Which of these female creatures gives you the shivers?
Yuki-onna.
My ex
My uncle John, he's a mechanic.
But y'now who taught him? MY MOM!!!
Keeping the likes and comments balanced
The huntress from dbd that kind of lore is really creepy but also sad
The one with the surgical mask became much more scary recently because now she can hide in plain sight
Uh-oh! Kuchisake-Onna has Capitalized on COVID-19
🤣🤣🤞🏽underrated comment
I know, right?😂
😂😂😂
Carry pockets full of candy 😂
The Slit-Mouth Woman is one of my favorite stories. There are ways you can escape her unharmed. One way is if she ask you if she's pretty, just tell her you're busy. Thanks to Japanese etiquette, she'll have no choice but to let you go. She may be a monster but she still has manners.
You could also logic her out by explaining why she is still pretty even if she is deformed. But logic is hard to follow
I've also heard you can give a neither good or bad answer, saying "you're fair / medium / so-so" and that'll confuse her, giving you time to escape
😂
Just say, "Beauty is constantly subjective, always changing form like some sort of shape shifting organic thing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Then throw a mirror up in front of her face so she sees her own reflection. "Are you pretty? Are you...beautiful?"
She will probably be so distracted that you can finally shoot her through the mirror. Hopefully one remembers the gun.
You can also ask her if she thinks you're pretty.
The Banshee in Irish myth is a good thing she fore warns the family of a member who will die. Giving time to say goodbye and settle their affairs.
I heard that the banshee used to hunt for the members of Irish royalty and kill them. Only if you were descended from Irish Kings would you be killed.
@@thearishok2802 nope
All Banshees in movies or series sonic scream and cause many people to hear and their eardrums and blood vessels to explode super fast.I think at the same time.
I was expecting La Llorona...
me too . so insulting
Came here to find this comment. They could have at least given La Llorana a mention when they talked about Banshees
Just wait for the Part 2 Dumbass
@@rianadiwijatmiko3943 is there gonna be a part 2?
*scoffs* la chancla is much more scary
The “Aswang” should’ve been more specific, as it literally translates to monster. It could have been “Manananggal” to be more specific and a better entry to the list.
No mention of the Batibat? The overweight sleep demon from Ilocano folklore not that Freddy Kruger wanna-be from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Yep, Aswang consists of male monsters, not only female
Maybe they were too chicken to try to pronounce Manananggal
@@wolvie1618 they pronounced it right in 10 scariest mythical creatures
If they want a female aswang, they should put Maria Labo instead
#1: Mother-In-Law
Everyone I've asked has said they love their mother-in-law, but there must exist some being out there that has terrified all spouses.
Naw number 1 is Karen. 😂
Fucking hell you again
@Joseph Hernandez Also no more feminist jokes.
@@narutomato_uzumaki 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That s common in Balkan's
We need a part 2
Yup. And male too
yes, they forgot to add Hydra.
And tiamat
The Selkie from Scottish/Irish folklore would be a good one for that list given that she's known for not being forgetful of, and forgiving of guys that are scumbags her preferred punishment for men who willingly cheat/abuse on their girlfriend/fiancée/wife is using her beautiful human form to lure said scumbags out into the ocean or a deep lake, then pop out a couple seconds later revealing her true form of a human-seal hybrid and then proceeding to drown said scumbag.
Holy shit, someone call a witcher
or the Winchester bros or the Halliwell sisters
@Outrageous Accent! sorry but the Halliwells are the most powerfull force of good
@Outrageous Accent! whatever the Halliwell are the best
Most of these are Demons so I'm calling Doom Guy or the 4 horsemen
@Outrageous Accent! yeah, but they didnt defeat God's sister and beside I bet the Halliwell could fight agaisnt Lucifer
Poor Scylla. She was a nymph in a love triangle with a god and a witch, she had no way out.
Scylla has creeped me out ever since I first learned of her from reading 'The Adventures of Ulysses' in 6th grade.
Jenny Greenteeth is nightmare- fuel.
I"m glad that Kuchisake- Onna made the list. I heard about her in a monster book once, she sounds so grisly, yet seems like she often goes overlooked on lists like this.
17:48 Yes, but she also has a tragic origin story that makes me feel sorry for her.
You know I once chanted Bloody Mary into a mirror, and nothing happened
And I didn’t know if I should’ve been glad or sad
Or just because she know you got a hammer to smash her face when she show up
I did the same thing on a dare during a birthday. After nothing happened i screamed scaring the pants out of everyone that were in the house 🤣
Damn bruh, You're so ugly even paranormal entities avoid you
That's kinda sad actually
Me and a group of girls did the chant in the public bathroom at school and they ran out screaming that they saw her, but i followed so after cause i didnt see anything in the mirror.
I was hoping to see some clips from Grimm at least for Aswang. 😜
Also didn't see a clip with Todd Haberkorn in this list. Hehehe.
Nice list! Could you also do a 'Top 20 Terrifying Male Creatures from Myths and Legends' list please?
As a Filipino, thank you for pronouncing 'aswang' correctly.
So, a monster that wants virgins, pregnant woman and mothers. Why does this scream central Louisiana to me?
Lol underrated comment xD.
Medusa had such a tragic backstory. She tried to run away from Poseidon's advances, but he chased her down and raped her inside the temple where she served as a priestess. Athena, the patron goddess of that temple, blamed Medusa for what happened instead of Poseidon. It's kind of a reflection of what often happens with modern rape cases. Turning Medusa into a gorgon was Athena's way of punishing her, making sure no man would ever look on her with lust again.
its so sad greek mythology is so interesting but so dark, gods dont have a sense of justice and they cannot keep it in their pants😭😭
I was always taught that Athena felt sorry for her, since Medusa had dedicated her life to Athena and transformed her into a gorgon so she would never have to suffer like that again.
@@vero1800 I think that's another version of the story
that's the version written by a Roman poet named Ovid, who hated Athena and Poseidon. In Greek mythology, Medusa was never human
@@Trying_todo_better While this version of Medusa isn't Greek, what you're saying is still pretty much true, since the Greeks had no interest in portraying their gods as fully righteous or pure, they wanted them to be a reflection of the world as it was and a reflection of humanity
What happened to La llorona
Watch mojo supports trump so that will be a NO!
@@Vin-fu1rm 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is my kind of list!!! I absolutely LOVE mythology!!
These creatures influenced many fighting game characters...
1. Succubus: Morrigan and Lilith (Darkstalkers)
2. Banshee: Sindel (Mortal Kombat)
3. Slit-Mouth Woman: Mileena (Mortal Kombat)
Medusa: Rider (Fate/Stay Night)
Love the Supernatural scenes! Cool video
i appreciate the mojo team for their mythological lists. i find them very inspiring. thank you.
I always thought Medusa became infinitely more beautiful after she transformed than she ever was as an ordinary human woman. So beautiful, sexy and powerful...men being rendered powerless in her very presents what the hell is there not to like? In my opinion, Athena did her a huge favor now no man God or otherwise will ever take advantage of you again. If they have ill intent, turn their no good asses to stone and put them in your garden.
Great Video! Will there be one with male creatures as well? If yes, I recommend the Cú Chulainn from Irish mythological
MANANANGGAL
Its half-torso has devil-like wings which when it flies, it leaves its bottom part of land while the Manananggal searches for mostly young men, or handsome men. It is said that this typr of Aswang manifests a charming and beautiful woman around 20s and/or 30s. They are very attractive women that lures young and handsome men for them to be feasted at night. Like Medusa, but they fly and hunts people and feast on them midair. Filipino Folklore.
Awesome video!!!!!! This is so cool! Ninth comment WatchMojo is the best!
I want to see the male version of this list pretty soon.
anyone who gets mad or triggered because i want both genders specific creatures should go outside and allow the sun to remove the karen from their bodies.
I would too
Ahhhhhh she said remove the Karen from their bodies
I want to see a male version and an animal version
I'm sure they already made one a while back
Typhon would be #1
I'm happy to see our Soucouyant mythology on this list. Thank you.
Aswang is one of those scared creatures here in the Phillipines. Sometimes they can change their appearances such as transforming as an animal like a pig. And also, there are also "male" aswangs believed here in the Phillipines. 👻
When I heard about the Dziwożona replacing children with 'Changelings' or even shapeshift themselves to seduce men, I think any remaining fan of My Little Pony can agree that a certain "Creepy bug queen" meets all the marks for that. Guess saying Dziwożona in a little kids show was too complicated or might upset the Karens that know of the satanic creature.
Edit to add: I can't really take the Lamia and Harpy seriously cause of a certain harem manga/anime. Don't know if there are more of the monsters on the list, but I do hope they use some footage of the more lighthearted side of those mythical creatures.
Beautiful addition of a few choice scenes from The Odyssey (1997 miniseries).
Thanks WatchMojo, for the nostalgia; For reminding us how wonderful the miniseries was, but also how powerful and how terrifying Christopher Lee's voice could be.
R.I.P. to Mr. Lee. The man was a legend!
Where's La llorona?!
Nobody gives a fuck about that bitch it anything Mexican

