Recording Multitrack Audio from Jupiter-Xm into Ableton Live: czcams.com/video/g3gRbLUV4g4/video.html
@Diosi Smith I do not know, haven't messed with the arp.
can't deny that roland's new sound engine they just put out is amazing
I hear ya! Thanks for watching.
I agree... I covet Roland sounds and really wanted a Integra-7 but not anymore, this board has all the great Roland sounds and more. Roland has always had some of my all time favorite sounds like the Soaring Lead but they often seem to present them with some kind of shortcoming lol. Regardless, I have a Kronos, an MODX7 and now all I need is this Jupiter XM and I will have the deepest sound library ever and should happily lead to some very spirited playing as we head into the new decade . The XM sounds great.
Maaaaaan that’s a really dope collection! What are your thoughts on the Kronos?
I love the Kronos... killer synth, good clone wheel organ and decent rotary effect. I have a 61 but when I've midi'd the piano sound to my weighted board, the piano sounds were also pretty cool. I really like the tactile environment and the movement of sounds and that's just scratching the surface. It really is a board for the ages in my opinion.
Robert A. I’d love to check one out, haven’t messed with it. Dope!
Thanks for the video! How’re the built in speakers?
Thanks for watching! They are actually pretty good for just vibing out, I mean you can't play an arena with them but for just playing the synth without being in the lab or without plugging up, it's pretty loud.
Here's an example instagram.com/p/B45_TNxHtNv/
I have the Jdxi and love the way you can edit your beats, what other synth do you recommend who can do that? How much can you edit the beats in this one, like change them inside save them etc rearrange them. Great video
This doesn't really have a sequencer like that so to speak. Not sure, I don't use a lot of synths for that type of work.
The machine sounds GREAT MAN.
Thanks for watching
sounds very warm, i like electronic part of it, but how about acouistic, does it have a recorded sampled pianos, and other instruments?
Yeah, there are pianos, flutes, horns, strings, etc.
Question. So i can only sequence 5 sounds at a time on my mpc live or is it 16 multitimbral?
It is 5 part multitimbral
Hey can you select multiple parts for controlling cutoff parm enevelope etc. for more parts same time
I'm not sure, it seems to focus on one part at a time in part mode, it may be global when in scene mode but I'll have to check.
Hi I hear the piano sounds that you played but does it have other dedicated sound banks f other instruments like guitar, horns, strings and so forth or is it mostly a creative box of synth sounds and no banks do instruments like the five piano sounds?
Thank you
Yeah, the XV bank has traditional sounds like horns, strings, organs, guitar, keys, etc.
also how you think is it sounds better for example than Dune 3 VST? or Montage/Kronos synths? Also very interesting to see compare between analog monsters from Dave Smith's, Moog's
I haven't used Dune 3 so can't compare, you can get similar sounds like a Montage or Kronos, but all have their own strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn't compared it to a moog/dsi as it isn't a straight up analog synth, but you can get some similar sounds compared to those as well.
This joint sounds incredible! 🤯
Thanks for watchin bro! LOL yeah it does.
Best review thus-far!!!
Thanks for watching! Not a review just yet but I like sharing my first reactions with everyone, I'm enjoying the Jupiter though!
Great demo! Is it possible to play some parts with an external keyboard and some with the Jupiter keyboard? For instance playing an electric piano sound on an 88 midi controller and only play a synth part on the Jupiter? Because that would really be the bomb for live performances...
Hmmmm, it has MIDI so I'm not sure why that wouldn't work, I'll have to check if I don't forget LOL
What’s the patch or setting around 1:45 with the really punchy bass
I don’t recall
14:15 - You can browse by type. Scroll ALL the way up in that Tone Select menu and change it from Model to Category
Thanks! Yeah I ended up figuring it out after I recorded this and playing around a bit. It is actually really flexible because you can customize how your categories show up and how you get to them using the buttons. I will probably do a video on it because it was something I really wanted to know hahaha.
