Brian Collins Sigh... if you knew anything about the guy you’d know he suffers from severe anxiety which is why he is so convincing in mind losing roles... I don’t think that aspect is acting, it’s how he really is. Listen to his acting techniques from interviews, his performances are more about being present in the moment than anything else. His anxieties elevate his conflict more than anything else which is why he gravitated toward “losing mind” roles more. It’s because he’s already a little coo coo in the head. So if anything he’s acting very little outside of his own persona. The best actors are themselves in the present moment making you THINK they’re “acting” when they’re just being themselves. Joaquin Phoenix literally sounds like Joaquin Phoenix in EVERY SINGLE ROLE and yet no one noticed. 🤣
I've always loved Joaquin Phoenix as an actor. The extreme intensity and melancholy in his acting is unparalleled in my opinion. A highly emotional actor.

mckernan1987 that was a tough competitive year for Best Actor in 2012. That year Joaquín was up against Denzel Washington for the film Flight and Daniel Day Lewis for the film Lincoln. They gave the Oscar to Daniel Day Lewis but I agree in my opinion Joaquín should have won Best Actor for The Master!
How that movie only got actor nominations is baffling to me.
Because 'The Master' is way too much enigmatic, smart and demanding movie for average Academy member to handle, that's why. They give awards to safe Oscar bait movies instead, many of them are already forgotten by now.

He is brilliant in Gladiator. Unforgattable Commodus.
Commodus was as vulnerable as he was vicious which ,in turn, gave him a level of complexity rarely seen in most villains. Joaquin took something that could've been cliched, fleshed it out and took it in some surprising new directions.

I know River is looking down on his little brother and is so proud of all the movies he has made and all the success he has achieved..
He plays "crazy" pretty well. In We Own The Night, he had hints of darkness. I can't shake the feeling that he'd make a great Joker adaptation. I don't know how his laugh would work, but his scar on his upper lip and his charisma make me think he'd pull it off wonderfully.

Yes, I knew when I saw the trailer for Joker he would be phenomenal. But then again, he always disappears into his characters completely.
If his brother, River was still alive, the Phoenix name would be one of the hottest in the movie business history. River has kinda been forgotten, doesn't come up that often and many people have no idea that these two were brothers.
