OMGOSH IM FIRST😁😁
"The Act of Killing" for me! super creepy!!
no. 9 "cropsey"
You should do top 20 serial killer documentaires
Definitely Cropsey
Abducted in Plain Sight pissed me off. Those people infuriated me to no end!!!
I wasn't surprised it made #1. Those parents should be in jail.
That guy really was charismatic apparently, or that married couple had serious sexual hangups to work out
I think everyone should watch it as a commentary on what not to do!
the part where her daughter had been missing for several days and the mom was like, "we didn't call the police because we didn't want to bother anyone." I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
I still can't believe the parents allowed this man to seduce BOTH of them AND kidnap their daughter TWICE!!!! Like... how does that even happen?!
My brother is 34, when he was in 4th grade his class took a field trip to the golden gate bridge. A woman jumped right in front of the group of kids. My brother still remembers this clear as day. Crazy.
What!!!! I bet he won't be going back to San Francisco anymore; I know I wouldn't. 😵
I saw the bridge what a horrible documentary of people jumping.
Yikes! Did he ever receive any counseling?
That’s crazy!
Of course he would still remember. He was small innocent child the witnessed someone who so broken and so defeated that they thought their only solution who to take their own life. I am so sorry he had to witness that.
Has anyone noticed that the 'if you like the music playing...' section always has bloody awful music playing?
WatchMojo made a record label and wants to push it onto us, but it will never become a thing. Like, they need to stop.
I've never once liked what I was hearing.
@@fawkyear7509 me too😔🥺
It's all a copy of a copy of a copy of good music, and you know how sometimes when you make a copy of a copy how it doesn't turn out so good?.......
Dude! I'm glad someone provided some insight into why they have music. That's wild.
10. The impostor
9. Cropsey
8. The Bridge
7. Holy Hell
6. The Family I Had
5. Titicut Follies
4. Jesus Camp
3. Dear Zachary : A Letter To A Son About His Father
2. The Act Of Killing
1. Abducted In Plain Sight
Thank you!
Dear Zachary really just broke me, it's a story that leaves you feeling hopeless
I totally agree, especially how the woman whom they knew was the killer continued to see their grandson and they had to play nice with her. I am forever heartbroken at what the parents went through.
I saw that years ago and still haven't recovered. 💔
Same, I haven’t been able to watch another documentary since
I haven’t seen it, but I read about it and I saw a picture of the little boy. It broke me. I won’t watch that documentary because I know I’ll be a mess for the next few months.
Same. I was so angry and couldn't stop crying. I was ready to go war with Canada.
The documentary I found the most disturbing was "Deliver Us From Evil", a 2006 movie about priests abusing children, getting transferred and then abusing children again, and again, and again... What sets it apart is that it actually interviews the perpetrator, not just the victims.
MrTherighteousdude omg same
You should view The Keepers on Netflix if you want to see something really disturbing, they moved that priest around so many times, that sick bastard should've been sent up the river!
Pakistan's hidden shame, was another doc I found as unsettling.
ABSOLUTELY! A documentary in which the depth of pain and lack of remorse is gut-wrenching enough, then you watch the special features/ commentary and discover just how blissfully detached he is. All the while, we know, are being shown directly that he is not alone, but a pawn among thousands, inside one of the largest controlling organizations on the planet.
That film is creepy in every sense of the meaning.
Zeus Lee like Spotlight
Saw Jesus Camp about 10 years ago, still irritates me that people like that exist.
she will be punished in the afterlife she is gonna end up going to hell in the end anyways.
*SCIENTOLOGIST:* She needs to believe in her true god and savior, the Lord Tom Cruise!
Nothing wrong with it
this is why i think religion is a joke
ppl take it too serious
N7 Jaeger religion isn’t a joke just because a few people do stuff doesn’t mean you have to discredit all of religion Jesus you people will take anything and automatically try to use it against religion just because you don’t believe
I feel like one of the Jonestown documentaries should’ve been on here. They’re all so unsettling.
