      That is indeed absurd. Neither were great defenders. I know Bird is 3x All-Defense but I’m not sure about those particular voting results.
      However, with Bird’s superior intelligence, toughness and anticipation he was the superior team defender. KD the better man-to-man defender.
      Defense between the two overall is a wash in my opinion.
      Bird’s a far better passer, a much better rebounder, a slightly better FT-shooter (check their playoff %s) and only a smidge behind KD as a scorer.
      It’s not the rings that make Bird a better winner, either.
      Bird was a leader. KD was not.
      Simple as that.

    2 championships on a small market team that had never won before definitely means much more than doing the same on a team like Lakers, that you know sooner or later will do it again.
    Denver, Milwalkee, these teams can go half a century without a ring, Lakers, at worst, a couple of decades, for a variety of reasons.

      Stop saying small market. Just because Denver isn't part of the coastal elite snobbery, it is still top 16 media market. Will they ever command the same attention as the Lakers or Knicks or Celtics? Nope. The NBA cannot afford to let that happen, and I'm aware of that...but your argument is really weak. Hack a Shaq...when you can only make half your free throws, you should be practicing your free throws. The Joker gets disrespected since his game is not flashy. Jordan, Russell, Kareem, Magic, Duncan, LeBron, Bird, Shaq, Wilt. Nobody is getting in that top 9 unless they win 3 titles as their team’s best player. If Jokic wins this year, he’ll jump KD, Steph, Kobe, and Hakeem and be #10. If he 3 peats, then we’re talking major shake up in the top 10. At that point, he jumps Shaq and Bird and will be #7 as he will then have the same number of MVPs and titles as Bird, but will have 1 more FMVP. Oscar/west not in top 10 with 1 title each. Steph and Kobe don’t get full credit for titles won with a superior talent on their roster and who stole their FMVPs. Titles matter most. FMVP next, and regular season awards 3rd.

    • @margincharge3657
      @margincharge3657 Před měsícem +1

      Also - you can’t leave Russell and Wilt out of basketball history. Wilt and Russell were known as the two best players ever until Kareem and magic and bird started winning multiple titles. Then Jordan came along. Then Hakeem and Shaq and duncan and LeBron. There hasn’t been enough dominance thus far to push either one of those guys out of the top 10. And zero of those top 10 guys were as dominant as Russell was except for Jordan. Doesn’t matter what era they played in, they still had all time great talent in those eras. For Dan to suggest you can dismiss that all time great talent shows a lack of understanding and a lack of respect. If those guys would have grown up in this era, they still would have been great.
