Everyone sad about non led headlamps...Lasfit makes LED bulbs for the lows and fogs for $150...Makes a world of difference.

I was literally coming to the comments to make this exact statement. It cheapens, and makes vehicles look older than they are to not do that. Not even projector halogens here. SMH.
Yet, the CRV, Tucson, Sportage, or Escape still doesn’t have them standard either. The Tiguan is suppose to get a facelift in 2022, so maybe they’ll fix it.
I've test driven most cars in this segment and the Tiguan had the best infotainment and smoothest ride. For whatever that's worth 🤷♂️
I wish they would offer this with a manual and I'd definitely be driving one. The price is also nearly irresistible. Seen several rival SUVs that offer less for over $30k!
I had a Tiguan in 2014 ... these newer models are BEAUTIFUL and I can’t wait until the day I can have one again. Gotta get that credit up tho!!!

I don't sweat small details when watching car reviews, but omg the headlights and blinkers 😱 the lights on my 1990 Mercedes I had 10 years ago looked better.
the third row is a big plus for those few times you need it. I only wish they would put that in the Audi Q5 as well.

For those looking for a crossover that offers a bit more interior space than typical compact SUVs the Tiguan is an appealing choice. In effect, its a tweener. At 185" in length it's about 5" longer than an average compact SUV (CR-V, Rav4) and 3"-4" less than the shortest midsize crossovers. (e.g. Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, KIA Sorento.) Its most unique feature, of course, is a (now standard) 3rd row of seating. Not surprisingly, it's hardly roomy back there with about 28" of legroom. On the other hand, that's 0.2" more default legroom than a Toyota Highlander. Obviously most suitable for small children but adequate for normal size adults for a local outing.
The EA888 engine 2.0L turbo engine is a lower tuned version of the great turbo engine in the VW GTI and Golf R with 184 HP at 4400 RPM and 221 ft lbs of torque at 1400 RPM. That's less than a RAV4 with 203 HP but that HP isn't available until 6600 RPM. Even more striking is that the Toyota offers only 184 ft lbs of torque and that not until 5000 RPM. All that suggests the Tiguan is considerably peppier in normal driving.
Finally, if the Tiguan's power isn't sufficient, a Stage I ECU tune from APR adds approximately 45-56HP and 59-79 ft-lbs of torque depending on fuel grade used without major impacts of mileage and (contrary to what one might think) without affecting the VW factory warranty. All at a price of $500 and about 30 minutes in the shop. For the record I've had an APR Stage 1 tune on two GTI's. The performance gain is significant (to say the least) and would likely be more manageable in a vehicle with VW 4Motion AWD. And considering that the EA888 engine in the Golf R is rated at near and over 300 HP from the factory, concern about durability should be minimal.
All in all, the Tiguan deserves a closer look than it usually gets.
You need to check into the specs of the EA888 2l in the 2018 to 2021 Tiguan. It's not just de-tuned.

This is not the same EA888 2.0L engine that's in the Atlas or the GTI. The redesign seems to be focused solely on increasing fuel mileage to satisfy their CAFE numbers. The Atlas gets to good version and the Tiguan gets the "Detuned" item. Look at what comes in the Euro Tiguan.

