    Your HV warnings are spot on...hams today who want to experience the boat anchor days have to be very careful. I was building a Novice transmitter in high school electronics shop and one day got across the B+ and found myself half-way across the room; one hand in back pocket rule learned the hard way! And the MOX "fault" has caught me at least once myself when working on both tube and solid state HF rigs. A tech who admits their mistakes is ok in my book, good job Stefan! 73 - Dino KLØS (PS - in the U.S. Army it was RTFM, you can imagine the letter meanings!)

    Stefan, I have been learning how to use the FT-101zd I got from my father just before he died. I got a good EE to look it over. He recapped and aligned it. Another EE friend, recently a SK, taught me how to tune it. I normally use an FT-891 in my station. I am learning CW and want to use the FT-101 for it. Your example of tuning the transceiver has helped me understand the manual much better. I am keen to watch your video on the details of tuning the rig. Thank you. Bob KA6REL

    Good day. Very interesting video. The processor on my 101zD does not work. It’s not this problem though. More importantly the CW transmit seems to only give me a full key down when I am sending CW or trying to like something is stuck. Radio loads up fine and output power is good. SSB works fine ( except processor and I can live with that )

    What is the minimum power output? I'm only on foundation license and I'm wondering if it has variable power down to 10 watts thanks in advance.

    • @dl7majstefan753
      @dl7majstefan753  Před rokem +1

      Yes, it has a power output settable down to nearly zero. But to achieve constant and non drifting 10W in SSB and CW, this unit isn´t designed for! The output will vary with temperature of the components, so you have to measure and control the output permanently. The ALC is set to 100W, with 10W you are below the ALC threshold and have no stabilisation.

      @@dl7majstefan753 Many thanks Stefan. I will think twice before the acquisition of an old equipment like that. I will keep following your channel and will make my mind about a more modern transceiver. The prices in Brazil are always much more than in Europe or North America. The taxes for electronic imports were always sky high (and we were a much poorer country back then, not too many people to make an acquisition like that). Nowadays, the taxes for the electronics goods are around 100%, including the cost of the shipment...

    Hello Stefan, Thank you for this nice video. I have an FT-101ZD since 1985. What I see in this moment, it some small frequency shifting of the VFO which is unstable even after 30 minutes warm up. It desappears when I push one time from the VFO to the CH1 switch for example (switch bloc located under the VFO). Did you already hear about this unstable frequency on the FT-101ZD ? It seems that this issue is known..... Thanks a lot. 73's. Stephane.

The best would be to check the 6V after the switch when it happens...... I keep you informed...🙂 Stephane.
