    The “eye on the next position” is something you mentioned before. It has helped me immensely. I truly appreciate your videos. Especially how you break them down afterwards. The Wayne Gretzky reference is also appreciated as well. Thanks.

    Wow Uncle Benny Bob,
    I think I might to actually get a handle on this one?
    It is a lot like I have taught myself parts of "Malagueña"
    Well about half of the notes & positions you are playing here; But similar.
    Cool cool I will probably try to adapt parts of this lesson; to old "Malagueña". Thanks Man You are appreciated.

    First thing that popped into my mind when the video started was Eugene's Trick Bag. Learned it years ago, but still can't get it up to speed. The section you played wasn't bad, but that bit that comes after it is a beast. Even watching where the next position is, I land in the wrong place.

  • @donald-parker
    @donald-parker Před 8 měsíci +1

    When I learned to play lead, back before internet, CZcams, etc, my only resource was listening to records. I quickly picked up on the idea of pentatonic scales (I had no idea they were called that until many years later - I just thought of the patterns as "the notes that sound good"). But I had no concept of the "boxes" (something else I learned many years later). Somehow I got it in my head that the "goal" was to find a way to play notes that were always 2 frets apart, and in order to achieve this, you naturally have to shift positions up and down the neck covering 3 or 4 of what most people learn as "the boxes". It just seemed like the natural way to go for me. While I can think of the boxes today, I still use that early learning to shift up and down the neck and I think it helps me build fluid licks and patterns that don't necessarily lend themselves to the "boxes".

    • @BenEller
      @BenEller  Před 8 měsíci

      Great question! For me, it’s because it’ll keep the downstrokes on the downbeat. 1(down) and(pull) 2(down) and(pull) etc. Keeps the hand in a natural, constant state of motion and rhythm.

    How do you deal with shows on those nights where everything just sucks? - Sound is garbage, sound guy sucks, not feeling ready to play, conditions are not ideal, band mates and you are playing like crap, the weather sucks etc.? How do you get shows to where the sound is killer and your guitar sound is killer? It always seems like it's less powerful playing lyve than in the studio. I've only heard a couple bands with great lyve sound over the years, mainly Queensryche and Dream Theater. Playing these local bars always seems watered down and lame compared to seeing shows like Meshuggah or some such band. I guess it just boils down to how many watts your pushing, guitar rig and sound guy quality? But also how do you keep your shyte together when you feel like shyte?

    • @BenEller
      @BenEller  Před 8 měsíci

      Ah man, it sucks, but I assure you, it happens to ALLLLL OF US!!! Biggest thing to remember is that in 99% of the gigs we play, 1% of the crowd are guitar players that’ll actually notice. And even then, they’re probably 4 beers deep anyway hahaha don’t flinch and nobody will notice anything has gone wrong!
