A cool note about the Sindarin rulers who came to rule over Silvan elves of Mirkwood & Lorien is that they set out to become more like the Silvan people. Tolkien says:
“They were soon merged with the Silvan Elves, adopting their language and taking names of Silvan form and style. This they did deliberately… They wished indeed to become Silvan folk and to return, as they said, to the simple life natural to the Elves before the invitation of the Valar had disturbed it.”
Interesting it's as if more elves beyond Feanor and his kin held contempt for the Valar and not without cause
What you see from the rulers of Mirkwood and Lorien is a pattern of many rulers of new dynasties throughout history where some would attempt to assimilate with their new domain where as others would seek to impose their will upon their new realm
Also what's the title of your outro theme?
I wonder if the men of Numenor who remained faithful sought to impose their culture upon the men of Middle Earth or followed the examples of the elven realms it could make for an interesting lore video

Until now I'm still trying find out what happened to Nimrodel and her companion Mithrellas, someone who composed that lay of Nimrodel must have a first hand account of the event but must have returned to north while Nimrodel remained at edhellond for a while... What happened to them? Did they sought other haven? Did they find some other peaceful stream south of white mountains? Or did they ultimately died along the way while going to another haven? Unfortunately Tolkien did not bother to elaborate and it just perfectly added that mysterious charm to the story of the already tragic lovers,
It's really cool how much we as a species appreciate stories of greatness and beauty, even fictional ones.

I haven't forgotten how peaceful and ambient Lothlorien is. Everytime you walk through the halls, you can hear the elves singing in a choir.

@@paulbrickler Yes - this is Tolkien's amazing gift. I can't put it into words, but he makes these beautiful places just come alive and seem so hauntingly real. It's heart-moving in its power. And Lothlorien is the most haunting of all. I find myself just yearning for it to exist, or for something *like* it to exist.

@@shinichigojir12 Hi! Some of the character models are showing age, and sometimes it's a bit slow, or need to play around with settings on a new computer. But I think it's totally worth it! They're still expanding it and giving updates to it even now. The world is so huge. There's so much lore. And the exploration of the different regions is top-notch. The visuals of the scenery and the atmosphere are beautiful, as is the music soundtrack.

Doriath sounds great to me, but I don’t think Thingol was the best ruler. Too many personality flaws. So I’m thinking Rivendell. I think Elrond would have been more my type of ruler. Lothlorien for vacation.

One of your best and most beautiful treatments. The tale of Nimrodel and Amroth especially is rarely retold, and your recitation of Legolas's remembered poem is poignant. This small offshoot of Greenwood the Great was the closest in beauty to Valinor than any other place in Middle-earth. I imagine that Nimrodel still wanders alone, sadly, among its abandoned trees, which were a home and sanctuary to many great elves, men, Maiar-and Hobbits-of old.
Sadly Nimrodel had not gone back to the land she had known...and nothing is known of her fate after she reached the haven to south and foundt out what happened to Amroth...but someone who first compose that song of Nimrodel must have a first hand account of what happened and returned north while Nimrodel stayed for a while there before going elsewhere
The writing of Tolkien never cease to amaze me more and more, the poetry/ story telling is amazing.
Lothlorien will always hold a special place in my heart.
The Sylvain elves have always interested me so much more than any others, wish there was a huge amount of lore on them.
Epilogue about Nimrodel’s legacy in Gondor: “At length they came to the Prince Imrahil, and Legolas looked at him and bowed low; for he saw that here indeed was one who had elven-blood in his veins. ‘Hail, lord!’ he said. ‘It is long since the people of Nimrodel left the woodlands of Lórien, and yet still one may see that not all sailed from Amroth’s haven west over water.’

This. This sort of small lore drop with significant implications is precisely the kind of thing that makes fiction feel deeper and more immersive.

