i miss the memories SO MUCH! going to any other sims game without memories is so disappointing. however… i think the main reason they stopped using memories is because it caused so much corruption in the game. you couldn’t delete sims, houses with memories, graves, etc. it would corrupt your whole game and as someone who had to restart their game several times because of this, it can become quite frustrating. that being said, it’s 2022 and there’s no reason they couldn’t implement that into future games. the technology has advanced enough to where this shouldn’t be a huge problem.

You mean after Maxis? Yes. I agree.
I actually owned stock in EA, and I sold it in DISGUST, because of how they treated customers in their game design, making the CDs only available to load a limited number of times, breaking things, rather than fixing them, promising to fix them, and then not fixing them, and just general jackassery.
Sims 4 - I bought it, with much excitement, and sometimes I play, but... It does not hold even a CANDLE to Sims 2, and holds barely a small, tiny, toy oil lamp to Sims 3.

That depends. If you spring for the GOOD plumbing, you can flush away, without annoying anyone.
But, yeah, cheap plumbing makes a DIFFERENCE.
And after you've repaired it a number of times, you get a permanent "drip drip drip" sound that never goes away until you actually replace it, with better plumbing. As an avid "Apocalypse challenge" player, I am very familiar with that drip, and I can tell you, it REALLY adds to the creepy atmosphere.
Sometimes, if I want to play a "Halloween" game with lots of ghosts and stuff, I'll purposely break and repair some cheap plumbing, over and over, until I get the drip, and just hide it in a tiny room, JUST for the sound effect. It's great in a "dungeon" or something like that.
"Ummmm, is my jailer performing the Chinese water torture on another captive, while he's not busy with me? I wish I could SEE!"
      Hehehe. Psychological pixel torture. MOOOOOHAHAHAHAHA!
Now, if only I could turn those cockroaches into rats, and ensure they infest the cells, and not some random spot out on the yard...
Anyone know any good medieval dungeon mods?

Totally agree with the cooking and shopping stuff here. Cooking animations in 4 are always over the top and cartoonish. I dunno, I just prefer the more realistic and detailed cooking animations of 2 (and the food looking good, especially the pizza, that freaking bends and doesn't look like cupboard). I also like to go shopping for groceries and clothes in 2. It adds to to the immersion and gives a good excuse to send your Sims to a public lot and have them converse with your fellow neighbours, who always use up the freaking chess table.
Another detail? Public venues actually working. In The SIms 2 I can go to a restaurant for a meal, no problems. Or go to the bar, have a talk with fellow drunks. Or go to a nightclub. In 4... restaurants barely work, bartenders spend most of their time standing around or just leaving the bar. Most of the venues won't work and it's frustrating as hell! Sims 2 didn't have any problems with that. You can easily create a bowling alley with a bar and it works fine.
Then there are all the small details when it comes to interactions. Be it autonomous actions based on personality or flavour (like how shy sims act more, well, shy in some actions). Or how wants and fears are afected by things happening in their lives (had a burglar? Suddenly your sim may want a burglar alarm).
Sims 4 has some pretty neat ideas, but always lacks in execution, whereas 2 set the groundwork for most of those ideas and executed them very well and with loving care, that leads to the tons of detail videos, we see nowadays. And rightfully so.

Also, if you're playing a Sims 2 Apocalypse challenge, you can teach the toddlers the nursery rhyme early, and they may not even have a crib and have to pass out on the floor, with no baths and no toys, but they'll still be reasonably happy, and grow up with some charisma skill.
And they're SO CUTE when they sing. I remember, still, when it first came out, and I was playing in the computer room (we had a separate room in those days), and my Mom was doing some word processing stuff on hers, while I played on mine, and she asked me, "What IS that cute song? It's adorable!" She never cared for the sims, because she said, "I raised children. Why would I want to play a game with people who don't do what I tell them to do?" (She's an online puzzle fiend, though), but even she would always come to watch, every time my toddlers sang that adorable nursery rhyme.