Excuse me I think I heard something downstairs...
@@narutomato_uzumaki No they don't because we're also getting feminist jokes.
The banshees actually watch over my family, because we were one of the originals I learned this when I was in elementary school and have learned to accept it as something that can't be changed and not to fear them. They are also seen as protectors protecting the original five families; the O'Neills, the O'Briens, the O'Connors, the O'Gradys and the Kavanaghs.
when I was a child I had this nightmare the ballerina ride in amusement park suddenly came to life and was chasing me it was even more scarier than all the witches combined
Kuntilanak, Leak, Sundel Bolong, Nyi Roro Kidul, And Nenek Gayung are top tier Female ghost's/myths from Indonesia that needs to be included in the part 2
Number 1: *KAREN*
They're real as well...
True that
The kraren
Yes, sadly Karens are not from myths or legends, but from real life
Lol good one
I definitely agree that there should be a part 2.
Also, I knew most of the clips would be from Supernatural hahah
Unlike the other ones that crawls under my skin, I don’t think I’m that brave enough to call Bloody Mary.
17:48 Yes, but she also has a tragic origin story that makes me feel sorry for her.
10:35 that's the reason why people dont wear mask during n-Covid quarantine,no doubt
Do u know how i got this scars xD
@@AbhishekRai-xc6zc play dumb with guns?
Aswang is an Umbrella term, so there are many types of Aswang such as "mananangal" (lit. The one who detaches) or "Tik-tik" (referring to the fast ticking sound they make).
If you think Shtriga should be on the list, drop a like 👍
@Ozymandias Nullifidian look up videos of the Shtriga from the Witcher.
@Ozymandias Nullifidian it was in an episode of Supernatural 1x18 it was sucking the life force out of children
Mananangal: a Filipino folklore much more scarier than aswang.
I was wondering if she was gonna mention them

