8:17 if you add Spotify as a non steam game you can actually play music while playing your games in gaming mode
literally just paused to video to say the same thing :D
Woah
Usually I skip ads or promos. But this one was really good, for some reason it got me some rick and morty vibes. It was really satisfying.
I thought I was the only one who thought of it that way đ
immediately paused the ad to see if anyone else felt the R&M vibe too
Same
Dude, get a grip.
I always skip past ads too, but not for Bob. His is usually pretty entertaining. He included his dad in one not long ago.
Arlo is another one I'll watch the ads for, but not as consistently as Bob's.
I personally use a cheap dock, and I put the steam deck in desktop mode.... Then I go into the display settings to make my TV the primary screen and just disable the steam deck screen while docked. I set the resolution in this as well to 1920x1080 then I launch Steam and open big picture mode and its been a pretty decent experience. the games run at 1920x1080 and looks good doing it.
What dock do you use? I'm in the market and it's a minefield atm
I also love that it remembers your desktop setup, so if you plug back in it auto switches back to that layout.
How do you use big picture mode? Steam always crashes whenever I use Big picture mode in desktop on the steam desktop client...
I don't know why
@@Zinkolo weird cuz that's all I do is just go to desktop mode. And open Up steam big picture mode. Works on both stable and beta OS atleast this has been the case for my wife and myself we both have steam decks.
Is your steam deck fully up to date? , have you tried checking for updates on the Steam client as well for the desktop ?
@@neage7171 believe me it is lmao. I use beta. I tried stable too but it just sticks to 4k30 on game mode
This is why I'm so happy Bob finally got his deck! I knew he'd give us that quality content right away :-D
I was starting to call him deckless bob. glad to know he has a deck.
@@ultraokletsgo I woulda just skipped the step of calling him deckless and just gone with maidenless bob cause obviously the two are integral to each other.
Oooo yea he got the steam deck because he got fired from Nintendo now he is trying to trash it out
Having a deck is tight!
Bob decked the Deck haters.
Small note, the main problem with running windows on a microsd card is not the raw speeds, but the amount of reads/writes it does on the drive. Sd cards are prone to wearing down due to heavy utilization, and running an os really tests it.
Samsung and Sandisk have "high endurance" SD cards for heavy write purposes, only downsides is that they tend not to be the fastest cards on the market (your mileage may vary)
Not only that but Steam OS uses Ext4 like any other Linux distro, and that is faster in some cases than NTFS, besides the fact that it is hard to get data fragmentation
"and running an os really tests it" Yeah, and linux is particularly well suited here, as it's highly customizable. For example, you can tell Linux not to write changes to disk immediately, but rather to cache them in memory and write them periodically. This of course has the danger of data loss in the case of an unexpected power outage, but on the Steam Deck which is battery powered this should be no issue.
Why I loaded mine onto my 1 tb internal. I upgraded the SSD, partitioned for windows and just dual boot. Idk why sooo many folks were pushing SD card. I thought that was crazy.
@@seeibe no layman is going to go through all that or even know to look for that sort of information.
The most useful Steam Deck feature would definitely be having a portable Linux out and about. Crazy to see how powerful and convenient technology has progressed just in past few years.
How did you get the wolf next to your name?

@@Kevinmageddon Money.
It's pretty awesome. I can pull my usb powered audio interface for music recording out of my bag, plug it directly into the deck, load up Guitarix and plug my guitar in, and suddenly the steamdeck is a portable guitar amp/amp modeler.
(usb interface I have is a Behringer UM2)
@@RyanWAFFELYoung Wait, do you need a physical amp thingy? I wanna try to use the Steam Deck as a portable amp!
I love the way you run ads on this channel. They're super entertaining and funny. I normally fast forward through them on other channels but they're can't miss here.
Hey Bob. Iâve seen people boot into windows with a micro SD card on the deck! I think Deck Ready is a channel that has done it. Because they wanted to play destiny 2 on the deck.
