It might sound dumb, but it probably needs either a proper carb rebuild, or the coils are bad. My Command horizontal did the same thing. Found plastic shards inside the carb. And coils are super common faliures on command twins
I just repaired and refreshed my LA115, but my wife is sort of leaning towards letting me get a new one since it's 15 years old with 308 hours which was used for a 1 acre mowable plot for 13 years. Still in excellent condition- just needs a deep polishing to get some of the shine to pop again.
Looking at the S170 since I want the wide stripes and power, which would be the last tractor is ever need to buy unless we were to move again for some reason. X300 series can't be justified for our 0.6 acre plot.
It could be the valve adjustment but I lean toward the points and condenser if it has them or bad coil. If it has solid state ignition I would think it was a possibility. I would check to see if it has spark when it fails to start to narrow it down as a first and easy step to satisfy my curiosity if nothing else.
These have hydraulic valves. They aren’t adjustable. Still had spark during its episodes.
Wow! That thing sounds like a money pit. I don't blame you for buying another one. Before we got our John Deere Zero Turn, we had a Cub Cadet. There were problems with the deck, but that was pretty much it. We traded it for our former neighbor's John Deere and he uses it for hauling.
Yea it turned into one for sure. Just high hours at this point
My dad just bought a Husqvarna 42inch riding mower at Atwood's love the mower does an amazing job
This one’s been great. Way better on gas. Better turning radius. Both the blades and engine are quieter. Couldn’t be happier with it
Nice tractor. I hope you really enjoy it.
Im looking at the S130 now.
Yea I’m really happy with it. Done 3 mows now. Rides really nice, turning radius is so much better and gets roughly 2.5x fuel economy
Congrats on the new mower. Looks clean AF. At least this way, you dont have the electric clutch on the new deere. Easier to replace the motor if something happens down the line. Fingers crossed for a uneventful mowing season ahead 😂
Yea it wasn’t exactly what we wanted to do but given the market and how sparse it is we really didn’t have a choice
i had a horrible john deere l130 incident *each starter i buy is broken*
gas cap vent hole is clogged creating a vacuum
It wasn’t. That was the first thing I checked
My grandma has the almost the same JD (newer one). They bought it new. It never gets used anymore sadly. It's a pretty nice machine. I had to clean the carb out from it sitting too long with fuel in it. Removing the carb was interesting with the linkages. It didn't come with a fuel cutoff, so i put one on it. Edit: oh and the fan shroud under the hood likes to pop out of place a lot.
This one rides really nice. I’ve been pretty happy with the cut quality as well, gets 2.5x better fuel economy, better turning radius, plenty of power. Just need to either sharpen or throw on new blades on it
Who about pitting in a 12 volt electric fuel pump and eliminate the pulse pump. You can attach it to a manual on/off switch or fine a power line that supplies 12 volts when the key is on and no power when the key is off. Just a thought. have a good day.
I think in another 10 to 15 years, Californians will be in a rough place. Trying to charge millions of electric cars, yard equipment, etc. It seems they can't keep up with the electric demand now when it gets hot. Blackouts and brownouts galore. Sad.
For the record I’ve never had a brownout that I can remember. Atleast not in the last 10 years.
Could be the valves out of adjustment
Yes Very well Could be
This model Kohler has hydraulic lifters....
@@hanksgarage_ Oh, Yea mine wore out after 600 hours piston rings burned out and it started falling apart
I wood try to get a another engine for it to have a spare mower
Adjust the valves on it
As already stated it has hydraulic lifters. They aren’t adjustable.
harborfreight motor swap?
Looked into it. The one HF sells is horizontal only. Not vertical
Northern tools has a Briggs & Stratton Commercial Turf Series Twin Cylinder 20HP 40T876-0009-G1 $1100 plus tax and shipping, idk if it has electric start thou.
They also have Briggs & Stratton Twin Cylinder Vertical Shaft Engine 44S977-0033-G1 44S977-0032-G1 for $1175.70 plus tax and shipping
Hope it help if you wanted to restore it or not.
You have to do some modification and fabrication to get that HF 700 cc twin to fit smaller lawn tractors.
Time to move out of California?
Nah not over that