SoundsAndGear With thousands of tones, it’s the only way to stay sane!
@@RobertSaintJohn Yes indeed! I actually like it once I figured out how to adjust it. So I can have categories grouped in a way that makes sense to me. It makes it close to the speed of navigating categories on the Fantom with the dedicated buttons.
SoundsandGear , Jupiter for the win. Vs. Fantom.
On the RD Engine would you spice up the sounds with some drive //amp?
I hear ya! I actually like the RD engine, but I'm sure you could spice it up a bit if you want.
Sounds really awesome
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video! I am more and more sold when I see this in action. I was wondering if you could switch patches or scenes seamlessly, as in the Fantom.. BTW, I am more excited about the Jupiter synths over the Fantom, and I'm am looking forward to getting bigger X model
Yeah, you can switch seamless from what I can tell, I tried it a few times, I'll have to look deeper. And I do agree, the Jupiter has me a bit more excited as well, I like what they are doing and the control you have over the sounds. The X looks great!
Great demo!
I just got this XM and if you figure out how to layer the sounds and
program different arpeggios let me know
Thanks brother!
To layer sounds you would turn on/off the different parts using buttons 6-10
Thanks Joe!🙌🎶🎶🎶😎
Thanks for watching!
I watch all of your videos and it’s really appreciated how you try to always be non bias. With that said I bought a Fantom and love it. Do you think buying the Jupiter X will step on the toes of the Fantom or do they form a nice marriage and compliment each other’s features. I’m iffy on the I arp tech as of now, but I haven’t touched an Xm or X yet. Thanks again for all of your time 🙏
Thanks for watching! That's a hard one, they are different but I feel like the Fantom covers quite a bit of what the Jupiter can do, or they may add those engines to the Fantom. Where the Jupiter can't do everything the Fantom does. If you like hands on knob control then Jupiter is better for that, but I preferred the overall layout and workflow of the Fantom even though having access to all that sound in the Xm in such a small space was pretty cool. If I had to choose one of them to keep personally, it would have been the Fantom.
SJ, since you have the Fantom have you tried interfacing it with the Jupiter? Have you tried using the Jupiter to control the Fantom’s sounds, and have you tried running the Jupiter’s outputs through the Fantom?
Nah, not at all, you know I'm not a fan of MIDI mapping hahahaha. I would have tried it already if the Fantom had audio tracks though, that would be a dope combo!
SJ lol, I keep forgetting that. I was thinking since the two are Roland devices there wouldn’t be any mapping.
Man I would almost guarantee there is hahahaha, I could be wrong though. That would be cool if you could plug it in and it automatically mapped/showed the parameters like it does when you use Logic or Mainstage.
🔥 🔥 ALL FIRE 🔥 🔥
Thanks for watching!
Yup... this is the only board I am hoping to add to the rig in 2020. It's that Roland sound... slick!
Nice! Thanks for watching.
Is the keybed has aftertouch?
I don't think so, no longer have it so can't check.
Does it do audio over USB? All 5 parts on different channels in the DAW?
It says it does audio over USB but requires a driver, I haven't tried it yet.
Mine arrives this Friday:)
@@jeremystorm3902 Let me know what you think!
I got mine yesterday. It does do audio and midi over usb but I am still trying to get the parts to work separately in my DAW. You can have different midi channels set up for the different parts but I haven't really sussed it yet.
Tried it today, it actually does a stereo mix, and 6 more parts over audio (1 for each part and one for the mic input)
Here we go lets see what its got
Ayyyyy!
8:40 I really like that patch.
Word, thanks for checking!
OK after watching I need it lol Christmas gift to myself
Ahahahaha, man I dig it bro!