Me, too.
I love how most of the clips are from Supernatural. Hahaha we have everything
I was gonna say so!! haha

me: watching this alone downstairs at 4AM
I think the "Qallupilluit" from Inuit mythology scares the hell out of me!
thx watch mojo you include our folklore the aswang from philipines...
I enjoyed this list, and I am a legendary believer in all kinds of mythology, especially in humanoid creatures. Also means favourites of mine is werewolves and vampires as well.
Nice to see some Trinidad folklore on your channel I grew up on soucoya stories an douwen
lol I love the barrel scrapping here
Aswang. I can't believe Aswang is there. I'm so happy. Thank you for mentioning Aswang. :)
Baba Yaga in Smite!
Edit: plz do more of this!
I see you Todd Haberkorn!!! 13:37 during the Banshee part of the video!!
Wow, all 20 terrifying but legendary female creatures indeed.
I'd watched something a long time ago on the Kuchisake Onna and it said the only way to escape from her is to confuse her giving you a chance to run away.
That's what the character Mileena is based on from Mortal Kombat
@@dubstepphene82, That make sense though she would not get confuse and still kill the person who tried to confuse her.
Of course Medusa takes the spotlight. Was once beautiful until she turned into a monster. I think I’m starting to know why the creators changed her name to Sedusa in The PowerPuff Girls. Instead of a scary mythical girl turning everyone to stone, she’s a badass smooth talking villainess in red and black with white skin. My mom was bullied behind her back. Her classmates freeze when my mom looks at them.
Great list, There are some legends from Latin America such as La Llarona aka the Weeping Woman and the one I know from my family’s home country El Salvador, La Sihuanaba, said to lure men to bodies of water by her beautiful long black hair, only when they get closer she reveals her true face to their shock.
Yoooo!!! The Sihuanaba scared the crap outta me when my grandma told me about it!
We all love ur vids
woah
a good list
Hey watchmojo, nice video,Great voice,in your next video like this, don't forget the swahili she devil 'shimuleta'.
I'm surprised you didn't add the terrifying banshee from Darby O'Gill and the little people into the Banshee entry. That scared me to death and still does
If Medusa isn’t number 1 we riot at midnight.🔥
I skipped the whole list just for you
Me:saw title
Also me:medusa is top1
I predict Hydra, Medusa, and Succubus in top 5.
no name required 3033 aka tomatosauce wn echidna should have been included
#2-I remember those pictures of Baba Yaga because I used have the book "Wizards And Witches" from the "Time-Life" series.
I wish I still had that book

Number 1- Mother in Law
Number 2- Karen
Number 3- That one metal girl with all the piercings and dyed hair
Number 4- Girlfriend

I love how supernatural is literally have almost all these myths
We don't speak Gaelic in Ireland. We speak Irish, or in the Irish language it's Gaeilge (Gale-geh). Gaelic is spoken by the Scottish.
I'm quite sure if I remember, you can beat Kuchisake Onna by answering her question with "You're Average". Itll supposedly confuse her long enough for you to make run for it and escape.
Kuchisake Onna "Do you think I'm pretty NOW?!"