In the drafts of The Lord of the Rings Tolkien was unsure whether time of the outside world "froze" while the Fellowship stayed in Lorien, changing his mind twice; according to the first scheme the Fellowship had left Lorien and passed Sarn Gebir already on 21 January. Eventually he decided that time passes normally, and had to adjust the dates and the routes of the characters, later changing their departure to 14 February and eventually 16 February (taking into account the full moon of 7 March). In the published book, the characters instead have lost their subjective sense of time after leaving Lorien.
I love the lore of the Mallory seeds which comes from the Dunedain of Numenor gifts to the High King Gilgalad.
Great video, as usual. One correction: In LoTR, "Lothlorien" is translated as "Dreamflower". So, the "lorien" part of the name is indeed a reference to the Valinorian realm of Lorien, not to thhe word for golden, "laure"", as in "Laurelindorinan", as you correctly note, "Valley of the Singing Gold".

Thanks, I appreciate the thought and care that went into this video. I always found the story of Amroth and Nimrodel puzzling for a number of reasons. How could two people so devoted to each other become separated before reaching the havens? The Elves of the ship Amroth was on saw him leap into the water, but who on shore would know he did so and never made it? And biggest question of all, what happened to Nimrodel?
Once the storm passed, the ship could have returned, or perhaps they made landfall on one of the islands or even stopped in at the Grey Havens before taking the Straight Road. After all, they were leaving Middle Earth for ever, and parting from any they knew for what could easily be thousands of years - even for elves, that's a significant parting, and not something to rush. There are other ways word could have come, but there seems little to cause the Valar to take a hand, and the Palantiri belonged to men, and, while the elves are hinted to have some ability to share thoughts from afar, the ability to pass news (particularly without the aid of a Ring or some other device) appears to be absent. The mundane explanation - that the elves aboard ship stopped in somewhere to leave word of their last sight of Amroth - seems the most likely.
Every video that notr puts out, always seems to end so beautifully sadly. I tear up every single time. Thank you for what you do.

It wasnt really the land of his people, who i believe were sindar as it seems most elves of character, king thingol luthien & probably the elen blood of mellian, however Lothlorien would be pale if compared to Lorien in valinar

2. Sindar are Teleri by origin and Silvan elves are also Teleri by origin.
3. We don't know who was Legolas' mother. She might be from Silvan elves.

Almost Buddhist like way what? Last time I looked he didn't really like those kinds of doctrines and preferred Catholic traditions and they were a bases of many of his inspirations about good vs evil.
@Thor's Hammer Firstly Tolkien, although he practiced a Christian religion, Arda is a pantheist creation, incoporating many philosophies and spiritual notions. The universe is not boiled down to "Catholic". Secondly the idea that 'suffering' is a buddhist spiritual 'doctrine' only would not take account for the suffering also being a common theme in Christianity or Judaisim. Suffering is spread throughout the main Tolkien narratives and all religions address this in some way. I refer to Buddhism specifically because the Buddha expressed a particular trope of grasping for unchange as being the main source of suffering in life.

I wouldn't nessesarily call it pantheis. As the Valar and Ainur don't really have creative powers. Only Eru Iluvatar has the power of creation. Similar to Yahuah and Yahusha Elohim in the Bible is the only one who can create. Yah is the only creator.
The Valar have slightly more grounded powers and though they can give things already created into a specific form but only with the permission of Eru Iluvatar not by their own will. And Morgoth didn't really create he used preexisting elements and lifeforms and he corrupted and defiled these already existing creations into his own wicked and lawless intentions and designs.
So they aren't really like "gods or demi gods" in the pagan sense they have more in common with angelic beings if anything else. Though angels in the Bible have alot more rules and restrictions they have to abide by according to Yahuah's laws of creation which he is very firm and enforcing about and with good reason.
So to me though is it definitely true Tolkien was inspired by other European cultures and languages and their beliefs and hierarchies to a certain extent which he adapted into his Mythos he wasn't however really accepting of their theology doctrines being true in his Mythos. As the story is said to end in a Biblical style Revelations endtimes kind of event ending with Morgoth and all his seed of evil being destroyed for all eternity and Eru Iluvatar comes down to be amongst his creations of Arda personally like Yahuah Elohim does in the end.
It's not really like Buddha morality in the sense I think you might be thinking of applying really so I don't think that kind of connection to me doesn't seem right nor completely accurate. In his world like the Bible in the very end there is no spiritual eternal balance of good and evil light and darkness like in Eastern religions of suffering.
In his world like the Bible evil dies and is eternally defeated and never was a match for the creator. Morgoth and his servants die along with all his deceit and his taint. His power in the world completely gone.
Just like how Yahusha defeats the Beast and the final world empire Satan creates for the Beast. And then establishes his kingdom on the earth that goes on for all eternity.
That is how I see it.

