    That was amazing.
    You actually took the time to use the technology that is available today and used it in the proper manner.
    By doing the proper research and getting to the root of the problem, you took all the guess work out of the equation,
    Saving the owner money, you made more money in less time.
    That is a win, win, if there ever was a win, win.

    THANK YOU! Great Troubleshooting job. Good instructor too. I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee that will not go into any gear and move. It will shift out of park to R to N, D to 1-2 but no movement. I have a troubleshooting light and may just try to trace the TCM signal like you did here. Just to make sure I am getting the voltage. I have never used the trouble light but there is a first time for everything! Especially when you made it so clear.

  • @spelunkerd
    @spelunkerd Před 3 lety +10

    Diodes can overheat and blow just like a fuse, which is probably why the are placed in a way that allows easy replacement. Unfortunately the little knob on the side didn't prevent if from being replaced backwards. I rarely find occasion to use the diode testing tab on my multimeter, but testing a diode is very easy, and you can even assess forward voltage drop. Excellent case study!

    • @spelunkerd
      @spelunkerd Před 3 lety +1

      @@liviu2004 Yes, Zener diodes in particular have a breakdown voltage which makes them useful for overvoltage protection. If reverse voltage spikes too high, the diode allows a path to ground, which protects other more sensitive devices in the circuit from overvoltage. Like a fuse, it is hopefully positioned to fail at a spot that is hopefully easy to repair.

    • @lorenzoparedes2306
      @lorenzoparedes2306 Před 2 lety +1

      Also, one can use a LOW VOLTAGE ohmmeter to test the diode. It will show higher resistance when polarity is applied backwards. I capitalized the low voltage wording to prevent someone from frying an otherwise good diode while testing.
