John Swinney describes housing emergency in Scotland as homelessness soars

- John Swinney claims the Scottish Government "recognizes the seriousness of the situation we are facing in relation to homelessness" as the SNP are set to declare a national housing emergency after an outcry over the impact on children and families.
Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville will confirm the move after figures revealed 10,000 kids are languishing in temporary accommodation.
Homelessness is at record levels, with 30,724 open applications recorded - an increase of 10%, with private rental prices rising by 6.8% in the twelve months to January and housebuilding has slumped.

The debate has been going on for years. We know house prices are too high. Rent is far too high. Homelessness is growing out of control. What is there to debate ?
They have under built housing for 50+ years quite deliberately.
