    I've had an identical ball mount for the past 2 years on my 17 Silverado and I love it. The bonus to using aluminum is that the gray stuff that wears off prevents the inside of your receiver from rusting. Only negative is dragging the upside down ball if it is in a lower position

    I love how fast you can change hitch height, I have a 2018 f250 pulling a 5000 lbs travel trailer I've been thinking of doing the same thing .. I hate that reducer

      @@WanderingWagners that’s great to hear. First time I’m using a drop hitch. Main concern was strength and no rattles from the multiple pieces. But so far it seems solid.

    I’ve also seen the ones that have a scale built in so you can see your tongue weight. Pretty cool idea if they’re accurate. I do love the idea of a shorter shank. My shins would thank me for it! 😮

    • @WanderingWagners

    Question for the wandering wagners. While the truck doesnt need weight distribution what about the anti sway. I pull about 8000lbs TT with a 3500 Ram. It also does not require weight distribution. But I still worry about sway. Aren't you worried about sway?

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  Před 5 lety +1

      I’m not worried at all. The best sway control is properly loading the trailer and weighing it to make sure you aren’t light on the tongue. We are at 13% tongue weight and have towed cross country at 80mph (where posted) without any issues. If sway control makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside though, I’d say go ahead and run it.

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  Před 5 lety

      Haven't found anything on that. It's generally based off of the trailer weight and tow vehicle owners manual. This truck says specifically that no weight distribution is required.

  • @jandblawncare8570
    @jandblawncare8570 Před 5 lety

    I wouldn't. I always thought having a dually has nothing to do with sway control when it comes to towing a bumper pull trailer, the pivot point is at the ball unlike a 5th wheel when its over the rear wheels which having 4 stiff tires help out a lot. I know one thing...its still a cool ars truck!

    • @WanderingWagners
      @WanderingWagners  Před 5 lety

    What would you estimate the weight difference between your steel hitch and this one ? I too am getting tired of lifting the old heavy steel hitch. I've never attempted towing the current trailer w/o the sway bars attached but should "test" it out on a short trip before going your route. Not sure if there is an alum with sway bar options ?

    I wonder if galvanic corrosion will be a concern? Steel and aluminum are pretty close on the active level but when you start mixing in water and road dirt/salts it would increase that potential.