Been loving the Deck Ready channel
Windows sucks balls on SD
8:16 you can open multiple programmes in game mode. so you can listen to Spotify while playing a game
I just got my Deck last week and there definitely is a learning curve. This thing can do so many things that it can be easy to get overwhealmed if you try to do too much at once. It's only gotten better and better the more I've gotten used to the control layout and I'm still continually impressed with how many things run smoothly, from PS2 and PS3 emulation to "unsupported" steam games just working without any extra tweaks. I'm using it every day and finding new fun things each day.
*overwhelmed
In the same boat as you my friend!
You can use the three dots button for the Steam shortcuts as well. It makes the shortcuts for the d pad and left joystick easier to perform.
The technical term for that is the meatballs button.
I love this guy. I find myself just re-watching his videos just because I know they are entertaining and great quality.
Really happy you corrected the information you put in your initial review.
The things I love the most about the Steam Deck is in the likes of games like Jedi Fallen Order where I couldn't get a good solid 60FPS, that I could just go into the desktop mode and just change the .ini files in a manner that lets me optimize a bit better for the game, while still maintaining a great set of graphic settings that look gorgeous still on the Deck.
Things like that, I wish were more common in console environments, like I would have loved if GoW HD on the PS Vita had a performance mode that prioritized framerate, or even let me try find a balance. Not like I'm going to be damaging my unit by changing the settings, if I bung up the game, just delete and reinstall in worst case scenarios.
Or modding, like the GTA games all prior to V have had songs removed due to licensing, but you can restore the files if you had them backed up pre-2018 on the Deck, while I know that you can still play the disk variants that have all the songs unedited on consoles, if you're going the digital route on any of them, you are not going to get the full lineup on any of those games bar V.
The only complaint I have about the Steam Deck is the effects it's had on my sleep ;-; but atleast I'm able to actually find time to finish games that are in the backlog for what seems to be an endless amount of time.
Just got mine and looking forward to messing w it. Thanks for the video wulf
Bob not only has some of the best content in general but his ads are probably some of the most entertaining of any content creator I've seen. Plus he and I share a top-tier papaw name so that's a bonus.
Had to pause and comment after the satisfye ad. It was amazing. Thank you.
FYI regarding the shortcuts: you can use both the "STEAM" and the "..." buttons. So for the D-Pad shortcuts you would use your right hand to hold down "...".
Thank you so much! How did I not know this?
yeah no more claw grip needed to adjust the brightness
Just want to say that i really enjoy the lighting and the feel of your videos. Always looks clean and cool. Also, loved the satisfye ad
this is the best channel on CZcams hands down. That ad was pure gold!
I just got mine a couple of days ago and I freaking love it. The Xbox game pass cloud gaming works insanely well on it as well as emulators. AND the steam games all work great and the fact u can install community made controller layouts and bindings means I never really have to worry about compatibility.
first time ever I just loved the "ad" in the video. awesome job!!
4:55 - 6:07 all those featurs are already part of Steam input pc so for those who uses steam you can do it on steam app too and even remap the controller buttons per game just as you could on deck
also I think generic gamepad support is a toggleble feature as it is on steam pc
I really look forward to the Valve Steam Dock. I figure it will just be cleaner than the other options that are available. I canât wait to have that experience. I been working on using the desktop more but itâs a bit difficult for me to adjust to it since itâs my first time using Linux and I just got my steam deck yesterday afternoon
Iâm currently debating between the steam deck or the ayn Odin lol
@@versatilelord8893 Ooh thatâs a tough one! Iâd say the portability by far goes to the ayn Odin, battery life will be pretty similar and the only thing really is the operating system. I have about average to small hands and the steam deck isnât an issue at all for me in terms of weight or feel. Iâll say for the majority of games that I want to play, retro games Iâd pick something the Ayn Odin. Steam Deck is great for me as I play a lot of the GameCube titles and even ds and gameboy look good plus the occasional steam game thatâs why I picked it plus the price was a lot better for me and in terms of how I travel itâs not too big a hassle. I will say itâs not pocket friendly though đ so if youâre on the fence Iâd write a list of the games you want to play immediately look at scaling options and what resolution youâd want them in and go from there. If you donât mind having a larger device that can also handle your steam library thatâs the way to go but if youâre mostly a retro gamer go for ayn Odin plus if you have a good pc you can stream to the ayn Odin with moonlight or steam link :) I donât have a computer so the Steam Deck is my desktop
I literally just finished one of your other steam deck videos. Good timing.
