  • Welcome to the review of the Album Surfboards Disasym!
The Disasym I’ve been riding is a custom and is 5’8 @ 30.5L, and is an asymmetrical Surfboard.
You may recognise this board as the one that Dane Reynolds surfed in Stabs Electric Acid Surfboard Test! After seeing Dane on that board (which I feel like looked the best under his feet) I was super keen to check one out!
I’ve been surfing the Disasym for a few months now in a variety of conditions from knee high to well over head, and feel it best performs in waves around 3-6ft (shoulder high to well overhead), and also in waves with a bit of push behind them!
I was new to asymmetrical surfboards, and was a little skeptical of the design, but now having tried it, I’m a believer and now own three asyms of my own! The asym design really lets you jam into turns, and also pulls you through them with speed and grip. The Disasym also has quite a lot of rocker, but surprisingly for a board of this rocker it also carries a lot of natural speed!
I feel like the Disasym is built to perform, with the only limitations being the quality of waves, and the ability level of the surfer. It’s super fast, responsive, curvy, a lot of fun to ride, and you can’t ask for more than that in a Surfboard!
    About the Disasym from www.albumsurf.com
Asymmetrical performer. Twin-fin speed on your toes with a quad grip and aggressive rail line on your heels. Performance rocker, deep single concave, allows this board to light up average surf.
The magic is that it has the speed of a twin-fin married to the maneuverability & confidence of a performance shortboard. Goes equally well frontside & backside - engineered to maximize each approach uniquely.
A big thank you also to all the boys at Stab that got the footage of Dane from the Electric Acid Surfboard Test to us. I’d tell you to go to iTunes and buy the movie, but it’s now free on CZcams to watch! It’s epic so check it out if you haven’t already!

Epic. Thanks for the review! Right on-point with the model features. One benefit to add: With an asym fin setup, your back foot sits more easily above or even behind the center of the fins, giving you more pivot control. And the lack of a trailing back fin contributes a ton to the increase in speed.

Album Surf thanks for adding that! I try not to get too tech, I like to talk more about surfing experience, but that’s a really great point to add! Thanks again, the board is epic! 🤙

Hey guys one possibly dumb question stemming from ignorance. Is left/right asym bought for goofie/natural stance or for a left/right wave what takes preference?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  Před 5 lety

@@DanielSkilpie thats not dumb, I should have been a bit clearer! You can go left and right on an asym, but they are generally shaped specifically for a natural or goofy footer! So mine are all shaped for a natural footer, which is good to keep my goofy footer friends off them! Haha!

Hey Craig, congrats on the board reviews. I've been watching through a few and have a Cab Sav 2 from Nick Blair (along with a bunch of his other models). Keep up the no BS reviews, they are really helpful for the average surfer and it's awesome to hear about a few of the lesser know brands. Have a good 2019

James Marlay thanks for the feedback, Stoked you’re enjoying the reviews! It’s great to highlight there are a lot of shapers/brands out there that make great boards!
We did a Cab Sav 2 Review a while ago, and are about to grab an original Cab Sav!

You surfed the assym well it look like an interesting board.
My shapers been doing asymmetrical boards for years. They are called normal short boards but he’s 70yrs old and his eyesights going and they are always non symmetrical but they go great. Good review once again.

Hahahahahahaha! This is amazing, but I'm sure there's plenty of 30yo shapers out there with good eye sight throwing some asymmetry into their shapes... It's what makes the boards go so good. sometimes. Haha!

      @@TheSurfboardGuide cool...mmm think I'll have to try shape & make 1 ;)
"I'm not out there to be the next & new Shaper out there, I do it for the passion"
I've recently finished shaping my fourth board over two yrs. 1st one really fun learning the lines. 2nd went really well. Got pitched in a hollow bouncy takeoff, fell on the board. Snapped it in 2 & cracked a rib.
3rd board similar to Craig Anderson's Hipto. Great from 2ft to 6ft. (face) Loving it.
4th is my winter board for Blue Water Bay mouth (where Craig Anderson's learnt how to surf) & Jbay.
I really enjoy your vlogs by the way. Thank you ;)

Much the same as forehand - really no different. Super fast and lively. Actually rode this board yesterday for the first time in about a year and it still felt amazing!
