We just got home from chimney rock today. We were walking on the trail behind the town next to the river and come face-to-face with a large black bear. We turned around and went up the first set of steps we could find while he/she just walked behind us. The bear never acted like it wanted anything to do with us but it was very unsettling to our 4 year old.
Oh my goodness! That would be uncomfortable for sure!! Glad it didn't hurt anyone 💙

If you look good enough around this area.Lots of Chipmunks.Ground hogs .One of NC's best places to visit.I wish I could live their off the grid.