Especially when they play the real recording of the mass suicide.
agree
Stefan yes the recordings are horrible they did not know how painful the poison was, they dosed the kids first and heard them screaming and crying in pain. Sooo f'ing gross and sad
Jonestown: Lost Paradise is the scariest by far... I had nightmares with Jim Jones Voice
"Raven" is an outstanding book on the Jim Jones cult
I watched Dear Zachary when I was traveling alone for work and I was just broken hearted afterwards and couldn’t shake that immense feeling of sadness for days afterwards- it’s a difficult watch, but amazingly well done.
Completely agree, it’s one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen but I’m not sure if I could watch it again.
it is one of the best documentaries, it is so gut wrenching and I completely understand the feeling you’re describing!
I almost went to that Jesus Camp when I was a kid, but when my folks found out how messed up that place was, they backed out!
Glad to hear that
You dodged a bullet
I went to regular church camp as a kid, and it is NOTHING like Jesus Camp, it's just like regular camp with a little Church stuff thrown in, church camp is cheaper, to go to than regular camp, so tons of kids in the midwest go to church camp, so I watched that documentary thinking it would be cute. Probably your parents were like me and thought it would just be normal church camp!
I think "Catching the Friedman's" deserve a spot or even a honourable mention
That one pissed me off SO BAD, the way those boys treated their mother was SICKENING!!
*Capturing The Friedmans
That was a great one. Never a dull moment
It's on different watch mojo countdown
It was deeply disturbing - the unresolved issues around who was guilty, what had actually happened, even who the real victims were... The story was SO complicated
Never had a documentary made me feel the saddest I've ever felt in my entire life after only 15 minutes into it. And than half an hour into the documentary I thought to myself, "yeah no I'm even more sadder now". Every 15 minutes of watching Dear Zachery kept breaking my record of being the saddest I've ever felt in my life and it was over 2 hours long, when it ended my entire face looked like fingers when they stay in water for too long.
No exaggeration, I think I bawled through 90% of the movie. I was *wrecked* by the end.
@@MikeP2055 The crazy part is that it wasn't a movie it actually happened to those old couple : (
I knew what the documentary was about and how it ultimately ended, but I didn’t realize until I watched it for myself that the initial premise was different; that it was supposed to be a documentary FOR Zachary, not ABOUT him. My heart broke for the parents/grandparents. To have an only child and then an only grandson, and they’re both taken far too soon by the same person. Just gut wrenching.
The one that made me like that was the Murder of Gabriel Fernandez on Netflix. I sobbed the whole way through. Utterly revolting
I remember watching abducted in plain sight I just kept thinking on how it was the parents fault
It infuriated me, those people are idiots for ever even allowing a grown man around their daughter
@@joshgary5067 Well, I mean the guy was getting handjobs for the dad and plowing the wife, too. How two people so utterly inept managed to meet and have children to neglect and put in harms way confuses me.
Yeah. The mom just seemed more jealous of the guy being more interested in the daughter than her. So bizarre.
At least the mom from Archer was a cartoon
Well guy was master manipulater. He knew who to target to get what he wanted from them
I appreciate so much to Watchmojo to mention The Act of Killing. I'm Indonesian and I know the horrors. The genocide & torture are way worse than Cambodia Red Khmer. the most evil leader in southeast asia is Soeharto, not Pol Pot. many people don't know this cuz our governments don't want to admit it to this day, despite IPT (International People Tribunal) officially accused Indonesia guilty for humanity since 2015. please support us to bring back justice
:(
Dude, man! I'm sorry! That's really messed up!
It's really one of the best made documentaries because everything is real. There's no acting in any way. This story is very important to be told.
Dear Zachary is the best documentary I've ever seen. Absolutely heartbreaking, but a beautiful and extremely well-made film. If you only watch one of these, definitely make it that one.
I'm amazed they didn't include Capturing The Friedmans, a documentary about predators who abused numerous children at a summer computer camp they ran. I think the arrest still holds the record for most molestation charges at one time. Beyond creepy and disturbing. I felt nauseous after seeing it and I will never hear the word "leapfrog" without shuddering for the rest of my life.