I really appreciate this steam deck coverage and I hope you keep it up. You've been one of my favorites which CZcamsrs and now you're one of my favorite theme deck CZcamsrs
Love your ads, man! And thanks for the regular content as well! đ
5:56 Changing the controller order is something that does set game focused devices like this apart from competitors that just slap an existing desktop or mobile OS on to their devices. Such a feature should have long been a part of all Linux window managers anyways. For that matter Windows & MacOS too.
Absolutely love the Steam Deck so far.
I do have two SD cards, one for Steam games, one for emulation.
Switching them on the fly is amazing, as it takes roughly 3-5 seconds for the Deck to recognize the newly inserted card, and display the right games.
I recently took the Steam Deck and a dongle to friends.
4 People, 1 Steam Deck, 3 Xbox360 controllers, and a PS4 controller, and a whole lot of Mario Kart Double Dash.
We wanted to play Steam games as well, but once you start up Mario Kart... ^^
holyshit 4 local co op with nintendo games like mario kart and smash bros work!?? how?
@@1995pieter Emulators (there are MANY video that explain how to get them on the Steam Deck), and then you get yourself a multi-adapter (USB-c to multiple USB 2.0/3.0 . Plug in multiple controllers, configure the Emulator, and done!
Sounds more complicated than it is, trust me!
@@RenegadeCactus thank you friend! I have searched and know now the gist of it. could you only help me with one more thing? where do you safely get your roms? no video or whatever want to go into that.
man before this I doubted if I made a good decision to reserve a steam deck but after what you said I know its will bring a lot of nostalgia with friends and housemates
The Satisfye add is perfect. 10/10 content
Love the promo, I actually watched it all!
If you want to play in a higher resolution you need to go into desktop mode and then launch the game. But the controller issue proceeds to exists since its you no longer have to the option to change main controller and steam has yet to release that function on the desktop mode or just steam desktop in general. And if you want to launch for example spotify in game mode just go into desktop mode and inside steam add non steam game and it will then show up in game mode.
Thanks for the useful information. Also, I liked the sponsor bit.
Bro, I love the promo. It was entertaining to watch. Good Job.
That sponsor ad was so good I had to watch it twice. Love it so much
The "ShamWow" style ad WAS GREAT!!!
I actually laughed at that, that had me going, I enjoy the way you do your "ads/sponsorship", it's good content.
Your friend BeatEmUps has good "ads" too, but your's are #1 when it comes to making them goofy & borderline nostalgic (at least for me anyways, as I grew up seeing that dude every night staying up late on like Adult Swim or something!!)!!
Keep up the good work, both you & your friend BeatEmUps!!!
Itâs been a whole anime arc watching bob go from when he first got the steam deck to now
While the Steam Deck is not a full switch replacement in every way I feel like the switch walked so Steam Deck could run. And it only gets better from here! :)

That Satisfye ad read had full commitment behind it. Thank you, Bob, for being so entertaining!
for those wondering you can listen to spotify if you set up the browser as a non steam app in game mode. the game mode allows fr multiple games and applications to run at the same time.
Resolution scaling can be fixed when you launch games on steam from the Linux desktop mode! Just remember to switch it back before going to handheld because it will not go back to 1280x800 on its own.
Mine arrives this coming week, I'm psyched :D
You can dual boot windows from the ssd if you want. You can boot a usb, resize the last partition on the ssd and then install windows on the new empty partition. There's even a custom bootloader so you can get a nice steamos/windows selector on boot.
It's amazing to see the community so dedicated to get things working on this thing :)

That Satisfy infomercial đđ»
This versatility this thing gives you is just amazing. This is a console that we can use for many years to come.
that satisfye ad was like, Rick & Morty + Wulff Den, LOVE IT
The promo was indicative of interdimensional cable. Just fantastic!