    • @AuntLoopy123
      @AuntLoopy123 Před rokem +3

      Agreed.
I LOVE the Downtown Time Warp, but then again, I also love Sims 3 open world. The pause button is your friend. Click on a sim, look at their surroundings, line up the queue, and then do the same with all your other household sims, and you can make everyone productive (or not), at the same time. But Sims 4... OH, you want to follow one of your sims to work? That's great. Everyone else will do whatever the heck they darn well please, and you have NO control over them.
Honestly, in Sims 4, I either play a singleton, all the time, or I play sims with careers where they just "rabbithole" it, and come back at a certain time, and then I take THE ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD to community lots, or not at all, because I HATE only being able to control SOME of the sims, while the others are doing who-knows-what? Or doing nothing at all.
Why couldn't they AT LEAST let us pause and swap between one community lot and the home lot? At least that much?
I don't mind losing the Downtown Time Warp, like we did with Sims 3, but I DO MIND, SO VERY, VERY MUCH the way Sims 4 changed their "open world," to, "You can handle just one little place at a time, and THAT IS IT.
So, you take your whole family to the neighborhood with the library, gym, museum, on it. But, you can ALL visit ONE BUILDING AT A TIME, and that's that. You can stand at the gate for the gym, but since you have one sim studying, that's just too damn bad. Nobody can work out, while someone else is studying. And you HAVE to watch them study, because they KEEP RANDOMLY QUITTING! So you have to keep commanding them again and again. It doesn't even work to queue it up, like yoga in Sims 2. Nope. You have to manually click again and again and again. Sure, the rest of the family can enjoy the outdoors nearby, but nobody can visit the museum, to do THEIR quest to view ten paintings. Nope. If someone needs to study at the library, ONLY THE LIBRARY CAN BE ACCESSED!
      I hate it.
I mean, I can accept that the "open world," is divided into neighborhoods with loading screens. But what the heck is it with the divided lots? You have five lots in this neighborhood, but we can only do ONE AT A TIME?!
It's like, they looked at Sims 3, said, "That's great! Time moving at home, while it's moving in the neighborhood is great! Let's get rid of the Downtown Time Warp. Oh, but let's not let them actually USE that time for any but the active sim(s). It's an open world, but at the same time, it's completely closed!
I mean, at least give us THE NEIGHBORHOOD! This little area of five lots together, where one sim can be fishing, one can be playing on the playground, one can be doing their studies at the library, one can be working out at the gym, and one can be inspired at the museum!

I remember watching some Sims 2 the other day and it was amazing how detailed some of it was, I noticed with cars specifically, the sim gets into his cheap car and awkwardly shifts around in the seat trying to get comfy, then tries to shut the door but has to slam it shut again after it bounces open because the car is really cheap, and before they pull away you can hear the sound of the engine turning over as it struggles to start. In the Sims 3 by comparison they just get in and drive off, or just spawn the car out of their pocket and transition into it.

Honestly I only had the base game and night life because my parents didn't like wasting money on video games but it was the most fun I ever had. From going shopping, to placing lots freely and creating your own town. Also teens being able to drop off their younger siblings on their way to school. The different types of transportation depending on your sims job/rank. I actually enjoyed playing with kids, once for some odd reason my sims kids while playing outside they ran away. It was so fun going through your sims memories and sims having the option to run from one place to another, making it faster to get somewhere. I could literally spend the whole day playing as to sims4 after a couple of hours i feel bored.

so i just started replaying the sims 2 and it is SO insane how much more in love the sims look compared to the sims 4. how they wake up when they're in bed together just to cuddle, and just lay in bed and hold each other before they get out of bed. or the slow dancing interactions and the romance interactions when they're at the table. UGH! literally makes the sims feel so alive!