I hear you and agree - but I think the questions raised about what had actually happened, who was really guilty - heck, even who the real victims might have been - that is what I remember disturbing me most. It's a tough watch.
u think you missed the point of the movie
@@calhall4748 How so? (And how did you think that I think I missed the point?)
'Abducted in Plain Sight,' was CRAZY. It's a good pick for the number 1 spot. I did see most of the others too. I can't help but think how this clip didn't make Dear Zachary seem as good as it really was. The documentary takes a shockingly twisted turn towards the end and is really a good watch, yet sad.
Mommy Dead & Dearest is actually a sad story...Gypsy was abused & robbed of her childhood & her life by her mother.
I don't blame Gypsy for what she did to escape her mother! Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard didn't really treat her like a real parent would and should treat a child. Gypsy was just a prop for Dee Dee's con artistry, and that had to be a living hell for her...
We live about 30 minutes away from where they lived when this all went down. They thought she had been kidnapped at first and there was just pure chaos of people , cops and so on trying to find her
they need to let her out of prison, it doesn't matter how she did it or whether she enjoyed it or not, the poor girl was driven mad by her mother and she had no choice, how else was she going to get away from that woman ? No one was helping her!! This is an injustice!
@@gigichanel1745 I live in North Louisiana and even way up here you will bump into people who knew them down there in the south part of the state and tell stories about them. They have become legendary in this state.
"There's Something Wrong with Aunt Diane" was the most disturbing documentay I have ever seen. It makes me so sad just thinking about it. And angry.
It infuriated me and disturbed me because I was left none the wiser whatsoever about what actually happened!
The level of denial in her family was staggering--her husband especially.
Totally agree! That should have been in the countdown if not number 1!
What’s it about?
@@thestrugglesoflife5516 she was driving drunk
#3 Dear Zachary is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. I literally couldn't look away because of how intensely emotional it was. I definitely recommend it.
My mom actually had a conversation with Shirley turner the day before she killed herself and Zachary. It was in Walmart Mcdonalds, she noticed Zachary and struck up a conversation with her because my little brother was around the same age as him and they ended up talking for the better part of an hour about being parents and whatnot. Mom was absolutely destroyed the next day when she heard what had happened and even today she still sheds a tear when his name is brought up. It was truly tragic what had happened to that poor baby :(
Capturing the Friedmans. Can't believe this wasn't even an honorable mention.
I think that was on different watch mojo countdown. I've seen on there
yeah - me too, mate. I was waiting for it to come up. That doco disturbed the heck out of me.
Thought the same!
YES!! That movie still disturbs me to this day!!
I don't think I've liked a single song that WatchMojo has featured. Anyone else or are my ears broken again?
there were a couple I was surprised I enjoyed enough.
There's very few
I don't think there's ever any variety to the types of music they feature. What happened to catchy pop, or R&B, or anything like that? It's almost always something rock-related. Not everything has to be about rock, you guys!
As an atheist I'm curious on how Christian camps get shut down constantly but cults seem legally above reproach?
Scientology anyone? No....? Okay then
@@berlynwall1956 Going Clear was totally insane.
@lana lake Jeff's is dead thank god
@lana lake Yeah but Warren Jeffs 'married' twelve year old girls. Ive heard of Blackmore not sure if he was a pedophile (sorry 'paedophile') but it seems a lot of cult leaders are sexual deviants.
Blackmore is indeed a pedphile
Dear Zachary still messes me up, it was so grappling I went through a grieving process
#1 isnt creepy, is just plain infuriating, watched the first half hour and couldn't continue due to the sheer stupidity of everyone involved, it's just maddening.
And you missed "Capturing the Friedmans" on the list, THAT'S a creepy documentary
I was looking for someone who'd mention "Capturing the Friedmans" on here - that movie stuck with me for a LOOONG time. I was quite surprised it wasn't on this list. To this day, I am not sure how I feel about what I saw - I ended it unsure of the truth and uncertain of who the real victims were.