SteamOS is not proprietary people have already taken the code for it and made a pseudo steamos that you can install on any System since you can't do that with the official one as of now.
You can listen to Spotify and play games, you need to get the desktop app from the Discovery Store when on the desktop mode. Then added as a non-steam game, then when back in game mode launch it hit play on whatever music you want and hit the steam button and switch back to the library and logic gate they will both run. This works with Discord and other apps hope this helps
Dude your add read is epic !
The soft pokemon center music is so nostalgic
Love the junk food micro in the beginning!
ive watched many videos of you my man but today....today I realized you have the same voice when excited as the character snipes on rocka-doodle.
dude! this is a legit review! thanks
6:53 You can also use the QAM (3 dots) button instead of the steam button for these shortcuts - itâs a little easier than awkwardly adjusting your grip
awesome!! Thank you very much!!
Satisfye grips, great for soup! It is nice to see the steamdeck seems to get better as time goes on. Not really for me but always cool to see new ideas
you can add a lot of systems to RetroArch by adding the cores manually (steam has a short list of them), also add the info files if you want to have functional save states in added emulators
The jank counter near the end is very funny. Good informative video
I've been waiting for this
The Steam button shortcuts also work with the ââŠâ button, so that weird grip you did for Enter, ESC etc, isnât really needed, you can just do it two handed.
Polkadot Stingray, nice :D
You saved my life with the Steam+Joystick trick to use the mouse cursor. The trackpad was giving me a headache lol
Thatâs a nice looking fight pad, Bob!

Ok, you made me watch your merchs, congrats
Yoooo shoutout to Bob listening to Polkadot Stingray! Awesome band!
the steam deck is the future of gaming, at least to me
it finally bridges the gap of console being easily accessible to the consumer and pc being easily accessible to the developer also it runs linux which is very based
Bro came here to prepurchase research and you delivered with entertainment đ€Ł thank you
Ah yes. The shamwow energy for the ad, love it
seeing bob have a noita game makes me smile. that game is dope and punishing
FYI regarding your comment on Win10 on a MicroSD, I actually did exactly what you're talking about and setup a 2nd 1TB MicroSD card with Win10 on it. I'm using it solely to run GamePass games. It works pretty flawlessly actually, best method is to use Rufus to do an actual pre-install of Windows, to the card, then boot to it directly from the Deck's bootloader option. That way the Windows install process won't totally break the bootloader for the Steam Deck during install, as it's already installed to the card and just needs to run through first time setup at that point.
The Deck does bog quite a bit upon first boot, as does any windows machine... windows defender plus updates equals slow time central especially since MicroSD cards don't agree with Microsoft's hardcore fetish for constant random writes. But once defender finishes it's thing and all your updates are installed, it actually works pretty well at running GamePass games. The only caveat I've found is that Windows UWP games don't do a great job of recognizing the Deck's controller, especially the sticks off the bat. I found a 3rd-party utility however that allows you to add individual UWP apps/games to allow the controller to passthrough correctly. So basically you have to manually whitelist each gamepass game in that manner, but after that controller support works fine.
Best Vince offer Iâve seen since my youth.
this ad I didn`t skipped. I feel covered
u CAN use spotify while gaming mode works also with discord and any other programm. Just add spotify to your steam library in desktop mode go back to gaming mode and just start it, if you go back to the steam library (not close the game just hit the steam button) it allows there to start multible games/programms. You even can stream your games via discord or obs i tested it.
Great Content.... will definitely look for you on twitter when my deck arrives
I think Vince Offer would be proud of the ad spot... very nice!
First time I ever subbed for a sponsor spot.. hilarious.
you can definitely dual-boot. I have windows solely on an external USB-C thumb drive it's pretty fast and I love it. all the drivers work perfectly now đđŒ
I love how many things you should be able to fix on your own. So much better and more consumer friendly than other game companies!
That is the point of Linux brother. If you want to fix it, go right ahead.