2. Succubus
3. Kuchisake Onna

5. Mudusa
6. The empress from silent hill
7. Nure Onna
8. Faceless ghost
9. Yuki - onna

11. The owl witch
No. 8 Black Annis. I'm just impressed you pronounced Leicestershire correctly :D

It's my understanding that mares are the supernatural explanation for sleep paralysis, and sleep apnea.
People with sleep paralysis have reported something sitting on their chest making it hard to breathe or a man with a top hat and glowing red or yellow eyes staring at them.
Oh oh oh watch mojo do a video on that :)
Haha love the use of Jurassic World
10:27. Kuchisake-Onna are everywhere now...
You guys should check out PBS Storied channel, they often speak about these kind of mythical creatures
Honorable mention - MalO (Internet Folklore)
Also known as SCP-1471-A, she resembles a black werewolf with her skull exposed. According to SCP lore there is an app people can download onto their phones that advertises never be lonely again. Those who do download the app will periodically receive pictures of the entity MalO at locations the user frequently visits. A few days later they receive pictures of MalO right beside them and finally the user will start seeing her in his peripheral vision and reflective surfaces. Her motives are unnkown.
tbf, Medusa is more of a tragic story and asshole greek gods than a mean monster so if you are planning to stop something like the kraken, a beast supposedly controlled by greek gods.. well, you might as well put on a blindfold and ask for her assistance and she just might give it just to stick it to the gods that transformed her into what she is.
Also, I would love to see a top 20 beneficial or good female creatures from myths and legends.
as example, kitsunes(though they can be both good as well as bad depending on the scenario). Although they can be tricksters, occasionally mean spirited and most often to be pranksters, they are tied to a Shinto deity and there are also tales of them helping people like Inari Ōkami and its fox spirits help the blacksmith Munechika forge the blade Kogitsune-maru.
Part 2 please
I have some interesting facts about Medusa that may interest people!
Fact 1: She was not always a gorgon. She was in fact a normal human lady who was very, very beautiful.
Fact 2: Medusa had so many guys who had fell in love for her with her beauty. However, she refused their
love for her as Medusa had taken a vow to be a Priestess to Athena and Medusa still has her V-Card to
boot.
Fact 3: Medusa only became a gorgon was because of Poseidon & Athena. There are a few versions of
this part of the story. One being that, one day Medusa was on her way to the temple of Athena when a
certain god of the sea had pop his head out the water and saw her. Poseidon fell for her beauty and was
planning to "bed her" but she refused him like all the other guys. Poseidon was not happy about that, so
he "forced himself" on the poor Medusa.
As Medusa had try to escape. Athena saw Medusa and Poseidon together and instead of hearing both
sides of the story, Athena placed a curse on Medusa turning her into a Gorgon. Athena did not do any
-thing to Poseidon because not only he was one of the three strongest Greek gods, he was the brother
to the king of the gods so there was not much she can do about that.
Yes, she also has a tragic origin story that makes me feel sorry for her.
Krasue the floating head should be one here, it's a yokai that takes the form of a floating head and organs. It travels around and looks for pregnant women, when it finds one, it uses its long tongue to eat the fetus
I don't understand why banshee is always bad because she is actually not, yes she warns of imminent death but it's not malicious
I remember when we had to dress up and act like creatures from Caribbean folklore and one of them was the Soucouyant
No Penanggal? That ghost is damn scary
Not gonna lie, this list was pretty interesting. No pun intended 😄
13:33 Is that a Todd Haberkorn I see?
I want whatever ancient Greeks were on..
This liberty guy just got a roll on bold and beautiful
Why in the world did we get a jurassic park clip for harpies lol
Lol there's so many instances in modern pop culture. Harpies remind me of Yu-Gi-Oh , the furies made an appearance in a DC comic story but with female heroes turning into them & enforcing Darkseid's rule. Kuchisake-Onna is very similar to Mileena from Mortal Kombat. Banshee is an Irish X Men character who has sonic screaming powers & Sindel from Mortal Kombat has those powers herself. Sometimes they show a banshee spirit possessing her prior to a fighting. I appreciate the folklore going into these characters.
Hi, Todd Haberkorn!
I love her VOICE!!
Can you please do male creatures next?
Aswang is a general term for monsters which can be either male or female. The one you had in your mind is called "manananggal" which is a female aswang that can detach her upper body from her lower body. She flies while her intestines are dangling out. She eats babies, either born or unborn. She also eats internal organs.
My lazy ass is going to use mare as my excuse when I’m late for workkkkkkk 😂
“sorry boss a mare rode me that’s why I was so exhausted and couldn’t show up faster”