@@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494 It really is an amazing doc
@@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494 The father of the family absolutely had illegal items in his possession! As far as his son, who was charged with him, I still don't know if he was guilty of the things he was accused of...
Whats capturing the friedmans about???
@@ciaranward3559 Its about a father and son that allegedly abused kids, but the doc doesn't make it very clear if they are completely guilty or not, because of how weird their relationship is and a lack of evidence, its really creepy
Having lived through the same thing, Jesus Camp is hands down the most terrifying movie I've ever seen.
What's so scary about a camp teaching kids about jesus
After I saw 'Jesus Camp' I became convinced for awhile that the greatest threat to Western civilization was a 12 year old boy.

Yup!
"Just Melvin, Just Evil" is just so tragic and disturbing...😔
Just Melvin, Just Evil is a really good documentary I saw on youtube. It's not like a mainstream documentary that's on Netflix or anything like that and I'm not sure how I found it in the first place, but it tells the story of a man who molested and abused I think 2 or 3 generations of his family. I haven't seen it in a while so I'm sure I'm getting details wrong, but from what I remember, he was a serial abuser and a rumored murderer but he denied it all until the day he died. The narrator (I think it was his grandson?) even interviewed him. After hearing the stories of all his victims, it's very strange to hear him get defensive and try to deny his abuse. It's super heavy and has graphic descriptions of molestation and abuse, but if you can stomach it, it's an interesting look into the mindset of people who have been abused by family members and how they view their abusers.
jerk face hands down one of the most disturbing documentaries. To see the impact Melvin has on all his victims...so sad.
Dear Zachary - I've watched most of these documentaries and some others have mentioned, but Zachary leaves you with something that's not easy to shake off.
Years later and I'm still brought to tears thinking about some of the scenes in this documentary. Simply heartbreaking.
Seems depressing
Dear Zachary- "This film was no longer a letter to you, it was a letter to someone else"
Me: *INSTANT TEARS!*
Ugh, just hearing that line still hits me in the gut. Amazing documentary. 💔
London Hansen it wrecked me.
Just seeing the clips from it brought a tear to my eye;
Honestly one of the best documentaries ever made
Dear Zachary broke my heart so much. Its definitely worth a watch if you are a true crime junky or just a documentary fan.
Dear Watchmojo,
We never like what we're hearing.
I hope your talking about how obnoxious this woman is when narrorating
Thank you

Kerra Johnson Right?! It’s not ever even just bland, it always sounds intentionally grating.
Kerra Johnson I thought he was talking about the music. You get a little bit of it and she says if you like the music click here for a longer version.
My mum made me watch Dear Zachary when I was twelve because she “thought it looked interesting” and I cannot tell you how much it traumatised me.
'Dear Zachary' was the saddest documentary, and 'Mommy Dead and Dearest' should have been the creepiest one.
That’s a film isn’t it ???
@@joecarmody5544 aren't you thinking about Mommie Dearest about Joan Crawford? These are two completely different things
@@joecarmody5544
'Mommie Dearest' is the movie based on a book written by Christina Crawford, who is the adopted daughter of the actress Joan Crawford. The book and movie are about Christina's claims of child abuse she suffered from Joan Crawford.
'Mommy Dead and Dearest' is a documentary about a woman named Gypsy Blancharde, who for years was forced by her mother to fake that she was a crippled child with a whole bunch of non existent medical ailments, she underwent a bunch of unnecessary surgeries, she was forced to take loads of medication for conditions she never even had in the first place- and then her mother winds up being murdered.
Mommy Dead and Dearest has got to be one of THE craziest documentaries I've ever seen in my life!
I highly recommend everybody to go watch it if you haven't seen it yet.
“Dear Zachary” was so heartbreaking, but I don’t think it should be on a list of creepy documentaries.
Never heard of Mommy Dead & Dearest but if it's creepier than the sickos in Abducted in plain sight I'm not sure I'd wana see it
"If you like what you're hearing..."
