I test drove the CRV and the RAV4. Tiguan definitely has a better smoother ride and quieter cabin than both. I ended up getting a 2019 Tiguan which comes with the long warranty, the 2020 doesn’t.

In the cargo area VW gives you a light, a 12 volt power source and a little fold out hook great for holding your grocery bags. And that model has a cargo cover that’s stored under the floor and removable to install to cover your cargo.

I had a Honda CRV 5 speed auto diesel for 5 years and it was a brilliant car and other than normal servicing it never went wrong, it had 115,000 miles on it and still drove like new. I have just bought a 190bhp Tiguan diesel auto with a 7 speed DSG gearbox and it is far quicker than the Honda, but I don't get the feel of the quality that the Honda had and wonder if it will still be as good after 100,000 miles.

I traded a KIA Soul which was a decent run about for a 2020 VW Tiguan. The difference was drastic. Having a vehicle that doesn’t whine or doesn’t feel unsafe at speeds of 45 was refreshing. The handling on road trips from Pensacola Fl to San Diego Ca were smooth and comfortable. Winter driving from Seattle to eastern Pennsylvania in snow and ice across I-80 felt confident and sure footed the entire time even when “driving by braille” when the snow was falling heavier and faster than it could be cleared (just to get to a safe sit-out-the-weather spot). For what my Tiguan’s price I’m impressed with the handling and versatility.
I know that I do not have a European performance tourer. I do have braking that has proven more that adequate when in a variety of near hard braking events. Out of conditioning as a commercial driver I still avoid passing unless it can be done with economy in mind, partly due to having an insurance linked driving recorder, how I drive the acceleration is again adequate for my needs. As far as reliability my Tiguan has not given me one problem during my road trips in the lower 48 states (there’s 4 that I haven’t explored yet) from +110f desert no pavement driving to really bad idea -25f blizzard driving I haven’t found an environment that “he” couldn’t best while seemingly eager for more.
I have changed my oil and oil filter every 6,500km, breather filter every month and use mid-grade fuel from fuel chains that I trust and I’ve had tires replaced 5 times now. So far no crazy unexpected costs.
I would recommend the Tiguan for people who like to feel safe and also might get a wild hair and take a road trip or just around town where cargo and passengers are handily swallowed up. Those seeking spirited sport driving or the need for flashy will find the Tiguan woefully disappointing though.

My problem with the Tiguan is that they updated the trim levels with 2020 and that removed the sel premium without the r line package. Now you can get the sel for about the same price that the sel premium was hovering around with dealer incentives with less features. I was going to get this but after they did that and lowered the value for the price, it took this car out the running. (correct me if I'm wrong about any of this, I just noticed that when I went to look at the 2020 models on the VW website)

Lucien L wrong wrong wrong. You must be 16 years old. What kind of light do you thing vehicles have used for the last 30 years? LED is really new because most cars haven’t adopted them yet unless they are luxury cars. Halogen where all there was in mainstream cars. The Xenons and others were on higher end but the fact that halogens are still used by most manufacturers in 2020 tells you the lights are proven and worked for longer than you’ve been alive. We have better technology now but it’s taking years for LED to be ubiquitous in automobiles.

I have a 2018 Tiguan and it has never left me on the side of the road. So far one of the best vehicles I have owned.

Gus Morales it’s a nice looking vehicle, but it is painfully slow. I rented a 2020 Tiguan for a work trip here in Canada, and while it was very comfortable and had a nice interior for the class, it had severe trouble merging and passing on one lane highways. Even a new CRV or RAV4 is miles faster than the Tiguan.

@@caidenn_mb owned many different model year VW's and I can say that they are fudging junk when compared to the Japanese cars. Now, I only drive Toyota cars.

ASMR Fox - I am guessing you didn’t google the issues with VW. Not a problem