Toddlers are my favorite life stage and Sims 2 is why. When I heard TS4 didn't have toddlers when it first came out I turned away and didn't look back for six years. I was not going back to The Sims' infant in a crib turning into a full blown child . . . not unless I was actually playing The Sims anyway. Seven toddler challenge? Yeah, I call that regular game play. Although admittedly, I prefer two adults to six toddlers, but I love toddlers. I can just imagine me playing 100 Baby challenge (haven't yet, but plan to eventually . . . I have letting my sims die) and keeping the toddlers toddlers until the last second, but aging up the children and teens ASAP.
I love so much the way my sims households would collect clothing from various members of the family and if I wanted something specific I could go shopping for it. TS4 give me reasons to leave my sims house. I want to go shopping . . . something I will pretty much never say about real life, because I don't like shopping in real life . . . but only if it really matters.
Things I miss . . . honeymoons. After Bon Voyage came out if you got married, you went on a honeymoon. Well, you already went on a honeymoon, but after Bon Voyage, you could choose to make that a full blown vacation with just the two of you. Yeah, you can kind of do that in TS4, but it's not the same. There are no activities to collect. There are no vacation buffs to get after returning.
Give me back the huggle . . . unless TS4 has the huggle and I just haven't seen it . . . I need to look into that, because two toddlers having a huggle is the cutest thing in the game.
And on the lines of cars. I want the fix it car back. I love having two sims work on fixing the car together and seeing it come together.
You mentioned toddlers in cribs. Yeah, even just toddlers in cribs would be wonderful. I think it would be great if we had both the crib option and the bed option. It would let us, if we so chose, show our toddlers getting older. Let them have a crib for a couple of days and then move into a toddler bed. It's funny. In TS2 I downloaded a toddler bed, because I wanted that functionality. In TS4 I have to download a crib (pandasama) to have that functionality.
Changing tables. Please and thank you. There is a reason we want all these little realism details in our life simulator. And speaking of realism . . . give me my nursery rhymes back. That was right up there on the cuteness scale.
And I want my bunny cult back. For anyone who is not my sister, since she's the only one who would instantly understand that, the bunny cult is what my sister and I called the charisma toddler toy that was a bunny head. Forget TS4 and taking selfies with people. The really easiest way to gain friends is to plop a toddler down in front of the bunny and direct everyone on the lot to join. If I remember correctly, the toddler might have been able to invite people to join, so even people outside the household could be instructed to join, but that thing is potent. Even without being directed, the sims would just line up cross legged around the toddler playing with the bunny toy and while they did they would chat. The reason this is more potent than selfies is instead of getting two people's friendship level up, you can get a dozen people's friendship levels up or more. It's insane. It's the bunny cult.

Ha, the bunny cult sounds amazing. I've had a sim sit down with a toddler before when they've been playing with the rabbit head but I haven't actually worked at it. I must check it out. Changing tables are great. And if your sim doesn't have a changing table they just throw the diaper on the floor, it doesn't just disappear into thin air. Huggles are the best.
Never played Sims 4, never wanted to. No pools, no cars and no toddlers was a deal breaker for me. Even after they put toddlers in, they're cute, yes, but they seem way to independent. Sims 2 all the way!