*ears still bleeding*
"HUH??"
"Jesus Camp" is absolutely the most disturbing movie I think I have ever seen. Not only is it gut wrenching & rage inducing, but diabolically true! I'm not against religion. It most certainly has it's place, but what they do to these kids is criminal. I applaud the movie production for just allowing everything to happen on the screen & let you decide the message.
Documentaries like Jesus Camp make me stay away from religion, not to mention the horrific brainwashing of a child is even more twisted
@Father Ted religion is definitely a problem.
Nestle bottle water in Jesus camp.discuss it
I was amazed/shocked/upset about this documentary. I went went to Christian camps growing up and they were nothing like this. Yes we had chapel service, but they were not like what was portrayed in this documentary. I didn't even get all the way through it.
All religion are just cults & full of pedophiles I won't let my kid near one 😂
Abducted in plain sight was one of the most disgusting things I had watched. Hearing him talk, and the little girl re tell her story in a VERY detailed description made me angry, sad, and disgusted
“Mommy Dead and Dearest” gets even creepier when you’ve been to Halloween parties with Nick Godejohn because his mother Stephanie and my mother have been friends since they were teenagers.
shit STILL blows my mind & I am completely unsettled by it.
HOLY SHIT! I bet you have some interesting stories to tell! That whole situation has both disturbed and fascinated me since it first broke.
what was he like back then?
I don’t know if I’d call it creepy, but “Ghosts Of Rwanda” is very disturbing. It details the genocide that took place in Rwanda during 1994. It has interviews with people from both sides (the Hutu killers and the Tutsi victims) that get pretty intense, along with “on the ground” footage taken during the 100 day genocide. They killed at a faster rate than the Nazis did during genocide in WWII. Over 800,000 were killed in 100 days, with the killers using mainly machetes. It’s a great documentary, but you need to be prepared for some hard to hear stories and even harder to watch footage.
I remember reading a book entitled 'Machete Season' addressing the very same topic. A British journalist travels to Rwanda a few years after the genocide to collect testimonies of some of the killers. He was trying to understand the psychology behind such horrific acts. He was successful in accumulating some first-hand persons' narrative from a variety of reformed natives. One day while he was driving about on an excursion in a rustic, desolate part of the country, he took a wrong turn and ended up in a region where the terrain was overrun with dense rows of bamboo leaves which soared and leaned over to hug the car on both sides. From seemingly out of nowhere sprung a ragtag militia, with wild-eyed, cruel expressions, armed with machetes, walking menacingly towards the car. They got close enough so that they pounded the hood with their cutlasses. The driver put the car in reverse and sped off in abject horror. He later found out that that militia were resistant Hutus who had taken refuge in that area after their defeat. However, they were laying in wait, still biding their time for the right moment to reconvene and continue what they had started.

As a child in the 1980’s, documentaries about Lizzie Borden and Jack the Ripper scared me. I think a lot of episodes of PBS’s American Experience are very creepy as well. There was an episode about the Donner Party, pioneers who were stranded by a winter avalanche and resorted to cannibalism, with creepy violin music that was very very unsettling.
That one...I had no idea how many were in the party...and of all ages...so gut wrenching. If anyone merely suggests joking about the Donner Party, I cut them off and bring them down with detailed facts.

Dear Zachary is so heartbreaking. I hope that judge rots in hell. The fact that she, the true villain of this story, didn't receive ANY punishment for her negligence is mind-blowing.

“Somethings wrong with aunt Diane” still haunts me
@Ujuani Abelsen it’s about the fatal accident that Diane Schuler got in that killed her, her daughter, and her two nieces.
@Ujuani Abelsen it’s one of my all time favorite documentaries. U HAVE to watch it. And come back and comment what u think! It’s on HBO max
It's currently on youtube too. It's not creepy, but very disturbing because Diane sped the wrong way on a freeway with her 2 kids and 3 nieces in her van. Everyone in the van died except her son, as well as 3 people in a car she struck. Toxicology reports showed that she was driving drunk and had also smoked weed. However, her family is in total denial about her culpability, and has spent thousands of dollars trying to prove otherwise. It's a well-done haunting documentary.