Just have to say that the XM is incredible. I haven't even scratched the surface. Although the screen is small it is pretty logical and easy to decipher when changing settings. The scene setup function is really cool too. I'm still trying to find out how to name a scene because they're all editable and programmable apparently. All the sounds and parts have effects and compression, eq etc which is great if, say, you can only monitor via one channel in your DAW. I'm experiencing a little problem with trying to have separate channels in my DAW at the moment. It does seem to work but I'm getting a bleed-through from all the channels at once when I access, say, one channel with part 1 in the xm coming through. If somebody else is using Logic Pro x please get in touch!
I'll have to try it with logic, but I got the multi channel working in Ableton Live, I just have finish editing the video. I'm really digging this joint though, it is very immediate and has a lot of good sounds plus straight forward to program.
My question is it 5 part multitimbral ?
Yes, you can run all 5 parts at once, I don't use it via MIDI but it is possible.
What happened to your modular case you started a couple years ago?
I sold that a while ago, decided a huge modular wasn't for me lol
@@SoundsAndGear Damn Fam! You may have just crushed my dreams! I was so excited as a follower of your channel....I bought the Audiohub after your review "back in the day" and said as I was peeping modular let me check my man...so this is a bombshell! LOL. Have a great holiday my man!
@@rustikinc63 Ahahahaha, it's cool for sound design I just didn't find myself using it musically so I got rid of it. I don't like to hold on to stuff I'm not using. I still have a small Rackbrute that I can throw a few modules in. But that huge modular case just wasn't for me lol.
@@SoundsAndGear That's cool...I am at the same crossroads....SO....let me pose a real question....Audiohubs are no longer around...I have one...but can't find another...you want to sell me yours? Is this Jupiter worth a buy? Is it multi-timbral and multi MIDI CHANNEL?.....like a hardware "Sampletank"....where I can have each track be an instrument as long as it doesn't exceed......was it 24 voice polyphony?...........OH........seriously .....WHAT IS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE AUDIOHUB THAT HAD SAME USB CONNECTIVITY AS WELL AS AUDIO QUALITY, CLASS COMPLIANCE AND OVERALL VALUE? And...yo....happy thanksgiving cuz!
@@rustikinc63 I no longer have the Audiohub (sent it to a friend) lol
Thanks for the video I have the Xm I love it I am working out if I *really* have room for the X so I have the better keyboard
Thanks for watching!
Hi can you demo how easy it is to create a science and allocate a midi channel to it please
I'm not sure what you mean exactly?
I’m more into the Jupiter than the Fantom. Like you, my first keyboard was the Fantom-S...I loved it but, since then I’ve realized I’d rather use Akai products to create my beats. I just want the Roland sounds back! I also like the smaller size of the XM. I’ll be sampling clips into the Akai FORCE !
Yeah man! I dig that as well. That's why I was excited about this little guy. I mainly use workstations for the sounds, and the acoustic sounds are most important to me on those. This guy right here though, is a great synth and still gives you access to classic Roland acoustic tones. I dig it, and I record audio clips like you. Not into the Force because I don't have one hahaha, but whatever I'm using at the time. MPC, Maschine, iPad, etc.
Roland XM : new Model !!!
New Lançamentos !!! 😄😀😀😄💡💡💡👍👍
Thanks for watching
SoundsAndGear favourite presets and acquired patches created from presets please. *Favourite presets and Why/Expressivity parameter Mod///-Matrix?
I'm not sure if this is a question, or a statement? If you asking, I do not have any favorite patches personally, just depends on what I'm looking for at the moment.
Man, Roland ain't playing these days. They starting to claim back their status. I like this joint homie.
Yeah bro, this joint nice for real lol. You know I've been a Roland fan forever, this is like a gang of Roland sounds in one box hahaha.
@@SoundsAndGear Yeah, the fact you get xv5080 sounds along with the other classic synth sounds, makes it a good addition to your studio. I love and hate this time of the year, to many good deals to pass up 🤔
Hahahaha, word lol
not bad, but the price was too high at this range(I mean, I need a synth, not a pack), because it's not a synth, with a cover of synthesizer but also with many classic roland synth sound inside as a workstation, btw, have you tested all the onboard sounds? how about that? how close to the original model?
if you really like this production kits and production style, buy jupiter x not the xm for more performing capabilities.
