Inserting a Godet into a Slash

  • Inserting a Godet into a Slash. When inserting a godet into a slash, you won’t have a seam allowance as such to work with. Therefore, during the process, you’ll make the most of using the cut edges of the slash itself as a makeshift seam allowance. You’ll also notice, as you begin to sew the godet into the slash, this makeshift seam allowance will have a natural graduation.

Your tutorial is fantastic! You show everything, you explain clearly, you enunciate so that I can understand. I especially appreciate that you use a lighter fabric and a contrasting and very visible thread so that I can actually see what you are doing. It annoys me when people use, for example, a black skirt with black thread. I can't see what they're doing and half the time they talk so fast that I don't even know what they're saying and it's totally useless to me. You have hit every single requirement.

When starting at the top of the godet to be stitched, I would also start out with a smaller stitch length for 2.5cm or 5cm (1-2 inches), then set the stitch length back to original settings, and still tie off and put fray check on the threads!

Thank you for this! Your videos are really great, clear and instructive. I've been sewing for almost 40 years, but have never done a godet. I followed your instructions and had some issues (I'm sure it was all me!). I measured just as you showed, but when I lined up the point with the end of my slash, it didn't line up, the godet ended up longer than the end of my fabric. I'm not sure where I went wrong, but I "winged" it and got it to work. ;) Thanks again!

Your video was very helpful indeed, thank you. It was a lucky strike finding it though because when searching 'transforming trousers into skirt with inserts' it did not come up - I was just soo lucky to find this. Thank you! I could not figure out how to get the points to work - I kept getting weird puckering or holes and I gave up the project months ago in frustration. This makes it look quite doable tho!

This is a useful technique for the Tina Givens "Madeline" slip. Adding this comment in the hopes that others attempting this instruction-free garment may find it.

Love your videos! I am learning a lot. In the future could you reference your techniques to a specific pattern in case I want to purchase one and try your technique?