Ah, I watched The Bridge documentary. I watched it to help me come to terms with taking my own life shortly thereafter. Obviously that hasn't come to be.
me too
The line the guy says about how after he jumped his biggest problem was now having jumped off the bridge, that stuck with me.
Dear Zachary is one of the most effed up things I’ve ever seen. Abducted in Plain Sight is also completely bonkers.
I've seen some of these documentaries but I wish they'd also include where to watch all of them ...
If only there was a search engine we could use to find something on the internet
Cropsey, aunt Dianne, Earthlings, and Dear Zachary r free on you tube. They didn't mention Earthlings but it's the most disturbing thing I've ever seen (the part I could actually watch) so I added it.
Many of these are on a free app called Tubi
"The Family I Had" pissed me off. What happened to that family was so tragic, but also avoidable, in my opinion. The mom had the son evaluated more than once before he killed his sister but refused to keep him committed as long as was suggested. His grandmother was a piece of work, too, most likely a murderer herself. I'm not saying either of them are completely to blame. The son obviously is to blame. But his mom didn't get him the help he so clearly needed.
she finally dipped on him. She has no contact at all. Said she never will
"There's something wrong with aunt Diane". Unsettling AF from the beginning to the end :/ ;(
That just ended up pissing me off. Especially watching the husband and the way he treated his surviving son. That last bit with them where the son reaches up to hold his hand and he holds it for like two or three steps and then pulls his hand away. Or how he just started suing people (including family) because he couldn't accept his wife was drunk af and drove down the wrong side of the road because of it.
I was just about to mention this one too.
This doc made me both sad and mad , so creepy.
@@DrForrester87 Agreed. It was an interesting documentary, but mainly because of how it showed the unwillingness of the women's family to accept she was to blame for the accident.
I just love your voice!!! Please dont ever leave!!!
I'm definitely watching some of these !
Dear Zachary had me crying for a soild hour after watching it. 10/10 amazing documentary but definietly not for the faint of heart
These all look so good! Are they all available on CZcams?
"Dear Zachary" is the most heartbreaking documentary I've ever seen.
What about Child of Rage?
I've seen it and is so incredible, such abuse endured by a tiny creature, then transfers into her mind and she doesn't even understand why or the implications of her behavior, how it was tearing up her parents and her brother. I was happy towards the end.
Honorable Mention at least
I'm surprised that you didn't mention how in abducted in plain sight the guy actually seduced the parents and got intimate with both of them individually.... like litterally individually. I was the most confused and freaked out hearing about the dad situation. TMI!!!
Thats a really great list. I've seen almost all of them. I would just include Capturing the Friedman's to make it superb!
Having watched Dear Zachary as a young mom, it absolutely killed me. It was a wonderful documentary, but it’s too sad for me to ever watch again.
Dear Zachary wrecked my soul!
The Bridge is hard to watch but hard to look away at the same time.
Yooooooo!!! Cropsey!! That was such a goooood documentary. Fascinating and chilling. Also check out Killer Legends by the same filmmaker.
Good clip WatchMojo. One of your better ones for sure.
Do top 20 Disney villains of all time
Louis Theroux's Jimmy Savile documentary was horrifying.
I have to see that.
I was going to say this two
dear zachery is the most heart wrenching thing i have ever seen.
Dear Zachary....one of the saddest documentaries I’ve ever seen...but worth watching.
Dear Zachary is both the best and worst documentary I have ever seen and will forever be etched in my psyche
Everytime I watch Dear Zachery it breaks my heart as if I am seeing for the first time. Abducted in Plain Sight I was speechless it after watching it
I’m always looking for new documentary’s to watch. I was sooo excited to see this video in order to find something new to watch. I’ve seen them all. 😩 I need to get out more. Oh, hold on, I can’t.
I found the film "Dear Zachary..." on a list of top "soul-crushing" movies. It belongs on that list.
