  • In this episode, I review my first asymmetrical surfboard from Rozbern Surf.
It has a unique design and it’s filled with magic that could help surfers to do turns and cutbacks with less effort.
This particular board is for regular foot surfers. It has a shorter rail line on the heel side which allows you to ease into a turn with less effort and longer rail line on the toe side to generate good speed when you go down the line.
This board is in size 5’9” x 20 3/4 x 2 5/8 with ~ 34 L of volume with fishy outline, soft rails, mellow low entry rocker and round tail.
This whole package provides great stability, good paddling speed and forgiving surf in gutless waves.
Speaking of gutless waves. We’ve been getting them a lot in the past two months and I am so stoked to find the surfboard that can cover a wide range of conditions.
The most exciting moment is when you go front side and try to do a turn. It feels like you knife the wave and it goes back to the pocket with so much freedom. It also works great going backside.
I’m really hooked on this design and I want to get another asymmetrical surfboard with a little bit more extreme outline.
I’d recommend this board to all level surfers to take advantage of enjoying turns with less effort.
If you are a beginner, you can easily go bigger.
More advanced surfers can go shorter. I’m happy with the 5’9 to surf really weak waves but if I was around good waves all the time, then I'd go with the 5'5-5'7".
    Enjoy this episode!

congrats on the sweet sled…looks like you got a pretty good day at Town Beach in ‘Gansett (?) it’s been close to 20 years since i’ve surfed up there 🥴😫👵🏼 lol. one thing that got me to the next level surfing was pausing half a second and squaring up my bottom turn to where you really dig in so that you can turn harder off the top without using your upper body. try it on a skateboard with carving wheels and transition where you start pushing power slides and see where it takes you out on the wave … 🤙🏽💯✨

for instance @ 3:33 give urself a slight pause, square up, find the bottom of the wave and dig in that bottom turn. that same wave you start to do something similar to what i’m getting at and then you get the board full on rail which looks good and I bet felt great as i’m sure you were still kinda feeling out that board a bit as well during that session (?) cheers

Dude, thank you so much for sharing your tips. This was filmed out front in Rockaway Beach. I miss northern spots though. I’ll try to apply your tips. I did slightly start to make that pause and its been rewarding 🤘🏼 Cheers!!!

Why can't you use normal future fins? Like a twin fin in one side and quads in the other side? Whats special about the assym set? By the way those rails look really sharp like a step rail with flat deck? Do you mean soft like no sharp edge on bottom?

      Hey Troy!
Good question. I may have to try that. I've done some research online and in most cases you want to go with a specific fin set. If you have no other choices, then you can go with the regular quad + twin(keel) which would require you to use 2 fin sets from other boards (keel set + quad set) of fins just to use it for 1 asym board.
To get the best performance and make the rails engaged properly, the shapers recommend these specifically designed fins for asym boards (after extensive testing etc).
