers and web tensions and impacts. yes. PS plus games that you won't be able to collect will be the monthly ones. All of those are for free forever. It could change, but they haven't stated anything. Not even that it will last forever but it seems like that because it's like the response the xbox game pass
you get them regardless.
I think the only reason devs will give this a chance is because of Astros playroom. When they test this out and see how they can use it in their games, it might spark them to actually develop for it. They should have done something with Miles besides his web shooting. If they implement it effectively, that would go along way to others copying and creating new innovative ways to use it.
Can I run it on PC?
Does the adaptive triggers work on r1 and l1
No
Also usefull for those with bad hearing.
Do all the haptics work on desktop?
Yes
Theres also the fact that Astros playroom was made to push the limits of the Dualsense and exaggerate their use. Its an option to use the features and some games will do that but Sony is allways putting more than enough. Thats what I love about them, they allways give you the choice

Is it Thursday yet?!
the dual sense sounds amazing but I feel like this feature won't make it into most indie and triple A games outside of Sony devs bc they won't utilize this feature like the touch pad. ubisoft for example will likely not bother to take advantage of the dual sense
There are already a lot of games that announce support including Watch Dogs and Immortals Fenyx Rising, there difference between this and touch pad is that with touchpad you actually need to find real gameplay use for it, with DualSense Haptic Feedback, if you are already going to define when the controller is going to rumble, you can choose what kind of rumble you want at the same time.
Sony have simplified the job for them, Mark Cerny in his presentation has said that they have created hundreds of profiles for common stuff like sand, wood and metal and developers can just pick they profile they want, I bet everything used in this game is already in the form of profiles accessible by third parties
cod, fortnite, dirt5, nba, madden, returnal, resident evil, fifa, deathloop, rockstar all gonna use this features
I think it will help if Microsoft implemented the same idea to xbox controllers like it would be enough to support the gimmick for third party games considering Sony doesn’t have incentives to release drivers on Windows.
Is that the only game for the controller ??
Is the 5 hour battery life considered a feature?

@@zacharietelles7626 You are quite right, I even intend to put a battery with more power if it is available
I really really want this controller to get utilized, but I can't help but think about the Wii. Many (including me) were so hyped to see the applications of motion controls. Then most developers just lazily added motion controls to actions that would be objectively better with a button press. Waving the controller to make Link attack may have been more immersive, but it was so much worse than a button press because of the response time and the fact that motion controls don't always work.
This seems a more logical step than motion controls. More iterative and less revolutionary, which means it is more likely to get utilized. Like the video said though, it needs developers willing to commit to the platform. I'm glad Sony is pushing the bar forward, but I fear the push back is going to win (this generation at least).
Problem with the Wii was that the motion technology was too primitive. It did not track your movement at all which is why a lot of games turned into waggle fest. Perhaps if the tech was better developers would utilize it more meaningfully like in VR games. PSVR games work by far the best with move controllers and for some games like Iron Man VR it is downright required to play. Now of course it is impossible to tell whether haptic feedback and adaptive triggers can be implemented meaningfully in most video games. Especially for the latter since we never had triggers that change tension before, but early previews of Astrobot's Playroom and the DualSense are super positive so the hardware seems to be there and the rest is up to other developers' creativity.
4 days to go!
