Great review video! It is always good to find long term reviews to see how products hold up over time. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the long term review, been wanting to purchase one of these but was concerned that it would have a lot of play in it. You covered everything well.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review. My dad taught me a little trick to stop a hitch from rattling around. Just drill and tap a hole in the bottom of your receiver behind pin ( between spare and pin) Then run a bolt into it and it will wedge the hitch in place so it doesn’t bounce up and down. Then just Cary that size wrench in your truck incase you need to swap it out.
That's a nice tip!
Good to see a long term follow up review, as I’m looking between this and gen-y and it definitely helps in my decision making. It’s nice to know about the rattle of the actual ball as well. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, I’m sure you’ll like either.
Dustin, we'd love to get you hooked up with one of our hitches! Give us a call if you're interested. 801.820.7020
I personally don't like the large adjustments on the gen y I'm looking at Curt and aluma tow adjustable hitches

I left a steel reese hitch in my truck for about two years. When the hitch was new it had very little play in it (opposite of this hitch in which you complain about). Well, when I went to remove it, it had rusted inside solid and took weeks of penetrating oil, heating torches, and beating it out from the opposite side with a sledgehammer!!! I learned my lesson with that many years ago. I bought a stainless steel replacement, and always keep the inside oiled. So... This hitch having plenty of play? No problem at all... This will never corrode into place and give you the problems I experienced. It's a trailer hitch, on a truck... It's not a sports car. Having play and some clanking noises while towing a trailer is just commonplace and to be expected. I would rather have this play than have the hitch rust solid where it can't be removed. Check out pintle hitch stye and now you're talking about some serious clanking and noise while hauling a trailer!!! Thanks for the longterm review -- Always good to see how well a product holds up over time.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes I would much rather have play in the hitch than have it rusted in there!
There's a device now that is U shaped. It wraps around the hitch and reciever (where they come together) at an angle and locks in. It completely eliminates the rattle and is simple and easy to add on and remove.
thanks for watching
All or most drop down hitches will rattle around like that. Here in Australia, most of our tow hitches receivers have 1 or 2 locking bolts on them. So after you insert your tow hitch, tighten locking bolts down firmly onto your hitch and this takes out all of the rattle in that area. It may also need a locking bolt for the towball as well.
Yeah I have come to learn that, this one seems Excessive
Thanks for the review, Just bought one .. 2 1/2 shank with the scale
Thanks for watching!
Great review! I’m wanting to buy this for my new truck.
Nice! It's been a great hitch
Glad I watched this video, I think I’m going to go with b&w tow and stow instead of the weigh safe now. Seems to be better built and less play in the overall hitch. Check out a hitch clamp. It will take all the play out of the receiver. Won’t be a solution for the play in the ball etc though.
thanks for watching
I own one and use it almost everyday pulling a 24' v nose trailer. I find it very reliable. Be satisfied with mine. I also bought the 1 7/8 hitch. I have all 3 sizes and other than having to add a little grafite for lube no problems.
Thanks for watching, I’ve had good luck with mine as well!
Are you still liking your weigh safe? How is the scale holding up? I was trying to decide if I need the small 17/8 ball. What still uses that? Tiny utility trailers?
I wrap duck tape on my hitch and it works well. It removes the rattle but it is hard to get off and with age you get the glue residue on everything.
Duck tape fixes everything!
That square adaptor goes in the receiver first, then you put in the insert. Works perfect when used properly.
I'll try that
Great review!

So they design it to be free and have wiggle when not under load. That lets you adjust it. When you apply load it tightens up
That makes sense
Great demo
Thanks for watching!
Very good to hear a longer term perspective. I just got the same on without the scale and it seems very well built at first glance. I saw some of the reviews about the scale failing and I have a manual tongue scale I can use. So I opted to get the one without the scale. Does yours have the stainless ball?
Mine looks to be an aluminum ball
@@Myksgarage oh interesting. I thought they only came with either chrome or stainless balls. Just checked and mine says it’s a stainless ball. Hope it doesn’t rust and is a good grade of stainless.
I have a 2.5 inch by 8 inch drop, Mine is also loose in the receiver which is the only thing I don’t like, other than that it’s a great hitch
Good to hear from another owner!
Seriously try this, spray a thin coat of spray can rubberized coating or truckbed liner, try it and if theres more room do a second coat rub a little grease on it after you get it snug fitting and voila! You can do the same to the bottom of the ball, the rubberized works better on this as it scrapes off excess easily. Tapelines make it neat.
Good suggestion, thanks for the tip
If I get the one with the balls on both ends could I turn it upside in the receiver? My truck is kinda low and I scrape my ball hitch on everything
Yeah that might work

