I could remember several years ago, I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Was actually diagnosed with cptsd. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. This is something that really need to be use globally to help people with related health challenges.

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.

I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.

One of my favorite sayings about mental health and specifically anxiety is: Genetics load the gun and environment pulls the trigger. You can can be predisposed to mental health battles but grow up in a healthy atmosphere and never experience these issues. On the other hand grow up in chaos and you’re likely to manifest some sort mental health issues. Take care of your children folks…love them, support them give them the tools that you didn’t have. Glad Joe and Theo addressed this topic, it is often swept under the rug.

As an older adult, I learned a valuable lesson. I saw this in myself and many others. If you are faced with a problem that you don't know how to solve and don't have the tools or knowledge to solve it, you will become anxious. If you stay in that situation day after day, you will be trained to immediately become anxious. Think of a teacher demanding homework or testing on subjects that weren't properly taught. Or a boss or client who are unable to explain their needs but will hold you responsible anyway. Once in a while, it happens, but if it's every day, you have to change the dynamic. Get away if you can't fix it. This isn't good for you long term.

I've never been diagnosed but I clearly have constant anxiety. And it makes sense when I'm told stories after my mom passed in 2021. Being smuggled into a country at night on a boat, doesn't help. My mom lived with anxiety all the time. It's so obvious now. She was always on the move, couldn't stay still, had to be doing SOMETHING all the time. She hated staying home too. She would push me and my brother so much. Eventually my brother started studying medicine and shit and was telling my mom what she was dealing with and to see a doctor.
She tried to change but ultimately stayed in her ways until the end. Love her so much. Best person I've ever known, hands down. Best mother I could've hoped for. But yeah, she passed down this anxiety.
I'm always thinking too much and it lead to being diagnosed with depression, taking meds, etc. No wonder I can't stand still either. Boredom gives me anxiety.

Theo hit the nail on the head with his explanation of depression and SSRIs, for me at least! I just switched from Zoloft to Wellbutrin earlier this month (I was having annoying side effects), but an SSRI basically keeps your head above water, and creates a baseline for you. You still have to do the work to maintain your physical health and even your mental health to an extent, but without it, it’s like there’s an anchor tied to your leg that makes it 10x harder to stay afloat.

I've been prescribed medication and sometimes even prescribed medications that would create worse effect when working with one another. Like your guest said , it's like a constant battle throughout the day. I can still do what I have to , but over time it does take alot of confidence to push through. Disapline improved my depression significantly, I had force myself to do things i would have rathered not doing.
And no, you’re weak for not having discipline, It’s a learned skill, Just like climbing a mountain is a learned skill, Not being able to climb doesn’t make you less valuable than anyone, It’s okay.

I hate taking meds but im struggling after my wife passed. Maybe i should go back to my dr and start taking paxil again. It definitely helps me i just start feeling better and think i dont need it. I've been taking the same as Theo for the last 6 years and I find it near impossible to taper off. It's really great to hear such an authentic point of view and to know that I'm not the only one that is dealing with this. I mean, I know I'm not, but hearing him talk about it in so much detail that mirrors my feelings in such intricate detail, it was really an "uh huh!" moment for me. 2:18 resonated with me to the core. Thank you very much for sharing Theo.

Neural connections are formed through traumatic experiences which literally rewires your brain and gene combinations pass this down.
You’ve got a huge nerve running from your brain to your gut, heart and lungs which can heighten emotional responses.

I want to be tougher and be able to be proactive in taking care of my mental health, but when you’re really in a rut it’s hard to gain motivation to do anything. I’ve already noticed a huge difference in my outlook on life and feel a lot better equipped moving forward to take care of myself, not allow myself to overthink too much etc. I’m on a low dose so hopefully I can stop taking them at some point and move forward with a better mindset.

Sometimes when you try to find an answer to a problem that basically has no solution, it causes anxiety. That prolonged anxiety then leads to depression. Been there done that unfortunately.. I agree that beyond genetics it can be a learned response from your parents actions in dealing with their problems.

Anxiety, from my personal experience, is not something you get rid of. It's something you learn to mitigate and live with but it will always be there. I've gotten panic attacks where the trigger was the idea that it's possible for me to have a panic attack. Once you have one you're more likely to have another. It's a never ending cycle. Learning coping strategies is your best defense against them. Getting diagnosed with them was a great thing for me because I learned that I wasn't in fact dying and was actually dealing with something that thousands upon thousands of people deal with everyday. Having the ability to go "I'm having a panic attack right now, let's just get through this and it will eventually stop" is a great tool to have in your toolbox in the fight against anxiety.