Have you ever played Lords of the Realm? I LOVED it. Back in the 90's, it was a REALLY fun game. Then, Lords of the Realm II came out, and I LOVED it. My sister prefers the first one, but I prefer the second one. Basically, IMO, they took the best parts of the original, cleaned them up, and added better graphics and user interface, and more control. My brother and father also loved LOTR and LOTR II.
Then, they released Lords of the Realm III. We were all SO EXCITED! I bought it on the first day.
I played for about 15 minutes, and gave up, because IT SUCKED SO MUCH!
One of the things I LOVED about LOTR was the turn-based strategy game, that gave you full and complete control of all your subjects, and their assignments. LOTR III decided that turn-based is nonsense, and made it all real-time. And if you paused? They made it impossible to ACTUALLY LOOK AT ANYTHING. You want to check out what's happening on the castle project? NOPE. Not while paused. Stuff is still happening, whenever you're trying to look at the various areas at your command, and figure out what commands you need to command. But don't worry. You won't be ISSUING any commands, because you now HAVE NO DIRECT CONTROL! What CAN you control? What CAN you decide? You can decide which manager, out of the ones that HAPPEN to be available AT THAT TIME, you will hire, and where you will place them. THEY all have their own personalities and their own priorities, and THEY will decide what you're going to do with what, in their little area of control. And you don't KNOW that those priorities are, because YOU HAVE NO TIME TO READ THE DESCRIPTIONS BECAUSE YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING WHILE PAUSED! So, you wind up randomly hiring a manager for here, and randomly hiring a manager for there, and HOPE that they actually prioritize the things YOU ACTUALLY WANT, but you won't KNOW until some time has passed, and then, you have to decide whether to spend your resources on another batch of RANDOM MANAGERS, THAT MAY OR MAY NOT ACTUALLY AGREE WITH YOU AND YOUR PRIORITIES or suck it up, and just let them keep going as they will, while YOU CHANGE YOUR ENTIRE PLAYSTYLE AND STRATEGY TO MATCH THE RANDOM MANAGERS YOU HIRED, JUST TO GET YOUR SUBJECTS TO DO ANY WORK, AT ALL!
"Oh, well, I GUESS my country will just focus on mining all the stone out of the earth. Who cares about wood or iron ore, right? No need for balanced resources. It's not as if we're going to be using them BUILDING anything, or creating weapons, or ACTUALLY FIGHTING OUR NEIGHBORS, because ALL of my managers are cowards and pacifists, who think we can conquer the world by mining all the stone. Of course, if we have more stone than anyone, all the neighbors will just randomly surrender to us, right?"
Can you tell that I HATE Lords of the Realm III? I even went back and tried it again. TWICE. Each time hoping that I had just imagined the atrocity. I had not.
My Dad gave it 30 whole minutes in one go before he broke the disk.
My sister and brother listened to our screams of frustration, and never bought it for themselves.
Now, here's the thing: IF this had been a game designed from scratch, with NO ESTABLISHED FAN BASE, I'm sure there would be MANY people who enjoy playing it. I am well aware that there is a good market for real-time strategy games.
BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT MADE LOTR AND LOTR THE GAMES THEY ARE!
It's like saying, "We have a lot of people who love lemons. Let's sell them limes, and call it an upgrade. I mean, it's all citrus, anyway, right?"
Instead of making Lords of the Realm III, they should have made, "Medieval Real-Time Conquering Game," and marketed it as such, with a better title. They would have made NEW fans, while the other fans of LOTR and LOTR II kept buying replacement disks, or more disks to share with their friends.

It took a long time for me to figure out what happened. Also each skill had its own secret lot where you go to do hobbies and upgrade skills. And the Sims 2 University for me is the only University worth playing and realistic. There is cafeteria, they actually move there and have a normal number of semesters and exams. They study yet also have fun. In Sims 4 they pass out of exhaustion studying, live at home, or at some non customizable dorm, and they cannot properly have the college experience. Maybe if you only have like 1-2 classes, but then it takes forever to graduate (12 classes)

Just like when you give them a little makeover and they react to it in the mirror.. plenty of times I thought I did such a great job on their makeover but to them .. not so much lol and have to retry. It’s crazy how much unique personalities sims 2 sims have. I haven’t had 2 sims ever be the same when it comes to the in-depth gameplay mechanics.

One feature I love in the Sims 2 FreeTime is the ability to create custom radio stations. You can place your custom music in custom stations in order to organize everything. It can be useful if you want a specific album in the game, or a specific singer/composer.
There is another feature not all people know about is that you can set camera positions in the game.
If you press "Ctrl+ a number from the number row from 4 to 9" you can fix a camera position.
Pressing this number will automatically place the camera on that position.
It can be a very useful tool for story telling and recording the gameplay.
Also, pre-made households in the game already have some camera positions set.
For example, in the Pleasant family when you press one of the numbers you will focus on the pool, the master bedroom or the mailbox.
It probably hints about the drama, when Daniel is with the maid in the bedroom and Mary-Sue comes from work.
And there are so much little details to find that amazes me.
Yesterday I found out that the sheet music printed on the toy xylophone is actually the first notes of "twinkle twinkle little star"

