  • What makes ASUS Strix so special? RTX 3070 OC Review
I've been wanting to do a deep dive on the Asus Strix RTX 3070 to find out why these Strix cards are so expensive and what makes them special.

    Cards I have bought 4 x RX480 STRIX OC (X99 crossfire) / 1 x RX580 STRIX OC / 3 x 1080Ti STRIX OC (X99 SLI) and now 3070Ti STRIX OC (z590 STRIX APEX/11900K)
Before these card I used to buy Gigabyte MSI Club3d Sapphire cards... They dont come even close to the quality performance cooling solution and VRM power delivery that STRIX cards can offer.
Thats why most of the world records are made with these cards and I probably will never go back (if and if only then EVGA)

99% of the time STRIX cards perform better than "the rest" out of the box not to mention when you put XOC vBios on them. That is the reason why they cost money (I have built around 120 system in my life and I think I have had mby like 200 GPUs)
Nice video tho subscribed to your channel.

I have been looking at getting the Rog Strix 3070ti because its in stock for $900 right now but the EVGA 12gb FTW3 Ultra 3080 is available for $1000....

I have this graphics card and I just wanted to know what the little switch on it does. Right above it it says .

  • @motherflerkentannhauser8152

This *DOES NOT* have the same performance compared to other 3070's. The strix card has much higher max. power limit and vrm's for much more OC head room. It even runs at higher power draw and clock speed at stock than all other cards.
I'd say $130 above msrp is still somewhat justified for what you get. But in reality, the strix card usually costs $700+ or even $1000+. The only justification for those prices over just buying the 3080 FE cards might be, either FE cards are not sold in your region, or in some cases, next tier card requires bigger PSU, bigger case, better cpu to pair with and hence, motherboard, etc. resulting in eventually spending more. Otherwise, it feels really stupid to spend 3080 money on a 3070. There are much better valued cards even if you don't want the FE.

I am going to grab this card when it gets a little lower in price. Running a 1070ti STRIX right now, it's big also but stays in the 60's even hours of full load and you can barely hear it over the case fans.

What about coil whine at high FPS/load? :)
I've recently got myself a ROG-STRIX-RTX3080-O10G-V2-GAMING and OMG the coil whine is just ridiculous. It is even louder than a GPU fun noise under load...
ASUS "promise" us in their marketing materials that they are using "Premium components; top shelf capacitors, chokes and MOSFETS etc.", but I just don't see how it is possible when GPU behaves as it does... I have a Corsair rm1000i PSU (1000 Watt 80 PLUS Gold Certified Fully Modular PSU) and used 3 separate PCI-E rails (no daisy chain), but it doesn't matter - the more FPS you get (the higher the power draw) the louder it gets (coil whine)... and from what I have found - it looks like I'm not the only one (same with their 3090 cards judging by different youtube videos)...
p.s. 2nd "silent bios" as well as "Silent mode" in ASUS GPU Tweak feels like a mockery... it feels like there is something lucking in ASUS QA/QC...

Coil whine is not an indicator of the qualities of components, it is an indicator or the number of coils. Or rather eductors , “chokes” other things effect this, the power supply, the motherboard, and frame rates, core voltage , all chokes have coil whine, most of the time the sound is above human hearing, sometimes it’s not, it’s not as simple as brand x has zero whine and band y is super loud. The strix cards have pretty hefty vrm’s and very good thermals , this usually pushes the voltage and clocks a bit more than say a reference card, the opportunity for whine to be present is increased. Is a drag strip racing car louder than a passenger car? Yup. Does that make the drag car bad? Well not in quarter mile times. My point here is the wine issue is not an indication of quality, and the resonant frequency of a card, is a very complicated issue , one that imo, is not really well understood in both engineering and acoustics. This affects many things not just gpu’s, things like gun barrel accuracy, to acoustic guitars, and in my mind are all related to a group of parts and it’s resonate frequency. It’s a complex issue. And not well understood. How does your card perform? How does it overclock?

    Hello ,
sorry for my bad english, but i try anyway :)
very good videos. Subscribed directly :)
I still own the Asus Strix 1060 :(
Wanted to buy now the 3080 but with the power consumption and the crisis we just have in Europe scares me a bit so now I thought of the 3070 or 3070 ti.
Or rather the 3080 and then Undervolten ?
What is your opinion? Playing warZone at the moment, what also makes me a bit puzzled are the 8 GB memory, will that become a problem with the next games?
Would be happy for any answer.
    With kind regards
    Chris

    • @DannysTechChannel
      @DannysTechChannel  Před 2 lety

If you hold onto a card for that long I’d go for the best card you can afford as it won’t be outdone quickly. Give it another month or so and you might be able to get a 3070 Ti for a VERY reasonable price. The 8GB vram buffer will only matter if your playing at higher resolutions such as 1440p or 4K. I was playing Apex on 4k yesterday and my PC was using 10.4GB of vram.

@@DannysTechChannel Hi, thanks for the quick reply,
will then buy the asus strix 3080 and try to bring down the with undervoltin in the level of the 3070 ti.
so the card will consume less power and have the 10 Gb Vram.
because I also had to buy me a 34 inch 1440 monitor.
      Thanks

such a waste of money these are, i have never seen one priced well, they are always the price of a bottom tier 3080, and why would you pay 3080 money for a card much slower?

lmao. theres nothing special about strixs. i have a 3080 strix build and a suprimx 3080 build. and my suprim x 3080 outperforms it because of its superior cooling (runs 6-7 degrees cooler under load). even my bros 3080 aorus master performs better. rog gear is overpriced and overrated. anyone want to buy a strix 3080?