But I continued being off of them and stood that way cause I realized it was making it worse than before I took them, while I was on them daily though, I felt like happy but for no reason. Then I started doing shrooms the correct way and man was that the best decision I could have taken (not encouraging people to take them, it’s my experience) but yea the difference being that shrooms made me understand and see the ‘why’ I was in a bad mental space, and made me see it in a different light. I put off taking medication for years, and blamed myself for not being hard enough, which in turn made me more depressed and then I'd stop working out and it was viscous cycle.

I love Theo! He is so authentic and endearing. Zoloft is simply Teflon in a pill for the hyper sensitive. My brother was a casualty of an NPD mother. Not due to genetics but trauma since infancy....I was there. As an infant I was farmed off to my mother's patient parents which saved me. Trauma and abuse will damage any soul.

I think us sufferers of depression have been traumatised too much in life and can’t find a way to get any comfort. If people have hurt you, you stop seeking their embrace and genuine love is important for survival. Plus the world is a total shit show right now. Just do your best and be kind to yourself and others. ❤

I'm pretty sure I have anxiety. Because when I wake up thats when I feel weird and in some situations I just feel weird.
But I remember watching this video of Alex Hormozi wife (Leila) and she said that she woke up with all of these feelings (anxiety, doubt etc) but she ignored them and went on with her day.
After I watched that video that shift my whole perspective. I genuinely try in lifet. I try to be the best dad, best man, employee, business owner, I try on my fitness and everything.
As long as I'm trying in life I ignore my negative thoughts and feelings and move on.
I just use pure logic to get through my days and not how I "feel"

I'm 1.5 hours in so far and Theo has hit the smelling salts several times, talked about hitting a cigarette last week, how hard it is for him to not vape after quitting a week ago and "let's try that" when Joe mentions some other drug. I've hung around with open mic-ers before and was good friends with an established stand up that Rogan knows well and the scene is not a great place for someone that suffers with addiction. Theo seems like such a caring person and I feel like he has some major demons that won't let him escape. Hope he can survive them.

I would say get off his back but talking about sobriety on his show so much is bound to attract you judgemental people. Look no one cares what you do or dont put in your body, making it your main personality trait is annoying to everyone. Just stop. Plus at LEAST half you hypocrites still live on caffiene, sugars, and porn/tv/video game addictions.

@@Joe-sg9ll Not really. Comedy is last place in showbis for a narcissist since you are exposed to direct criticism. Joe managed since he has a podcast but look at his pal Brendan, another narc, he was torn to shreds by the public.

@@Joe-sg9ll Yeah but not all comedians are on SSRIs man. Bill Burr, Louis CK both masterful comedians, both had traumas in their childhood as we all do but neither is on SSRIs nor a narcissist. Its clear Theo had some bad stuff and Joe Rogan. You have very shallow understanding of narcissism and you think every person in a spotlight is there because they are narcissists which simply isnt true.

@@Joe-sg9ll My parents are narcissists too so I am a bad person? Narcissism is a buzz word thats being thrown around but proper NPD is not. I dont have it because I didnt have any major trauma in my childhood but siblings did and they have it. I know all about this stuff. Bottom line is, people with NPD are represented in all walks of life, it doesnt guarantee success in anything quite contrary the people I know who have it are quite unsuccesful in their lives like really poor jobs, no powet or authority but they crave it and they exude as much power over others as they possibly can, they take whatever adoration and respect they can draw in because they so desparately need it.

My doctor prescribed me Xoloft over a year ago and even he didn’t sound super convinced it would fix my issues. After 8 months it was ok but still lots of trade offs and insomnia. I stopped taking them and tried mushrooms, I micro dose regularly and macro dose every few weeks. No more prescriptions, I feel amazing. I had a follow up with my doctor after a year to see if my mental health improved since it was covered by insurance. I told my dr I stopped the prescriptions and turned to shrooms. He was actually happy and told me his thesis was on psilocybin and mental health. He supported me doing shrooms which is not what I was expecting.

Wow didnt know Theo was on SSRIs. I'm on them too and it just numbs me out. It does help me to halt overthinking, but if youre not doing things outside of SSRIs, itll just put you to sleep. Exercise has been very helpful. Theo's honesty ❤
