Get boosty with legendary mountain bike freerider, Paul Basagoitia, as he and Vital Tech editor, Jonny Simonetti, race the sun in SoCal on The Whoops trail. Paul suffered a serious spinal injury at Red Bull Rampage back in 2015 and has worked hard ever since to get back into riding shape. YEAH PAUL!

I remember working on those whoops with a guy named Kurt in about 2002 - 2003. He was in his 40's then and he's the guy who built most of them. He even worked on them after a bad crash sidelined him from the big jumps and he was airlifted out of there. Where ever you are Kurt... I hope you know the trails are still there and that "little" canyon gap is still making people pucker... haha. Interesting fact... most of those jumps were built for 24" bikes. Aaron Chase was the man back then we were all trying to ride like.

I went to a Kona event in Petaluma, CA when I was 9 to get some autographs from my favorite team: Paul, John Cowan, Andreu and Luis Lacondeguy. It's been 17 years and my mom still talks about how unbelievably nice the whole team was, especially Paul. So good to see him back on the bike.