It has. I have Jetta 1.4 Tsi put 93k trouble free, Alhamdulillah.
I have the pure white 2021 SE-R line. My interior is also the leather light grey interior, but it looks like white leather. I’m absolutely in love with my Tiguan. I bought a brand new 2014 30th edition GLI Jetta back in 2014, I only put 36,000 miles on my Jetta and left it in PERFECT condition. I do miss my Jetta, but I love my Tiguan so much more. It’s a great compact suv, only thing I will complain about is the uncomfortable seats, and it doesn’t get good gas mileage like my Jetta did. If you can afford to put after market leather I highly recommended. The seats are AWFUL. My Jetta had very high dollar seats that were black leather with red trim, it was gorgeous. The Tiguan seats are so stiff, they have no support, I notice if I drive my Tiguan for over an hour, my butt will go numb, and my Jetta never did that. The AC is also not near as good as my Jetta’s ac was, maybe it’s because it’s harder for a bigger vehicle to cool off? I also do not like the fact how I cannot adjust my storage console like I was able to in my Jetta. Now the technology in this car is awesome, I love the glass screen, the wireless phone charger is cool, the blind spot monitors and parking assist is nice since I’m not a good driver. I love the apple CarPlay, and the panoramic sunroof. I would rate this car a 8.5 out of 10.
It’s interesting you mentioned the stiff seats. I just bought a Mazda CX-5 and love almost everything about it but the seats are so stiff and uncomfortable to me. It made me realize I took my comfy Honda CR-V seats for granted 😅 Now I’be been curious to see if I made the right decision with my Mazda which is why I looked at this video, but I can see from your post that the Tiguan has a similar issue. The Volkswagen Tiguan was my other choice car :) It looks awesome 😀 Ah well, at least we have beautiful cars with great features to make up for the stiff seats lol
@@crystala7x182 congrats on your new car as well! 😊 I’m glad I got the Tiguan, but the seats are god awful compared to my Jetta. Hopefully by the next few months I’ll purchase different seats for my Tiguan so it will be a lot more comfortable especially because I love to travel!

I was looking at getting rid of my 2018 Volvo V60CC (250hp/260torque, approx.), but this car is underpowered in comparision despite also using a turbo 4.
It’s 2021 and any vehicle over $25k should have led headlights/foglights!!! Especially on a top trim level like this vehicle!😳🤦🏻

I like it, but very disappointed by the halogen and incandescent lights. If the Sköda and Seat derivatives of this can have full LED, why can’t we, at least in the top trim? My son has a two year old Cupra Ateca, and it is sublime in every way. I love VW platform sharing with Seat and Sköda-they allow those companies a lot of freedom to further develop the platform, then incorporate those improvements to their own products. It’s platform sharing that benefits all of the partners. VW is making real moves in development, and they need to either get over the dieselgate grudge they still hold (I never faulted VW for dieselgate, only their poor reliability), or GTFO our market. Please excuse profane abbreviation. VW should be commended for their advances but shamed for shortfalls in available options offered, especially when you consider all the options that non US VW customers are offered. Thanks so much for another great review. You guys are doing great.
This North American version of the VW Tiguan has long wheel base, is cheaper to buy, has cheaper materials, uses conventional automatic transmission, and built in Mexico. Otoh, the rest of the Western developed countries (outside of US and Canada) has the European version which has a short wheel base, is more expensive to buy, has more premium materials, uses DSG dual-clutch transmission, and built in Germany. VW in North American market is a mass market brand belonging to the same category as the Japanese and Korean mass market brands.

No, the engine is the same de-tuned CAFE unit they've used since 2018. I hear They're going to be putting it in more models in NA.
Look at the inside of the gas door...87 or 91 octane. There is a reason
it states that...the EA888 Gen 3 engine actually runs cleaner and
better on the higher octane. The dealers tell prospective buyers that
is runs on 87...BUT...after 50K miles, the valves need to be
cleaned...but run higher octane and the valves are clean at 50K
miles...fortunately we have 93 octane in the Mid-Atlantic states. Also,
the vehicle DOES have plenty of pick up. Put it in "SPORT" mode and
slap it into DSG manual mode...you WILL have plenty of acceleration for a
car in this weight class. One other IMPORTANT point: The engine revs
high and uses very thin 0w20 synthetic oil...the oil evaporates (burns)
quickly. Check the oil every 2500 - 3000 miles...most likely you will
need to add some. EA888 engines run best with dip stick showing full.
BOTTOM LINE: VWs with the EA888 Gen 3 engine needs more attention than
other cars...but if you run 91 octane and keep the oil topped off, the
EA888 engine will last a long time.