I miss everything from the sims 2, especially the personality points... it was so much better than just boring and annoying traits... I don't know why they diverged from personality points, its what made our sims more grounded. When you see a person for the first time, you judge them on their behavior and how they are at the base. things that really are transparent and obvious and that lead people to act or react a certain way, such were the personality points... is he clean or a mess? is she shy or outgoing? Is he funny or not? Is she nice or not? Is he active or lazy? Those are things everybody can relate to and things we can observe from other pretty fast, not like if they like outdoor activities or if they are Angry person lol, traits always have been a downgrade for me, and more of a second layer of your personality. The problem is the sims 4 and 3 had it as base of the personality, which is extremely poor representation of a personality, because I can be mean for a certain moment in my life but somehow change later...
Also, sims 2 had interest points, randomized, but could be change through reading magazines. That was really great because that influenced how much your sims could get along with each other, depending on how much they liked one type of subject or another, and you could see what was going on with the bubbles with the subject icons... it was great because if I wanted to have a certain sim with my own sim and I needed to change a interest points, I could do it, without even asking any question to the other sims, just by looking to the icon, not like in the sims 4 where you have to ask what's their favorite clothing fashion is... you should guest it by the look of the sim anyway lol...
Another thing I miss is the attraction system, we don't technically have it in the sims 4 yet, because that's only a sexual orientation system we have, but in the sims 2 you could decide what they were looking for in therme of body/dressing/hairs preferences... which make sense and worked very well with lightning bolts as icons.
I miss the fluidity of the sims, they would walk over small objects, they would walk while talking to the phone, open their arms while walking to embrace another sim, the idle animations usually where done also while walking... the sims 4 could never with their idles animations that make the sims stop and go all the time...im looking at your BTD sniffing dust animation each time sims change floors, god them it... this must be the most annoying one. You had a feeling of having accomplish a lot through the day because animations where fluid, and did not consume so much time in your sims life. Also, if they were late at work or school they would freaking run their life to it in no time. What a satisfaction and relief to see your sims obey in a hurry to do what you asked them to do.
I miss cars from the sims 2, yes cause we had it in the sims 3, but it was not as cool, less things to do and even though they were truly a transport staple, it felt a little meh...
I miss mondain chores, like the baby diapers on the floor, the bed open that you need to remake each morning, yes they were more task, but also, a reason to use the maid services.

I miss the sims 2 scenes, I really wish it made a comeback in the sims 4. I also miss how the toddlers looked like real toddlers, I miss the thief, he was annoying but it made it more realistic to me. I miss the sims 2 in general, I would do anything to play it again :)

In all my time playing the Sims 2, I never noticed that younger siblings could wear the clothes of older ones! I'm mind-blown!
This game was made with so much care for its players. The things that seemed normal at that time are not available no more in TS4... It makes me think that you should never take anything for granted, especially with companies such as EA...

I’ve been playing sims 2 lately, and I do love the little details, and even the creepy way they stare at you, lol I do miss cars in the sims 2, and kids playing with each other, and robbers, and cops, but I don’t miss cas, or building in the sims 2, or not being able to multitask, or not being able to punish teenagers, or tell toddlers not to do something bad, plus their needs go so fast, but yes lots of great stuff in sims 2.

I was the other way around and remembered hating having to buy my groceries and clothes all the time. I remember when the sims 3 came out and I played it finding out the clothes were all there and didn't need to be bought I was so happy. I never cared much for realism in my sims games. It added to much time away when my sims could be doing anything else at all that was actually fun to me. Just felt like a chore I had to do really.

Sims 2 feels so ahead of its time! I miss the cut scenes so much it really made it feel alive also Idk why but I miss making beds I get so annoyed that my sims just jump out and the bed is made. Sims 4 definitely needs to figure out a way to incorporate memories they gave the sims sooo much more storylines

My first experience that made me realize The Sims 2 was really special was, funny enough, the way they took bowls and such out of the cabinets. It blew my MIND because I'd only played TS3 and a little TS4 at that point so watching my Sims pull things from cabinets in this funny little 2004 game blew my mind. Ever since then I've been finding more little details (furiousness my ABSOLUTE beloved) and loving every second.