Buy a quiet hitch clamp, I use it all the time, works great with no slop in the receiver
Do you have a link to one?
@@Myksgarage weigh safe makes one
Does the 6 inch drop of the hitch interfere with your ground clearance under a load ? And Is Your Truck Stock? I Have a Frontier 4X4 SV Stock, I Only Have 9 inch ground clearance from bottom of the drop bar without load. Have you experienced much scraping When traveling over high or low spots on roads ?
My truck is stock, if it’s in the “drop” position and I have a heavy load, it could scrape on a driveway or other high spot, but not very common.
You could buy the 4” drop model and that would eliminate the concern of scraping
I use 1 or 2 turns of black duct tape to take out the slop on the shank.
That’s an easy solution
On a side note, they make better anti-rattle clamps that are around the $10 mark on Amazon. They work better than the type you have, BUT, they are still a pain to unbolt the two nuts anytime you want to remove the hitch. I leave my hitch in year round as a way of hopefully eliminating rear end damage from distracted drivers.
Thanks for the suggestion, as I mentioned, I remove mine in the winter so it sounds like most anti rattle devices make it difficult to quickly remove the hitch. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review. Seems your biggest gripe is the rattling in the receiver (which is "normal"), but your anti-rattle device is not really a part of the Weigh Safe review per se. As at least one reply below indicates, if you get the e.g. Blue Ox anti-rattle, that is 2 U-bolts that bolt on outside AFTER you insert the hitch. In no way shape or form does it interfere with inserting or removing the hitch. Avoid any anti-rattle solution that goes inside of the receiver such as the one you showed, duct-tape, etc.
Yeah it a good hitch, and I’ve happy with it
Keep towing with it, the ball will become very loose. The aluminum gets worn around the ball and more movement will develop. Also you will notice the pin getting worn that goes thru the ball.
I hear Alot about the scale failing. I just bought one anyway. The play like that is normal
Weigh safe has a lifetime warranty on the scale, you’re covered if it ever fails. Thanks for watching
You have a link to the shim that you put in the hitch? Just got my hitch and hate the slop. Thanks
Here is the one I used. Thanks for watching

@@Myksgarage thanks. Just ordered!
Add some anti seize around the wedge 👍🏼
Thanks for the tip!
Why not banging the sleeve first? Then put hitch into receiver
That would help?
Thanks for the review,, could u pls tell me how much apx your boat weight?
About 6000lbs
@@Myksgarage So you would want %10-%15 on your tongue right? 600-900 lbs tongue weight?
PS thanks for the review!! :) I also like how Weigh Safe chimed in and gave info and a phone number! That in it's self is a HUGE plus for buying from them.
The scale blew out on mine today when a jackass didnt know how to load rock in a dump trailer and put 3/4 of the load in front of the axles. WeighSafe will rebuild the scale it it isn't working properly
That’s good to know
Yea, I think I'm going with the weigh safe
I also have several Weigh Safe hitches. They do not stand behind their
products or the engineering of them. Sad, because this could be a great
product. I contacted them in regard to a 3 year old product, and they
told me that they don't support it. WHAT????? Would not recommend to
anyone !!!
Thanks for sharing your experience. That is frustrating they dealt with you that way. Luckily there are other good options out there
Bruh mine has so much more play at the ball and slide it sounds crazy going down the road. Not a happy camper ill be going with a better company for sure the do not warranty this out of see it as a problem. Ill be posting a video of my hitch aswell. 100k miles on my Pulling Rv & Car hauler both under 8000#
Thanks for sharing your feedback!
Talked me right out of buying one. They sure need to tighten up the tolerances on the moving parts.
Yeah I don't blame you
Would you still recommend?
Yes, it’s still a good ball mount.
All hitches have that looseness. Once you put weight on it it’s fine.
Yeah it still rattles around with a trailer on it.
I think its safe to say, the more adjustability, the more wiggle you'll have
Yeah good point!
Mine sat in a box for 2 years, I used it for the first time this weekend and it didn't work. Waste of money
Like the Scale didn’t work?
Contact Weighsafe, they have a life time warranty on these hitches
I wrap my hitches with duck tape so it doesn't rattle in the receiver.
That's a good tip!
Just about every hitch has slop in it. Nature of the beast.
👍
For 300 couple dollars I don't think it's should act loose like thag.
Yeah i feel the same.
What do you think about this Trailer Hitch?
czcams.com/video/cfLpWM-NvP8/video.html
tool-free, removable , rattle-free, lockable
Looks like a nice hitch
you're the type of guy that thinks the ramp is the proper place to reinstall your cover.
🤷
Total garbage, wait until the cross pins get galled up and you cannot get it apart or off the truck!
That happened to yours?
@@Myksgarage Yes, had to cross drill it to get it apart, after that the slop was so bad it went into the trash.
not sure what galled up is. But my steelhitches, the pin holes get wore/bored out as well. Causing a lot of slop. Most steel hitches are way over priced for what they are!
