- Cuban Sees Snow for First Time and its an emotional snow reaction. Snow reactions are usually for kids, but after living on a socialist Caribbean island for 36 years, this moment means so much to us.
We went up to Big Bear Lake, CA to film one of the last snow storms. We are so incredibly grateful for all of you that have watched our journey.

What else should we do!? - Zábava
I'm 56 years old and have lived in Florida my entire life. I saw snow for the 1st time last week in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was an emotional experience to me. I can understand what Yoel is feeling.
That’s the hardest part of being a Cuban.
All the people you know you will not see ever again. Grandparents, ants& uncles, cousins and childhood friends.
It’s hard.
I am also 56 years old & live in the middle of the USA & have always seen pictures of the white sandy beaches in Florida but have never seen it with my own eyes. But my sister & I are planning to go to Destin in mid-September. Seeing white sand with my own eyes has been on my bucket list for most of my life. I might be as excited seeing it in person as Yoel was to see snow!!
I'm in Toronto,we do not get as much snow as we use to get until about 2000,this winter we got more than usual, but usually 3 times a year I have to shovel small amounts,I love the snow even at 62.I lived in Vancouver,in 1999,the temp on Christmas day was 14C,I told my ex,not digging this warm weather, she new I wanted to go home,it was done in 2 months.
I’ve lived in Florida now for 49 years, but I’ve traveled to 15 different countries and 43 of the states. You kind of have to get out more. That’s what I’ve learned.
@@MH-wm6df I've been all over the place...just never saw snow.
Through Yoel's eyes us Americans really see what we take for granted every day. Yoel, your dreams are coming true to experience everything in America. There will be many more experiences to come in the future. Please keep on smiling and have fun while you are at it. More adventures and smiles to come.
We do take it for granted.
You got that right
Thank you so much for these words. People don’t even realize that the common person can save a little money and just travel enough to do things like this for leisure. In places like cuba and around many countries in the world, leaving your little town is never an option. We are so blessed here
@@YoelAndMari Soo delighted to share in his first trip to the snow. Sorry I did not hear back from you about “The Persian Room” Persian Restaurant in Scottsdale. My offer is still open anytime. Their rice with Cherries & chicken & beef Kobideh are fantastic.
Well said. That’s probably why I love it so much.
Can we all take a second to give mad props to Yoel for making it down the mountain not once, but twice without falling!
Impresionante hermano!
Que Dios cuide al pueblo cubano.
Incredible!!!!! Finland here. First time down a hill at the age of 10 i belive. i must have fell a bunch of times. 30 years later and i still occasionally fall on my ass at the start of season :D
Only thing he did not know that the best way to manage speed and STOP is the V shape for beginners.
As a Canadian who sees and lives in the snow many months every year, seeing Yoel's joy and appreciation and Mari's love makes me see my surroundings with fresh eyes again. Thank you right back!
Yoel's excitement for everything is magical, he acts like a kid it's so pure. So sad that he had to wait so long for all of these experiences and a shame that it's not an option for so many.
Everybody should have the privilege of appreciating all of God's creation. But I'm not even one that has gotten to appreciate God's tropical creation! And im 63!!!! And I doubt that I ever will. 🙁
@@sharcrum Get a ride, take a plane, board a boat. Jesus walked all over the place.
@@user-ii4zf5iq3t You know, when you think of it like that... you can do something a little different just by walking for a day. My family members talk about how they used to walk, take trains and buses to go to "local" place around CA, NV, and even AZ. I loved listening to those stories and traveling with my family when I was younger. My nieces and nephews travel like crazy all over the world. But, I stopped. Who knows? Maybe I'll start traveling again
The cold air during winter snow with pine trees around smells so refreshing and makes for a deep breath of fresh air. Having something hot like a coffee or Hot Chocolate to sip from a lodge balcony in the winter is indeed a special experience.
You’re a romantic. I love it.
Do not forget wrapping up in a blanket around a fire! Some of my favorite memories!
@@daleeladakus1966 We used to eat fondue by the fireplace and if you dropped your piece of bread you had to kiss everyone of the opposite sex. Some were clumsier than others.
