- No, it's not made by Vekoma or Arrow Dynamics in spite of similarities to looping coasters made by both companies. Dragon was built by O.D. Hopkins in 1991 and is one of the only double loopers with a figure eight in its layout.
This Adventureland is located near Des Moines in Altoona, Iowa.
This is the exact same video as the Dragon 3D front seat on-ride POV video we posted for those that cannot view the 3D version on their phone or tablet. Here's the link to the 3D video we posted: • Dragon 3D front seat o...

This is the rollercoaster you build in Rollercoaster Tycoon when you have $2000 left and need to squeeze some cash out of guests to stay afloat
This was my first roller coaster ever...oh the memories
I haven't rode this ride in 2 years bones crushing and headband ride it's a piece of junk and needs to go it's one of the worst roller coasters I've ever ridden so far
I miss the Dragon SO MUCH, not because it was a great ride but because of the nostalgia of just seeing it and hearing the sound of it going up the lift hill, if that makes any sense. For Iowa the lift hill sound was an icon.
It hurts like hell, I can tell you that much.
I rode this rollercoaster and I closed my eyes the whole time. Came to see what it looked like.
Who else has ridden the Monster? I rode front seat
Oh dear the rust is real...
Imagine a repaint on this thing. Bright blue track, black supports, maybe some Led light strips up the lift hill and new trains. This thing could be decent.
🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀 Dragon is gone 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
After 30 years, the dragon has finally reached the end of its service life and has officially been demolished.
R.I.P. The Dragon (1990 - 2019) 🐉🪦 I actually rode on this at least once back in 2016 during my very first visit here in this park, and it was a pretty smooth ride there, even with the traditional style looping roller coaster trains. I'm quite skeptical about going on the new Dragon Slayer that will open in next year after they finish construction, and just watched the concept video. I was there recently and saw this coaster being dismantled and they looked like they were about halfway through the demo'ing. The good news, I was shopping in the gift shops and bought a mug as a memorial for this ride that is now just a relic of the past. Yes, rides can age over time and when repairs become less cost-effective as time goes by.
Did I just see 2 loops and a return to the load station? As a seasoned vortex veteran, I'm offended that this ride didn't beat the crap out of its riders for a longer period of time. 🤣
I have been on this ride so many times, but I don't remember it being so rusty!
Does anyone remember when Hopkins was making rides like these?
Just made this in no limits 2. Building all adventureland roller coasters.
i never rode the Dragon before it closed because it just looked so intimidating to me, even though i love the Monster, but i’ll always miss the familiar and nostalgic sound of the train going on the uphill at
This coaster was my first experience as a loop. Sad to hear it's gone, but I'm looking forward to a smoother ride.
So sad that this got torn down. However, I am excited for Dragon Slayer in 2021!
The pre-ride is awesome!