The sims 2 had so many small details. So does the sims 3 tbh. It’s so hard for me to decided between which one I like more because of it lol. Like I love how toddlers can break out of their cribs in the sims 2 and I love the cutscenes (although I wish they were more varied). But then I love create a style and the open world of the sims 3, and I love the storylines of both.
With that tangent aside I think I’m going play both games in a bit lol.

The OFB ticket machine is addictive. Two poker tables and a bubble blower, plus my normal living room furniture (couch, computer, radio, etc.), in a room separate from the rest of my house, plus a bathroom with stalls and a sink, is all you need in order to make enough money that your Sims can spend all their time leveling skills. :P

I liked the detail of the tip of the pizza slices flopping when the Sims 2 Sims would carry them around. I also liked the bad suspension on the cheap, old banger car when it started, and that they had to slam the door twice to properly close it. It's details like those that really make the thing believable.

I loved the fact that time has not gone by on the other lot. I looove it. I hate that now every time I switch household, if the summer is gone in one, the other household now has fall, and I have to manually change it every time. It's like they are living their secret lives without me, I don't like it. Also when one sim leaves the lot, the others would just stop in time in Sims 2 and you could pick up where you left off. In Sims 4 I come back, and everything is all red, they are half dead and watching TV instead of eating, sleeping or going to the bathroom, all the while on the setting "care for self".

I still play the Sims 2; it is legend. The Sims 4 could never give us so much entertainment and joy. The Sims are just so much more dynamic and they interact even with the player. When you ask a sloppy Sim to clean up they look at the camera and sigh as if to say - really? You actually want me to clean up?? It’s hilarious. 😂 So many details like the couch indents when they sit down; they sit and talk at the dinner table when more than one sim is present; their thought bubbles represent what the conversation is about; they are so dramatic when they catch a partner or loved one cheating; they lose their minds over aspiration failure… The list is endless and this game gives me so much joy.. I play the Sims 3 too, but the Sims 2 is my first love ❤

Yes! Memories showed: You had an impact on the life of your Sim and you could see that.

I've been playing the sims 2 since it came out, and I never stopped. I play on my days off and lose track of time. It never gets boring even after twenty years. I think now that I'm middle aged, I play it a bit differently, but I've figured out what CC I like and don't like, and a lot of details I that took me a whole generation of time to uncover! But you can literally do anything. The sky is the limit with your creativity. I had to do a few hacks to get it to work on win10, but it works. I've had to reinstall a few times over the last 15 years when I got new computers. But I'm still going. I tried sims3 and sims4 when they were new. I had high hopes and was so excited. But then when I tried them, I was like wtf. I ran back to sims2 each time and I just love it too much to move on to something that isn't as good, gameplay wise. It IS very detailed. I don't care if the graphics are polygon whatever. I love them! If I live to be in my 50s and 60s and beyond, I will still be spending some time with my beloved sims2 as long as I have the tech to do it.

PLEASE PLEASE re-visit the Langraabs I would love to know if you can find out more about ''Johnny Zest'' than the very little we already know, can you look back through the timelines and find his childhood? He has to be the 'secret' talked of in the SIMS4 version of Landgraabs Bio. Johnny's bio simply says . Johnny Zest has the stage name and the dream, but maybe not the talent… Disowned by the Landgraabs for quitting school, Johnny wants to make his own fame and fortune as a standup comedian. It turns out that Johnny is a member of the Landgraab family!

I’m a bit too young to have played Sims 2 (I was born in 2000), Sims 3 was my first main game. But I played a ton of the Sims 2 console offshoots, and these were my introduction to The Sims as a whole. I always love seeing Sims 2 gameplay- I wish I could play it, but there’s stuff that stops me (the graphics, how households don’t progress if you don’t play them, etc).