@@user-ii4zf5iq3t HaHa! I love it! Count me in! Sounds better than a mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows and apple pie!
@@daleeladakus1966 My father had a ranch with 2 ½ miles river frontage both sides; 250 acres of huge native pecan trees plus another 335 acres of pastureland and a few hills. He had sold the property and I finally allowed some friends that had begged to let them go fishing in the river. They brought friends too and spent the night camped out under those pecans along the river fishing. A party had loaned me a contraption and said it was for dialing fish. We tried it but no one was fast enough. I got out of the water and tried it and yikes. I was wet. What a shock. I put that up. They brought a couple from Australia. They said they'd never had so much fun. I scratched my head on that one. What is there to do in Australia?
This man is the true definition of what it's like to come here and appreciate how amazing this country is. We should all be learning from this experience.
It's not an achievement of your country. It's snow. It's mother nature and thankfully mother nature doesn't care about these distinctions.
As a person from a state PA. That gets a couple of good snowfalls every year and complains, thank you. You both teach us to appreciate the small things we take for granted.
Sighhhhh unless you’re from Philly. It basically never snows here!
@@NickiDreaE True, I do miss it though. Here's hoping we get some this winter.
Yoel is like a little kid...with his eyes so full of wonder. We Americans must NEVER take these things for granted!! Yoel has taught me that. All the very best!!!!
My thoughts exactly! I live in PA and have long tired of the beauty of snow most of the time. But I admit when it first comes down it is just beautiful- until I have to drive in it. Lol. Thank Yoel for appreciating what we have here including so many different climates in our beautiful country.
I grew up in Washington State and been down there to California a lot, I currently live in Colorado. I remember years ago going to the Caribbean a couple of times and thought that was the most wonderful place in the world. Just a thought, would it be nice if we can solve the political problems between Cuba and the US, things can open up again and enjoy and share both cultures. I can use another Caribbean vacation about now! Just a thought and a dream. I am so glad you guys had so much fun! I was waiting for Yoel to throw a snowball at Mari!
Agreed, it makes me appreciate what we have so much more
Absolutely..well said
Yes we American are pretty good at complaining if we have to pay $20 more to fill up our gas tanks and stuff like that. It takes a fresh look to realize how good we have it.
Adorable...
Even something as simple as seeing your own footprints in the snow, or watching snow melt or fall off of trees, is "new" to him. He's like a giant happy kid in a candy store... ;)
I have seen snow all my life (65 years) and the beauty and magic of watching it fall and make everything so quiet, clean and lovely never gets old. Despite the inconveniences it may cause, I still love and appreciate every snowfall. Nice to see someone else fully appreciate it.
Ditto
Me too.
Growing up in Canada I can tell you it never gets old seeing how beautiful a snowy landscape is. I'm always excited for the first snowfall of the year! I'm happy to have experienced Yoel's first time in the snow with you both. I hope you can take him across the border to visit your neighbours to the North some day!
And while you’re here in 🇨🇦. Make sure to visit the frozen waterfalls in Banff and Jasper Alberta national parks. That’s an amazing sight to see.
Lovely, but I would like to invite him to my place to shovel my driveway, LOL.
Last time we were up in Canada it was behind the wheel of a Volvo tractor/trailer, but it was still a treat to see the snow covered landscape even though we had a couple moments of terror driving on ice. :-)
@@susieq9801 Just ONCE is enough for that experience, lol.
@@billolsen4360 - Sometimes that experience is once a day. 😜
Watching him experience snow with so much joy reminds me of seeing the joy on a child’s face at Christmas. So sweet, so pure.
I was 6 when I arrived in Miami and a few months later we were invited to spend some time with our family in New Jersey. I remember getting to their house from the airport, scooping up a big handful of fresh snow from that very morning and instinctively making a snowball like Yoel and throwing it. My hands burning red, but a smile on my face from ear to ear. Enjoy familia!
I live in Louisiana and his reaction is literally mine every single time I see snow in my life, I cried several times. Earlier this year I traveled up north for the first time in my life to Connecticut and I witnessed my first ever 1 foot of snow. I couldn't stay out of it either, I was always playing with it, and the locals looked at me like I was crazy, I was driving with the windows down with snow falling in my truck. I couldn't stop smiling. I'm definitely moving somewhere where it snows a bunch every year, so the rest of my family can experience it, because I am the only one who has.
