    This solution totally worked on my Rad Mini 4. The clicking sound started on the rear wheel of my bike after about 3 weeks and was only audible when I sat on the bike and moved. I thought my bike was defective or maybe I went over too many bumps and damaged the rim or something. When I'm off the bike and push it, I don't hear the sound at all. I also heard the sound when the bike was in motion regardless of whether I was pedaling or not, so I suspected it was the rear wheel and not the crank or chain. I went around the rear wheel squeezing each pair of spokes (like squeezing near the "X" where two spokes crossed) to feel for any play, then tightened each spoke accordingly. My spoke wrench didn't fit these thick spokes, so I had to use a pair of pliers (probably not recommended but I was super careful not to strip the corners of each spoke head). I also noticed that some spokes were slightly "bent" before I tightened the spokes - likely because they were loose. After tightening, the clicking sound is gone and I'm super happy. Thanks so much for figuring out this solution and sharing it with CZcams.

      The best way to d.i.y spoke tightening is to get a wrench or something similar and tap on each spoke and listen to the tone just like an instrument....and match the tones best you can ....way more efficient then feeling it by hand and you can get a way better idea of how loose or tight they are 👍.....this is also how alot of people will adjust a dirt bike rim if they are not around the necessary equipment

    I ran into this spoke issue too! I first noticed it around 1,000 miles and tightening the spokes really helped. I was able to do it at home using an adjustable wrench the first time, and I bought a spoke wrench for after that.

      I tried an adjustable wrench as well but quickly realized I could damage the spokes so I ordered the spoke wrench :) Thanks for watching!

    Oh thank you so much for this video ! I had a rear tire go flat cause a spoke punctured rear inner tube. I
    bought a spoke wrench and took bike to Berts Bike in Greece NY. Rad Power said they will reimburse the
    charges to repair the problem! Thank you so much !!!

      Had the same experience and rad sent me two spokes as a replacement and im on my own. Radpower bikes are pieces of shit buy at your own risk. This is a manufacturer defect btw, should not happen.

    Thank you for sharing this video.
    Here is to confirm that I had the same issue and it was fixed after adjusting two spokes.
    Since I did not have the special tool when I needed it I just used a wrench, which made it difficult to tighten up.
    I’ll be receiving the spokes tool tomorrow I ordered online, but it should have been part of the Rad Toolkit.
    BTW, my Radcity has 12G spokes.

    Good Video and I will give it a try. I have a Emojo Lynch folding bike. I’m sure they all come out of the same Chinese factories, just like cars, tweeted for the distributor like RAD or Emojo. I have this same clicking issue that I cannot figure out coming from the rear and happens with my weight on the back wheel. Started probably after 500 miles.

      @@EbikeEscape Yes Very! I have a Rhino about a year old and over the past few weeks have heard a clicking, thought it was the cables hitting the front mudguard now and again but turns out one lose spoke thanks for taking the time to make the vid!!!!

    Having this issue with my super 73 zx....I ordered a spoke wrench and I'm very good with tools and my hands and even fixing bikes ....but I think no matter what it seems like a bad idea to mess with the spokes if you don't know about balancing and building a wheel....I think I may do minor adjustments and then maybe stop at bike shop little later on.....because I feel like the rim can be bent easily like that .....thanks for the video dawg❤.......e bikes I feel should come with a spoke wrench....but they probably don't want people messing with the spokes honestly

    Did you find the truing change when you tightened them? Usually with spokes you true the wheel by tightening and loosening the spokes.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 4 lety +2

      Nope, I made very small adjustments to already loose spokes. If it the wheel is significantly out of true it is worth having a bike shop take a look.

    You got lucky that they tightened when you turned the nipple. I didn't have to take the entire tire off the rim. The nipple that you're screwing or spoken to Ken rotate on the inside while you're turning it and not tighten that spoke at all. Especially is there rusted because I don't use stainless steel on spokes and the nipples so they deteriorate. Do you have one of the tools if you come across one that turns but does not tighten you'll have to turn one of your screwdrivers into the tool if you have a Dremel or by the tool. The whole the nipple from rotating to be able to tighten the spoke. But if you're at that point usually I change out the Spokane nipple. My first rim with a 1200-watt Hub motor cracked. So I bought a new Rim 12-gauge spokes and nipples.An true the the wheel. Didn't have to use a stand true that on another set of Forks I cut off another bike and turned it into a truing machine. That tool works but if you're doing a whole rim the tool that will fit it is 10 bucks for a single 12 gauge that gives you more leverage easier to turn and adjust prayers for the same price you paid for your tool. But that is a handy tool to have because it has multiple sizes. And some e-bikes we'll 14 gauge in the front and 12 gauge in the rear because of the Hub motor. I've learned so much about e-bikes put on the local repair guy now. Cuz like you said no bicycle shops won't take any electric bikes. Even if that Shop sells electric bikes the only electric bike stable service are the ones they sell. I build bikes off of nice frames. Of existing bikes that people already like. Turn them into a piece of art. I build each one like it's my own. And people love them. Ride safe

    How did you fit a spoke tensioner into the wheels to make sure the spokes were at 12 gauge? Did you use a spoke tensioner?

    • @EbikeEscape

      As far as I know so Rads are still 12 gauge

    How were you able to put those tires on the radwagon without the bike tire buckling with a passenger the rim is a “crotched rim” i went with the super moto x 26x2.40 which bike mechanic recommended to go higher than the stock 26x2.30 kenda krad tires

      I don't believe we rode in winter with a passenger on the studded tires. Not sure if it would be an issue though.

    • @sundaydiver
      @sundaydiver Před 3 lety

      Correct. The Rad Wagon 4 is spec'd with 12 gauge spokes. That said, the Rad Wagon underwent a pretty extensive redesign last year. I'm pretty sure this is the older model. Could it be that it used 13-gauge spokes?

  • @stephenthroop6376

    I've always checked for loose spokes by pitch. Adjusting one will affect others, so i want them all to sound about the same when I'm through.

      I just go around with a tension tool and tighten it til light pressure does not turn it anymore. may be a 1/16 turn sometimes.
      Just want it to be tensioned fully. after i true the wheel that is. always some spokes that are not fully under tension.

    • @EbikeEscape

      Should still be counter clockwise. You should feel it getting tighter.

  • @69tytyhar

    you can't just randomly tighten and loses spokes?? they all have to be tightened to a certain degree you need a truing stand if you do not have one use zipties if you randomly tighten spokes like you your gonna have a wobble in your rim

      The traditional rules don’t really hold true for hub motor e-bikes. You could completely true the wheel and because of the force of the hub motor, it will not say true for very long. So, the advice here makes sense-just periodically check and tighten your spokes, which is better than having loose spokes. There is even another e-bike maker called Pedego who has a video on this.