Just depends on what you need. Having all of that sound in a small package is pretty cool to me. I do think the X looks amazing, but I'm not a performer, for me these things are for studio/home use so I can get by with the small keys in exchange for the sound engine. I haven't tested them all and haven't owned all of the synths to compare, but in general their VA tech is pretty good sounding overall.
lol. You want the Mod Wheels wider and the keys bigger, a bigger screen. Jupiter X.
Yep LOL
Better than every Behringer synth combined!
Hahahaha, thanks for watching.
No.....
Rob Lo lol
Yeah no
Behringer can’t even compete with Malekko OR Delta CEP
That thing is so crisp, i think it gonna re-invert SynthWave, 80s 2.0 :p
Hahahaha lol, thanks for watching!
wait for the Jupiter X full size bruv. all the digital haters can suck it
@@pooptitz7375 That full size is going to be crazy with the faders/controls. Very interested.
I like it! But I'd like to see the full X. I wonder how it compares to Jupiter 8.
Yeah I want to see that as well!
It's no different to this just larger keys and sliders instead of knobs
@@georgegeorgio1751 That's different though, brings a different experience/interaction compared to the XM. Same sounds, etc though so really depends on space/size someone wants. Be interesting to see how the workflow is, if the dedicated faders/knobs make it faster to work with or if it is the same. I really don't have a problem with the Xm though, I like the size and don't mind the layout.
@@SoundsAndGear Yes but really if the only thing different is the sliders then I suppose you could make the argument that the more octaves will inspire you in a different way but that's about it.
@@georgegeorgio1751 more controls (dedicated faders/buttons) could be useful for those that are looking more for a performance instrument also.
Please please: a video with the xm working inside a DAW with separate parts accessed via the DAW with separate tones and engines!
I'll have to explore how it works, I don't use a daw much when creating but from what I've seen in the manual it should be 5 parts to the daw via usb.
@@SoundsAndGear Hi Mate! I was playing around with my XM this afternoon and I managed to hook it up to Logic Pro x. I downloaded the drivers from Roland and was able to send audio and midi to my DAW. The only problem I've encountered is trying to have separate tracks in my DAW corresponding to each part in the xm. While I can have a track in my DAW with, say, midi channel 1 corresponding to part i in the xm, when I do the same with the other parts I've noticed that the audio signals are monitored in every channel from the xm irrespective of part or midi channel. It's a little irritating because it means I can't work on each sound from the xm separately in my DAW. I am sure I'm doing something wrong but for now it's a bit of a pain. Having said that, I am not experiencing any latency, which is great. The boutique models were always slightly out of syn when running live but the xm seems to cope with this much better.
I messed with it this afternoon and figured it out, I did it in Ableton Live but the tracks should all show up as individual inputs, you have 6 all together. Input 1 (1/2) is a stereo mix of everything going in and out. Then you have inputs for the 5 parts, the very last one is the mic input on its own channel. I haven't finished editing the video yet but it is definitely fun to use this way. I didn't try MIDI though, I was just recording straight to audio.
@@SoundsAndGear Hi mate. In Logic Pro x I have the xm showing up as 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 inputs. While there is a corresponding midi channel and part, and even an input, the parts seem to all be monitored together on every channel. So, for example, for channel 1 part 1 I hear the part and all the other parts simultaneously. I'm thinking of panning in the xam to see if that helps but I doubt it will. Bit of a nuisance at the moment. It will be probably sort itself out soon. It might be a driver issue or something.
I'll have to check, I have tried in Logic yet.
Definitely more attracted by the Jupiter line. Quite difficult to decide between the compact version and the full size 61 notes. Not sure to understand the Roland policy about releasing the X 4 months later...