As a Connecticut native, screw the snow.
As soon as I retire I'm moving somewhere that I never see another snowflake.
You can come shovel all of my snow if you love it so much 😊
@@TheBpantani I’d gladly do that
Yoel’s such a humble man for all the little things that we take for granted
When I’m watching you two, all I do is smile. It’s such a exciting thing to watch someone experience everything we take for granted. It’s beautiful to watch. Love and appreciation for you both. God love you. 😁🙏❤️
The total and complete innocence of Yoel. Like seeing the snow through a 5 y.o. eyes. And that is a good thing. Thank you for sharing this trip with us...
Thank you too!
Welcome "Home" Yoel. There's so much to see.
I grew up in Germany so we had snow all the time, but I've gotten to travel all over the US. I hope you two get to too. Wow, I used all versions of to in that last sentence 😆
Yoel was a natural skier .. you both sounded very suprised, when he made it down...on his first run down!!!
I Love, going on your guys first time experience vids. They are emotional and heartfelt. This was fantastic Thank You!!
He makes everything that we take for granted seem so wonderful!!
Seeing Yoel appreciate our culture and society makes me feel so good to see the smile on his face. Sadly, so many Americans don't appreciate the small things like touching snow, going to see a football game, baseball game or eating Thanksgiving turkey. I really appreciate your videos and have told others of your channel. Thank you for all your efforts in showing Yoel's reaction to everything
Agree with you but plenty of Americans have not seen snow either. Not to mention there are Americans who have never been to the beach.
Which is UTTERLY insane!! It shows you how insulated americans are. @@nemamodgeddi5338
I came here from Havana, but I was only 3. I don’t have the same perspective, but I appreciate your stories because you allow me to see the reality of Cuba that I can’t remember. For me, it has been more of oral history from my parents and grandparents.
We encourage you to go back home to see it for yourself so you can fully understand your parents sacrifice for you.
@@YoelAndMari beautifully said. I left when I was five. I’m 60 and have never been back. I can’t give those hp one red dime to use against our people. But the way you said this really touched my heart. Love you guys. Dios los bendiga y los ampare y viva cuba libre. Patria y vida!!!!!!!
I grew up in a state where we actually have four seasons. And we had some wonderful winter snows and some that weren’t so great. And without a doubt as I approach 46 years old, my favorite winters are still the ones we get good snowfalls. Snow is my Zen. There’s something so peaceful and pure about snow and snow falling. Snow is cleansing and purifying to me. It’s God’s way of cleansing the earth and showing his bright love for the earth. I love it. Bless you Yoel as you continue to discover the joys of this country and your freedom. ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is incredible! I grew up with snow, and moved somewhere tropical because I was tired of it, but seeing Yoel's reaction brought me back to when I was a child making snowmen, and igloos. Sledding an snow ball fights. Thank you for the new appreciation, gratitude, and memories.
Thank you haney!!! It was very emotional for us. This moment meant soooo much
@Yoel And Mari ; That was pretty good for never having been on skis before! Now go and learn how to ski via some lessons - you will not believe just how much fun it is!
I live in San Diego. Best of both worlds. BEAUTIFUL near perfect weather all year round. But 2 hours away is an equally gorgeous Big Bear Mountain. 😉 You can surf and snowboard on the same day. 🏂 🏄♂️

@@tiffanypalmer9918 I loved doing that in So Cal. Hang out on the beach during the day in a bathing suit then take a relatively short drive, throw on shorts/pants and a sweatshirt and do some night skiing. I miss it so much.
Y’all did so well skiing ⛷ for the 1st time!! What an amazing experience for you both! Loved 🥰 this!
Thanks so much!!
This wonderful young couple keeps reminding us how fortunate we are. I wish more Cubans could come here, and I hope they both become American citizens.
My steps sons came to Canada when they were 12 and 16. They had never seen snow before. The first time it snowed, they were out in the backyard playing in it. It was so cute to see. They had such a great time.