@@raizt1596 If you do research across the Internet you will find multiple sources that discuss using premium for EA888 Gen 3 engines. My local source is Mr. Pat Bisset, owner of S2 Dynamics in Rockville, MD. Pat only works on German cars and knows VW and AUDI inside and out. My other local source was the lead Mechanic at Ouirsman VW in Rockville, MD. He too told me that the engine runs better and is designed for "91 Octane, hence why it's on the gas cap door." Keeping up with regular service and preventative maintenance is the best way to keep your Mk7 GTI running strong for many thousands of miles. Here are some of the basics:
Oil service with an approved synthetic oil and high-quality oil filter every 5,000 miles.
Check the engine air filter every 12k miles / annually, replace as needed.
Check spark plugs at 40,000 miles, then every 20,000 until replaced, replace as needed.
Always let the oil temperature warm to 180 Fahrenheit before driving at full throttle or driving over 4,000 rpm.
Perform an intake valve cleaning every 60,000-80,000 miles, or as needed.
Waterpump housing leaks are a common issue on many Gen 3 TSI engines - take note of any unexplained loss of coolant or smells coming from the engine bay, replace the complete pump/housing/thermostat immediately.
Never drive the car with a flashing check engine light. Immediately stop the car and shut off the engine. If the light flashes on restart or runs rough, tow the vehicle home or to a shop where it can be diagnosed and repaired
@@raizt1596 One other item: The 2021 Jetta GLI has the EA888 Gen 3 engine and to get the 228 HP you have to run Premium (per VW). From the VW marketing page: "With a 228-hp 2.0L TSI® turbocharged engine (achieved with premium fuel), the Jetta GLI delivers a drive so exhilarating, it will seem way too short, no matter how long of a ride it is." @@raizt1596 No other mods to suggest. You have to be careful with mods as they can invalidate the new car warranty. I will tell you this: last month I drove from Germantown MD to Newburyport MA and got 36.6 MPG with 93 octane. My average speed was 65. Returning home my son drove and because he drove much faster we only got 26 MPG, so the sweet spot appears to be 65 mph, not...well faster than 65. 😀

The halogen headlights and incandescent subsidiary lights seem really outdated on this otherwise modern-looking exterior.
I know Volkswagen was trying to keep the price point low and create that differential between this line and their other lines, but updating to LEDs cannot cost Volkswagen that much, and would result in a more updated exterior to "keep with the times."
The sad thing is that they can't even say, "It is to keep the price down." All of the competition has STANDARD led headlights yet Volkswagen can't seem to put them on and still have a low price. Vw has always had problems with "keeping with the times" as well. just take a look at their interiors. The nicest interior is on the Arteon. And even then I still think the Jetta looks the best. Their interiors do NOT look like 40-50k car interiors. They always seem to get one-upped every time they try to design cause their 2020 interior refresh is from 5 years ago.
We use to have a Tiguan the only complaint I had is they want you to use the premium gas. My wife totaled the car in a accident but it was built really well and she walked away without a scratch.
87 octane is recommended in my 2021 user manual. If you do performance tuning, the higher octanes are recommended.
If you are looking at a family suv, or a crossover, don't even get close to vw. Their interiors don't age well at all and they cheap out on stuff. For them to have halogen headlights on a 2021 model is a big disappointment! that just shows how they are behind. Yah they have the gauge cluster but even that is starting to look kinda old. go for a Toyota Highlander or a Mazda CX-9. At least they actually don't cheap out and give you HALOGENS on a 30k car. Also Toyota puts LED's on the BASE MODEL corolla which is 18k....think about that.
I just bought that exact vehicle in and out and not quite been able to enjoy it as we bought it in winter. Looks nice but the go kart engine is less to be desired and that engine kill function needs to go away.

Why in the world would anyone buy a Volkswagen product when you can buy Toyota products which will outlast any Volkswagen. I know because I've owned owned both.
The third row is completely unusable. I sat in it at the auto show and the seats didn't have enough room to even lock in place.
That is a problem. If you have small children and need the seating then it works, otherwise you're carrying around 150 lbs of useless hardware at the cost of a lot of space. I was looking at removing mine and fabricating a new floor panel. Too much trouble to change out everything.
Generally I'm totally disgusted with VW as they don't import their iconic vans or the their pickup trucks, so they aren't in the radar for me at all, and I'm German.

My rear speakers and sub, factory radio, AC, electronic adjustable seats, compass, seat belt sensor, and numerous other things all failed at one point or another on my last car. Mostly wiring issues.
