  • As we wind down from Samhain, I wanted to take some time to talk about using Ancestors in magick. In my Druidry, ancestors hold special place not just at Samhain but all year round.

Lots of great ideas and yes, even dealing with the rough stuff is unfortunaely, very necessary.
I started a small, but quite meaningful ritual a couple of years back after my mom passed. She was passionate about her tea, and whenever I brew a pot I pour her a cup and place it before a picture of her.
I also include fur family as part of my ancestry as well as sometimes thinking of my younger self as an ancestor of my current self.
    Great vid :)

Thank you for posting this. I realize it several years old, but it’s still a nice message. Thank you

Thank you for mentioning the shadow work aspect of dealing with ancestors. This is often overlooked. This Samhain my wife and I helped organize a fundraising feast for our local Pagan congregation, and a table with nice china was set up for our ancestors. During the meal people were free to offer some of their food as a sign of respect.

Your videos are so wonderful, Danni! When I started watching, I thought "I don't want to celebrate the entire patriarchal side of my family," but you made me see there might be a way to work with my matriarchal side to understand and confront the others. Thank you! And I love how honest you are about white privilege.

Thank You for this insight Danni! I have been looking for a direction to go with my Ancestor work. This gives lots of good ideas. I will be visiting the graves of several of my ancestors over the next year as I honor them and their contributions to my psyche. PS I will be carrying Labradorite with me for a season as yesterday [11/07/18] was the new moon and I've started a new phase in my studies, thanks in part to you!

What a wonderful journey! I never get much of a chance to travel to my ancestors graves. I'm sure that will be a unique experience for you! Do report back to us :)

My ancestors altar is up all year round,I feel my dad is with me most of the time when needed.
Our ancestors are why we are here today,we are the results of 100s of love affairs.
I have a great photo of me and my brother's,my mum and dad,my grandparents and great grandparents all in one photo,it is a very special picture indeed.
What I do get slightly annoyed with is those who think all their ancestors are good people but as you said in reality there will be some dodgy people in there,my great great grandfather was a bare Knuckle fighter and bank robber lol.
I did a quick ritual to cover my ancestors of spirit ,place and blood,it takes only 5 minutes and all you need is a t light candle,an incense stick and something to drink,I did it as a I did a full OBOD one and it was that long that you lost what it was about

Sounds like you found a ritual for ancestors that works for you; that's great! Some folks really like the long OBOD ritual, but I can see where it might not work for everyone.

@@DanniEsotericMoment i liked it but i felt that it was taking away from what the ritual was about

What grade is the ancestor ritual. I am Bardic grade. My altar is up all year round. I normally make offerings. It really looks amazing at Samhain. Use tea lights and the Jewish memory candles. Need to make I phone copies of old photos of my other ancestors

I love this video! Especially that you point out your own problem with the topic because the history with the native people. I have some issues to work or connect with my ancestors, because I´m German. I don´t know how much my personal family was involved in the two world wars, especialy the second, becaus that´s something nobody has talked about in my family. It´s a blind spot, even when my grandparents obviously grow up in the second world war, so how probable is it that nobody of their parents was involved? I know my grandgrandfather was a firefighter in Berlin so he stayed here and wasn´t forced to join the army. But all the others? Even when they were no convinced Nazis, it´s very likely that they did what the most Germans did, they watched away when it starts until it was to late to stop it, which makes them just as guilty in my eyes. I struggle with that a lot. So thank you for sharing your view how to work with that!

That is a tricky spot. There is a certain desire to know those stories and find the wounds, but also it's so hard to hear those stories and know how involved or not family was. Thanks for sharing!

A very wonderful video and so relevant. Thank you. I also work with environment healing as well and what may have happened people-made with conflicts. Dowsing can be used to locate areas of a geopathic nature. This can be done with maps as well remotely. This is something Druids can do for the past and for now time events to help people involved and the environment. I have been working with Oghams for Ancestor Magic. Danu Forest's The World Tree Reading is a three Ogham reading that gives messages from the Ancestors from Annwn, the place of ancestral wisdom, the middle world, Abred, plant, animal and elemental spirits of the sacred earth and how to honor and relate to them and the top ogham is for the Upper World, Gwynfyd, the place of source and our eternal selves to draw energy and ideas and claim a positive perspective for the effects and consequences of our actions and to make rectification when needed. Healing ourselves now will also, like you said, enable us to pass on a more harmonious legacy. There is no need to feel helpless for what has happened. We can and should do all we can to start and keep the healing happening. Thanks again for such a fab video. Peace of the Blessed Groves. /I\
