  • With the resignation of SNP leader Humza Yousaf creating questions about what is next for Scotland, Nick Ferrari was joined by broadcasters Andrew Neil and Lesley Riddoch.
    Ms Riddoch offered a fiery response to Nick and Mr Neil’s terming Scotland a ‘basket case’.
    The SNP is in meltdown as a tearful Humza Yousaf quit his role as party leader on Monday after the collapse of their power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens.
    Addressing the breakdown of the deal on Monday, Mr Yousaf acknowledged that he had "underestimated" the level of hurt it would cause.
    Mr Yousaf will stay on as first minister while an SNP leadership election takes place, following in similar footsteps to his predecessor Nicola Sturgeon.
    The first minister u-turned after previously saying he would not resign and instead intended to win two no-confidence votes.

    I wouldn't ask Andrew Neil where the nearest Post Office was, much less how Scotland ought to be governed.
    I am in my late fifties, formerly a solid Labour voter until the last General Election. I switched to the SNP not because of independence, on which I remain undecided, but because I no longer know what Labour stand for. The 2003 Gulf War was the start of my concern in that regard, and their abject failure to stand firmly against the debacle that is Brexit cemented that view.
    I would rather blind myself with a hot poker than vote Tory. So, despite their obvious weaknesses, I will continue to vote SNP, in the knowledge that our voting system allows for a far broader view to prevail in Holyrood than Westminster, whilst they have a period of internal reflection..

    With all the talk from Nick Ferrari and Andrew Neil about the United Kingdom they hate it when people bring up the English.
    The English, through its built in majority in Westminster, controls Scotland financially and politically, even to the extent that the Scottish people do not have the right to decide for themselves if and when to hold an independence referendum.
    English politicians see to it that as soon as the independence issue comes to the fore the financial squeeze is put on the Scots so that they can blame Scotland for the condition it is kept in.
    There are times when commentators, such as Ferrari and Neil, and Tory and Labour politicians, want to speak in favour of the UK but don't want to acknowledge the power of the English in how the UK, and especially Scotland, is run.

      I'm a Scot, the only thing keeping the shipyards open is the Royal Navy. Without them we would have absolutely no shipping industry. That is an undeniable fact. The SNP have been in power for 17 years, they've done nothing to reverse or attract new investment. Infact the SNP are totally against heavy industries including oil extraction.

      This is categorically untrue. 1 in 7 Scots are on an NHS waiting list. Your broken grammar highlights the falling standards in Scotland. Education levels are the lowest in Europe. You need a reality check, and we in Scotland need another election to remove the SNP. Scotland is in dire straits with the SNP, causing the decline in our energy. As a Shetlander, we are close to leaving Scotland and joining the UK as an overseas island. Shocking government from the SNP.

  • @jaydeeess1042
    @jaydeeess1042 Před 14 dny

    Lesley is spot on. Andrew Neil's contribution is unadulterated prejudice dressed up as objective observation. He was not asked to,provide any evidence for his string of denigrating statements about Scotland or the Scottish Government. I don't know where to start with what Nick Ferrari is saying. His criticism of Education is based on PISA! PISA is not a reliable way of comparing education systems. It focuses on a very narrow part of the Curriculum, it is a sampling system with all the built in uncertainties of such a system. It is voluntary, with plenty of opportunities to "game" the system. He should have a look at the results of Michael Gove's reforms in Education in England. He attributes lower life expectancy to the SNP! Nothing to do with 300 years of being a junior partner in the U.K., by any chance? Poverty, substance abuse, mental ill-health, physical ill-health and other poor outcomes are well-documented results of colonisation, which is where Scotland finds itself today. Andrew Neil babbles on about Scottish Independence being to do with dislike of the "English". That is simply not the case. If anything, the dislike is of snobbery and exceptionalism, regardless of nationality. Andrew Neil epitomises that kind of individual. I look forward to the day when the people of Scotland will be treated with equal respect to people of any other nationality. I don't see that happening as long as people like Andrew Neil remain in positions of influence.