I remember the first time I saw snow and went skiing in Colorado! It was a bunch of crazy Cubans going downhill 😂🥰
😂
Awww I would have loved to see that. It must have been pure joy just to watch you all 😊
This is my favorite video. I cried when he saw the snow for the first time. I live in a place where it snows regularly, and I forget how beautiful it can be. Thank you for reminding me!
Yoel's experience just reminds me to not take our lives in this Great country for granted! Thank you to you both! ❤
I can honestly say that I hate snow, but seeing his reaction having seen it for the first time in his life, does give me a little more appreciation of that first snow in the winter. The seemingly inocus things that you are introducing him to are incredible. I wish you both well in this incredible journey. It is amazing watching this "through his eyes".
I never saw snow and I am 19
@@SK-ch7ik thats such a crazy thing to think about as a canadian. i see it everyday. its even snowing outside right now. i always talk about how much i hate snow and how cold it is but after reading some of these comments and watching this video i really take it for granted.

Born and raised Alaskan. It's all I ever knew. We left Alaska at forty years old. It's the first time I saw 118 degrees. I completely understand Yoel's reaction. I miss Alaska so much. I miss fishing. I miss sitting outside on our deck and hearing the snowflakes hit the trees. The peace and quiet. There's nothing like it in the world. I'm so happy for him. Enjoy every moment!
I feel like an idiot for being a 56 year old man fully sobbing for 2 people I,ve never met and probably will never meet. Could you even imagine being Yoels age and seeing things that we Americans don't give a second thought about? I get so emotional watching Yoel get emotional and then I get emotional seeing how Marì reacts to Yoel. It's really so beautiful to watch. We need millions more Americans like those two!!!
I usually say this to be funny but I'm being 100% genuine when I say you two are doing the lord's work! Thank you and God bless the both of you!
I love to see the joy in his face when he gets to experience the things we think are just another day. So much more to come.
This was by far one of our most special experiences yet! But you guys decide what should we do next?!
Do a Mexican food reaction video!
Authentic street tacos!
Take him swimming at a water park!
Go to the grand canyon
Yellowstone National Park would be awesome!!! I'd love to see your reactions to that beautiful place!
His child like excitement and wonder is so heart warming!! You both deserve so much happiness!!
What a wonderful experience for Yoel. Love seeing how happy seeing snow made him. The scenery there is beautiful. 🙂🇨🇦👍
I'm so happy for you!! I grew up in south Florida. My family was very poor and we couldn't afford to travel far. I didn't see snow for the first time until I was in my thirties. My reaction was much the same as yours.
I smiled so hard through this whole video. Your happiness is infectious!
Yoel's expressions are so child-like, so magical, so pure!! I love this channel!! I hope y'all have many more great adventures!! Alot of people in this country take so much for granted..Awesome channel!!
I absolutely love that whenever I see a video of a grown man seeing snow for the first time, 9 times out of 10, they make a snow angel! The pure joy and childlike excitement is palpable and makes me appreciate the beauty in the snow that I've grown up seeing every year.
It's so incredible to see his excitement. Snow is my favorite weather and even at age 63, I still get excited.
You two bring me so much joy. Gracias 💕
His reaction makes me so happy. This is what gratitude looks like. This is how everyone should feel every day. Life is a gift.
Yoel did amazing for his first time skiing. He was a natural.
I smile till it hurts every time I watch you. Thank you for reminding us (even here in South Africa) to be thankful for everything. Keep it coming guys. And your lives are going to be beautiful! 💜
Yeah...congratulations Joel...great job at skiing! Loved and cried when Joel stepped and played and marvelled at the snow for his very first time. Beautiful! Welcome Joel😍👏👏👍
I love that he is so happy
I so remember watching in college one of my class mates that was from Nigeria, Africa. The first time it snowed in Garden City, KS. He was just like Yoel. He was in his short and a shirt running around and playing in his first snow. God love you both, and bless the life your are having!
I wanted to see more of Yoel skiing. He's a natural. Hopefully you go a couple more times next season and see how he advances. Good for him!
