i want to make it very clear that this isn't a scientific or an official business like way to actually test games or hardware or anything, but that it's just me, a girl, literally just seeing which paradox games work and which ones don't. and a lot of it could be my fault, or just that there didn't happen to be great controller layouts, or not a lot of community interest in making the proton layer work for those games, or just me having mods on that messed things up? but either way.. i did my best 😭

i've played a lot of eu4 and stellaris and cities skylines on pc. Gonna try this on steamdeck when it arrives.... which is 6months+ lol
I have my steam deck and I have been using it to death. It exceeded my expectations by miles. I beat a couple of games on it and I'm currently playing Dying Light. 🐧

Honestly, this is the one thing I wanted to do with the Steam Deck--playing stupidly overcomplicated strategy games in public. I think that it would be funny.

Can confirm. There are rare times when my current job gets so slow my boss lets me bring my laptop to work and I have been asked by coworkers why I keep staring at a world map.

The trade screen in Stellaris doesn't work on the Steam Deck. The right side of the trade screen can't fit and doesn't load, meaning you can give others stuff, but you can't ask for anything in return.

so you can install mods for the games, right? I'd try CK3 with Bigger Font and Better UI scaling, would probably help.
I feel like older games, like EU4/CK2 are better for it, because they were designed with smaller screens in mind, so everything fits well already.
Yea seeing that it runs all my sweaty map games.. It's on my list as of now.
it is good to have a device that you can carry with you to play your favorite games specially when travelling, but the problem with reading the events and paradox's games well known of its small fonts, even on pc it is hard to read.
I'm honestly shocked by how good the Stellaris UI is on that thing and on PS4. That company Paradox hired to port it really knows their stuff.

Only complaints about Stellaris, I think the trade screen is cut off so you don't have access to requests, and clicking on stars is a bit fiddly with the trackpad. Otherwise, perfectly playable with a good controller layout.
Hey, how did you make EU4 run on your Steam Deck? I can't get it to work at all :(
To get ck2 running on the steam deck did you try going to Properties... -> Compatibility -> [x] Force... specific.. compatibility tool -> Steam Linux Runtime?

So that's what the noise in my walls is. Cool. I love the idea of the Steamdeck, just not the price, or the resolution, or the fact I don't game in bed or, and this is probably the biggest downer, when I look at it I get a reflection of a sad old man and not a woman with fierce eyeliner. But yeah I've never undocked my Switch so this might not be for me. Great that you're enjoying it so much.
At least this video didn't end up on those sites that collate people, ahem, unaware of their reflection. So that's a bonus :D
The price? Lol, steam deck is cheap for what you get...check out the Aya neo handhelds.....
How do you zoom in when playing ck3? I’m not talking about the integrated zoom feature for small text, I mean how do you zoom in and out on the map? 😅

Victoria 3 plays ludicrously well on the Steam Deck. While I found CK3 and Stellaris a bit fiddly, more than half my ~40h is on deck so far.

The Steam Deck handles heavily modded CK3 like with The Fallen Eagle installed abysmally though. Like to the point the whole thing freezes up and the only way to get it to do anything is to forcibly reboot it.

The downside of living in Latin America is that neither the Steam Controller nor the Steam Deck is available for purchase :( Unless you're willing to spend an ungodly amount of money on shipping costs and taxes. I guess I'll keep on playing with my Xbox One Controller + Controller Companion app combo.

Odd, ck2 works fine on my Linux pc and I think it's weaker than the deck

ha , im very late to seeing this video but its funny because I am a couch pc map controller person lol . in fact ive been doing it so long I may have been one of the first . everyone has always asked why i have my computer next to my main tv in the living room. its always felt like the right thing to do , i dont know . now i have one of the new oled tvs which work perfect for tv and gaming so i guess the world has figured out that the setup is bad ass

I prefer to play strategy games on the computer rather then console or steam deck... but that is just me.
If you get a Bluetooth mouse you basically have a tabletop paradox machine. Hoi4 on the go without needing the big, noisy plug socket desiring laptop.