@@CyberDruga hahahahaha bro stop just stop youre cracking me up. Going through these comments seeing you act like this is a W for linux.
This is valves effort and community, not linux. All one needs to do is engage with any of the popular distros to see how god awful desktop linux community is. Stay in your fucking hole.

You have a great informative video on the steam deck,While patiently waiting for my preorder Iâm starting to compile and purchase all my accessories. I really like the stand your using for the deck as it goes well with my iMac. Can you tell me where you purchased it? Thanks in advance.
First time on this channel and ngl that first ad really got me.
I hate ads! But, you really made it entertaining and funny!
Well done!đ
what's funny is Bob released this immediately after the announcement for the SteamOS 3.2 update which adds a BUNCH of features
I like this. Good Job. đ
The reason the games are still showing the native resolution is that Valve has their own custom compositor called Gamescope, ideally if you open the games from KDE (desktop mode) it should allow for full 4k support oob, unless something has changed. Also, as for the gamecube controller support, it works at least on my 3rd party adapter but you need to enable it in the steam controller settings, I just keep everything enabled. (Have been using linux for gaming for 10 years, though exclusively for 4). I would also HIGHLY recommend trying playstation controllers with it, PS4 and PS5 have native support even within the OS and the touchpads feel exceedingly nice, even over bluetooth, plus once again Steam supports them. Finally here's a pro tip. If you go to properties on a game, controllers and turn controller support to force or enable it will enable xpadder universally for that title, and with a quick re-launch of the game it'll 9 times out of 10 support any controller you want it to, because xpadder is remapping them to xbox schemes.
Iâm glad to see him warming up to Steam Deck. I want one so bad.
You can listen to music or podcast while playing on SteamOS . Just open the browser of your choice under the non steam tab in SteamOS. Than open your game and play with music/podcast. If you also make a shortcut for the built on mixer. You will also be able to control the audio for the browser and game separately.
Usefull tips, thank!
Wow the ad is amazing! Actually you have sold me the satisfye but sadly it isn't available in my region.
Steam deck for me is the ultimate emulation device, I didnt realize at first that the emudeck upscale the PS 2 games res, resulting in the older games having good visuals, even for modern standards!
I entered the handheld console since 3ds XL (my childhood is a misery, I love games but my parents won't buy even one console), I always have some pros and cons about the device, but now, I have found the perfect handheld beast, with a reasonable price too!
At 6:52 I see you having problems with Pressing Steam+Down/Left/Right, however I've found that the "..." options button does the same thing if held down.
So you can Either do Steam+Down or "..."+Down, it should be the same thing. "..."+Left Joistick up/down for brightness much more comfortable than Steam+Joystick.
That's what I found. If held down, they are basically the same modifier and await a 2nd input.
never stop making deck videos
favorite add so far!
This Ad was amazing. Please protect Wulff at all costs. Lol
I've been craving deck so badly recently
Bob, if you want to dual boot, you can install a boot manager like GRUB or reFIND. Put Windows on a Micro SD card, install your boot manager of choice, point it towards Windows, and then you can define how it boots and where it boots to. I bet there's a way to tell it to boot to Windows whenever it can find it, and to SteamOS if it can't.
Also, if you were to do the external GPU thing, you could install SteamOS onto the Micro SD.
Great video! But I'm greatly disappointed by the lack of mentioning anything about Steam Input and how it lets you remap literally any input with tons of different options for any controller.
Didn't even think I'd use them but being able to use gyro and/or touchpad for aiming in first person on a portable is surprisingly useful! And you can use them on pretty much every game unlike the switch :)
@@RKramer105 I've been using a steam controller for years and trying to convince people how great this is is so frustrating. People just don't believe you till they try it for themselves. I'm excited for the steam deck to give people that opportunity. Also having the screen on the controller makes gyro feel a little more natural as well.
@@RyanWAFFELYoung yeah for me it's one of the strongest part of the stream deck since most other consoles has almost no controller configuration. 8bitdo is good too. Wish it would be possible to do macros on steam deck. Like choosing how long time between each subcommand when you have several subcommand after each other, otherwise it's flawless