As always, love for my kids. Again I want to congratulate Yoel for his improvement in English. I particularly appreciated the very American "This is really fucking cool, man." So proud.. OH!! And who, who has never seen snow, goes down a ski slope multiple times without falling?..........Right? Love you two.
I am glad Yoel finally had the opportunity to play in the snow. His reaction is like a little child. My Mum is from Australia & she would tell me what it was like for her to see snow for the first time & be able to throw snowballs. Her first snowstorm when driving home from the city was very scary. Nothing’s as beautiful as when it first falls. It’s so quiet and beautiful.
I got tears in my eyes when he was so delighted at his footprints in the snow like a child. 😭
I admire that Yoel appreciate the little things that we as an Americans take for granted !
Thank you, Mari, for seeing our homeland, for appreciating our diversity, for reminding us of our blessings.
I went to college in Northern Illinois, and my roommate was from Puerto Rico. I'll never forget her reaction when she saw snow for the first time.

It’s been incredible documenting it all
I love seeing everything through Yoel's eyes! Makes it completely new again for me!

These great adventures make me cry! Thank you, Mari and Yoel, for bringing the joy of innocence and gratitude to us. One of your Texas fans!
Amazing! So cool to see it through both your eyes. I can't even begin to describe how many times I shoveled snow from a huge, long sidewalk and triple wide driveway. It was hard work but I always managed to enjoy it somehow. The fresh smell and quiet of a cold snowy Colorado winter morning is unspeakably beautiful! 🥰

Love you guys! Blessings.
As someone who just found your channel recently, and lives in New England (Northeast united states), this really warmed my heart. We have beautiful mountains and forests that are blanketed with snow every year, and it holds a special place in my heart growing up with snow and winter activities. Glad you checked off another dream Yoel y Mari
There's nothing like taking in a deep deep breath and feeling that air fill your lungs. Clean and pure. I love wintertime in the mountains
i was about 13 when i first saw snow , (from florida) and my dad was past 40 the first time he saw snow. i used to think it was like a fairy tale like not real like Santa clause. i cant imagine how you must feel. i was out it in it so long i couldnt even turn the door knob, and it was like 3 am, and i remember some guy being like in the apt complex "what is this the first time seeing snow" and i just said yes laughed alot and threw crudely made snowballs at my dad lul.hope you love it i hated it after the third time tbh XD.
Finally, it’s time for the snow and lodge episode!
We can’t wait.
Living in Michigan this is me every single winter. I don’t understand why everyone is not as mesmerized with snow as I am. I’m glad to find a kindred spirit!
Wow! Yoel! You skied so well for the first time! Unbelievable! Good job!
As a Canadian, I always think it's weird to see newcomers enjoying the snow....You can always tell when a person is still new because the novelty of frozen water falling out of the sky is still apparent. It's something that a person learns to hate pretty quickly.
Was just about to comment that I live in Minnesota and I couldn't be happier to finally be getting some warm weather to get the F rid of this godforsaken snow and ice.
Though I get his point. Even I still find some magic in that first snowfall of the year. But now it's mid March and I'm over it. Way, way over it.
I am from Minnesota too and know that clearing driveways, scraping windows, and the bitter face freezing cold can be a drag, but there are winter activities that people take joy in. In Minnesota there is the Winter Carnival in the city of St Paul where in past decades they built an absolutely giant Ice Castle each year out of blocks of ice for the Carnival and there is Ice carving contests and all kind of refreshments and social activities. Many people like to sled, ski, play hockey, and Ice fish in winter weather.
I'm on the east coast of Canada. I agree 100% with you. I dream of seeing beaches down south
I’m in Maine. Same!
After 46 years in Michigan, I can’t romanticize snow.
Let him shovel the sidewalk or scrape ice from the windshield. That’ll change his love of snow immediately. I say that in good fun…I’m so happy for him. He deserves it.
Yoel has athletic skills he never knew he had. He has not explored all the things his body can do yet.
Wow! You did so much better than I did on my first time skiing.
Right?! I WAS SHOCKED!! to be fair he did fall down a few times after this but I didn’t get the chance to record it (let me tell you it’s hard skiing and recording from a phone at the time time lol)