I really wish you could understand danish and listen to a podcast by a danish historien. The podcast is called “Tolkien and the mythical jutland” where it tracks Tolkiens own travles In Jutland (eastern Denmark) where there are places called Helmens Kløft and Isegaarden and he studied Old Celtic texst. He actually ended up helping us understand a part of our history where Jutland was Independent And at War.
I wish i could too, i lived there but most danes i met spoke proper english except once when i was chiiling in Stege, Some hippy came into the house & said Piere is waiting outside, it sounded as clear as english & when i queried as to why !st said did he say that in danish, answer yes, it i understood every word said! but only that one time, the best thing i found about the danish was their Drs, so Generous so empathic so easy to confuse & attain anything, & above all the refunded the cost's of all those drugs over the yr. i love the danish ,especially the doctors

Your level of research is on another level. You should be given control of a book to series, like the rings of power, to make series of middle earth from the begin to just before the start of the lord of the rings and wrap up the series with a season or two in the 4th age.

Amazing video ! You have not only narrated a history of Lórien, but also of much that is around it, and the many events that spanned from its first settlers, to the first years of the Fourth age.
This is another really cool video, would love seeing more Elven realms and cities explored--even lesser ones like Vinyamar or Bithrombar and Eglarest.
I did have one thing I'd question: the depiction of the Laiquendi (Green) and Sylvan elves as sub-groups of the Nandor. My understanding was that the Nandor are the Teleri who stayed east of the Misty Mountains, then most of them ended up going west later and entered Beleriand to become the Laiquendi. Then after the War of Wrath, the surviving Laiquendi traveled back east and encountered those Nandor who never went west in the first place. The two groups reunited and took in some others (some Avari, also some Sindarin who became their lords) and became the Sylvan elves.
"Nandor Elves from the host of the Teleri who refused to cross the Misty Mountains on the Great Journey from Cuiviénen, but of whom a part, led by Denethor, came long afterwards over the Blue Mountains and dwelt in Ossiriand (the Green-elves); for those who remained east of the Misty Mountains see Silvan Elves. Note, however that the derivation of the Laiquendi undergoes some changes. In some variants They are Tatyarin (i.e. Noldor who did not cross the Sea) in origin and in some they are Nelyarin (Teleri who did not cross the Sea).
CT chose the Telerin origin for the constructed Silmarilion. Tolkien's latest writing had them Tatyarin (IIRC).

Having watched a dozen or so of these videos, there's a genuine sadness that comes with the fates of the victors of the the war with Sauron as readin the LotR books. It is a reminder that everyone's fate is still mostly the same, except those who fell in battle obviously. The fact that Elves can experience death without actually dying makes mortality really feel like a gift. Makes one really question if they would rather choose the fate of Elrond or Aragorn.

And on the Hither Shore

It seems that few people actually read The Lord of the Rings or they would know that Gwaihir the Wind Lord was sent by Galadriel to find Gandalf on the mountain where he was sent back after his battle with the Balrog. While Gandalf is conversing with Gwaihir the eagle tells him that it was Galadriel that instructed him to find Gandalf and to take him back to Lothlorien. This information Gandalf shares when he is reunited with Aragon and the others as they were seeking Merry and Pippin. We never get to hear about how Galadriel knew that Gandalf had returned but it was just after the remaining fellowship left Lothlorien that Galadriel sent the eagle on this mission. Apparently Galadriel had some knowledge that the average human and elf did not also have.
