In SICARIO, Day of the Soldado, the series begins a new chapter. In the drug war, there are no rules - and as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) calls on the mysterious Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin, to escalate the war in nefarious ways. Alejandro kidnaps the kingpin’s daughter to inflame the conflict - but when the girl is seen as collateral damage, her fate will come between the two men as they question everything they are fighting for.

There was a time that he was one of the most uninteresting actors on film. Flat and uninteresting. Maybe just a consequence of bad casting or he hadn't found his niche. He's really hit his stride with the Sicario series.

Benicio del Toro has a low-key and understated demeanor.
Del Toro's style is no flash, not loud and not abrasive...
...which wouldnt work in movies that call for loud and overly abrasive personalities to appeal to the hillbilly demographic.

I love this movie, and the relationship between Matt and Alejandro, and the poor kid. I'm glad they saved her.
She is nowhere a poor kid...She is fine, allways being saved by somebody across the whole movie.

You can see how much it pained Matt to have to hang Alejandro out to dry, but Alejandro was a realist and he knew his position, there was no animosity. Glad he made it in the end, but he didn't have a great time doing it.
One of the best movie I've ever seen. I can't forget the dark and grim fate that Alejandro experienced. And, I was happy to see that he's still alive. Chilling ending that make me expect the next movie.
When Alejandro got "killed" it actually fucked me up. I was like this is not how he deserves to die. And then he became Hispanic Doom Guy. He's just too angry to die.

ApeHead it's funny, the line is actually removed in the film. That telephone call just ends with brolin saying good luck and del toro just hangs up.
Those lines were removed from the movie, don't know why.

@@briannoojin1710 matt will turn a blind eye to Alejandro surviving and will try to make sure it's not reported. he also didn't kill the girl, which one of his squadmates notes will come back to cause some issue for them.
@@jg14gerhard_bar Good point, maybe if Matt is out of favor with the admin. and becomes a black sheep, then he can team up with Alejandro against both sides. There's a lot of interesting directions it could go.

I went to see the first one, second one. And if the 3rd one comes out I would probably go see it. I watched all the 007 with Craig in the cinema as well. I dont really care for all the comics universe movies nowadays.

benicio’s character is written very differently in this one. in the 1st movie he was a cold killer but in the sequel he’s more humane and vulnerable, you may say a bit out of character but in my opinion it’s growth.
starman That's because he was out for revenge in the first movie. His Revenge was completed in the first film also. So he appears to be less cold and brutal in the second film. But make no mistake he is still a sicario. Which makes him still very dangerous if you piss him off.
THE PLAGUE DOCTOR WILL SEE YOU NOW oh totally. i didn’t mean like he got soft or anything, i just saw his character in the 2nd movie as a more complex one with a lot of emotions; not just rage and determination but also compassion and fear.
It's because she reminds him of his daughter which he lost! Hell every girl does lol.. Not gonna clean up and get rid of her, Not on his watch, Not Ever!
He may have been a cold blooded killer in the first movie but he still had morals, if you remember he left the maid/housewife alive when it would make his life easier to kill all the witnesses at the end of the movie. I don't think that this humane attitude is out of character, he probably has a special place in his heart for little girls considering his daughter

Saw the movie a few days ago,this scene was just perfect, the details, special effects, everything. All the movie was sick bytheway, loved it!
I love how not only is he sure he WILL find her alone, his bro in the CIA knows he can. So he sets him loose alone. Thats such a bromance if i ever saw, he even gives him some extra gear and a one way to get in touch. A little shoulder slap and its ttyl bro

The correct response to being fired upon by a leading technical is ramming, then engage. Stopping short and firing from open doors is high risk.

The ending was so cheesy... “you want to be a Sicario?” It would’ve been way more powerful if they cut the movie to the ending credits when that spoilt brat of a kid opens the door and to his shock finds Alejandro alive. And as the door closes, you hear a gun shot. I’d much rather have him be screwed and scared than be persuaded to be a “hitman” when all he’s really being is a “thug lyf got in with the wrong crowd teenager” ughhhhh
@@jzkh5609 All True. If Alejandro died it would make the Second Movie about Matt or someone coming for the U.S. as personal vengeance and taking down the CIA and Matt dies with the plans, ending the trilogy.. But this was cool too.

@@InfamousAWJ coz they supposed to work together, and now Matt has been ordered to cut ties with Alejandro and the girl. Alejandro had no choice but to protect the girl and get her across the border, to avoid getting killed. They're been working together for years already, so its sad that because of some orders, they need to turn their backs to each other. Thats why its sad scene.

I just seen this tonight here in Dublin. EXCELLENT. Brolin and Toro are so good together. So Real. Anyway Beniccio Del Toro is the best actor in the world anyway. So anything with him in it is going to be good.
Awesome film, best of its kind since Black Hawk Down. This director has incredible action chops. Josh and Benicio are just in top form. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the 1st film (one of my favs) but its almost better, the approach is different as it's a straight up actioner with a great story that really draws you in. Bring on #3 Alejandro's Revenge! PS: Taylor Sheridan is an exceptional writer, everything he does is incredible- if you liked this see Wind River.
I always tell people who haven't seen either film that the first one is "Alien", the second one is "Aliens".
Look at the effects of this on Isabel. At the end, the poor girl was catatonic and in shock.Focus on what Alejandro replies to Matt, "Not this one".
She came across as an arrogant drug princess to a traumatized little girl who had been kidnapped, shot at (three times), almost raped and kidnapped again to be ransomed off. While the boy became a drug dealer/human trafficker who we never find out his fate at the end of the movie.
Bad news: the movie is not a 10 like the first one

As someone who has driven in convoys with indigenous police forces of questionable loyalty, this scene was incredibly tense for me.
I had my wife next to me during the film. Right as this scene started, I began to focus on the M240 gunner, whose vehicle was tailing a little slower than the other Federales and ultimately provided the blocking point for the HMMWVs.
"Him. I don't like him," I told her. "Keep your eye on that '240 gunner."
Sure enough, green on blue.
Funny to note: Matt calls contact on left side @ 100m. He is looking -and the target is engaged- on his right side.
Still, powerful scene.

This was a good action movie, but really lacked something compared to the first. I think that Blunt's character, or an equivalent, was sorely missed; she was the baseline that made the other characters seem so wild.

Pretty unrealistic. Granted it's a fictional movie plot, but the world of Sicario is grounded in harsh realities and gritty realism. Or at least it was supposed to be....
But her escaping made for a more interesting plot. It is a movie after all