Yeah I feel you and agree. I really dig the idea of the smaller model, but then I see the extra hands on control of the larger one and it gets me interested as well. Ultimately I will need to actually use the larger one to see how different it is, because they have the same screen so I imagine the menu system is the same. If that's the case I'm not sure, bigger keys are nice but the size of the Xm allows it to fit in a lot of scenarios. Either way, I am digging the new Jupiter platform in general.
SoundsAndGear Totally agree with you. The size of the Xm would be just perfect in my setup. I am quite tempted to pull the trigger on the Xm version...
@@synthury1858 Can't lie, I expected to be more excited about the Fantom, don't get me wrong, the Fantom is nice, I love a good workstation and I think they will continue to update and make it better. But the size of the Xm for what you get is really cool. Not to mention it can run on batteries if you want lol. And the instant hands on control of parameters is really useful. Gonna keep digging into it and learning about it but my first impression of it hasn't changed. The mod/pitch wheels are not good, super small, and the keys are skinny, but I personally would rather have the keys and wheels than just a desktop module.
Curious how immediate the effects setup is. Like changing the delay sync rate or reverb type without too much menu diving
There is a time knob over there next to the amount. I'll have to dig in a bit more to see what the setup for each is like.
Very rich sounds
Thanks for watching fam!
I heard the jupiter x is coming next year
It has full size keys
Yeah I'm really interested in that one too. Looks like it has dedicated faders for envelope and other things, same sound engine just a larger interface. Looking forward to trying it out if I can.
Yeah sure is for an extra 1,600 you can get an extra octave. Better vfm is the XM
@@kelad0147 Also has full size keys, and more faders/controls. But I think the Xm is really cool personally.
1:13 Nice chords
Thanks fam! No clue what I played hahahaha.
I think those slim Keys made you play something different😆There’s some advance to the smaller Keys in that you can cover more intervals without stretching your hand as much. Playing all those “jazzy” chords with ease🎹
@@ronrobins3513 Wish I knew the chord names, etc. I just be playing man LOL!
I'm more excited by Jupiter Xm. Seems really fantastic.
Thanks for watching! I share the same opinion!
I got a Jupiter 50 for €850 six octaves full size keys, not in 1500 years I would buy the Xm.
Nice! That's a great price!
Nice but the Korg Wavestation got the block right now💯
Thanks for watching fam! And yeah...that Korg joint looking nice fasho!
you don’t mean the Wavestate?
Feel like Roland name dropped all their classics on this one to get people buying it, to give it a chance lol, because I dunno if I think it's good for copying those exact sounds, but no doubt it does sound good
Yeah it sounds good, I'm sure it will not be identical sound for sound, but I definitely hear some of the JX character in there (that's the only one I own lol) and ultimately it just makes for a good sound design tool I think.
@@SoundsAndGear if it makes people look past just copying old sounds and end up actually listening with their ears, it's gonna be a popular synth, because there's nothing wrong with the sound, and yeah, sounds like the next step of JX
Agreed! I just dig the character of it, and it is actually fun to play/tweak.
Should I buy this or a Fantom?😏😏😏😏😏
That's a tough question, depends on what you're looking for. Also depends on if they add these engines to the Fantom hahaha. I like the hands on of this and the compact size though, really cool.
Roland has some stiff competition at the price point. It will interesting to see how it shakes out...
Definitely interesting times!
I purchased the Jupiter-XM but returned it. I had the Jupiter-80 and 50 and the analog models are an improvement on the Xm over the Supernatural Synth engine of the former Jupiters. I, however do not like the UI on the Xm. The surface controls are very welcomed but there is a lot of menu diving. It could have been made more simple. Also, the VA models, while the filters sound great, the models are NOT as good as ACB. ACB is more accurate at recreating those classic Roland analog synths and BEHAVING like them. The ABM in the Xm behaves like any other VA (non-ACB, like on the V-synth, SH-201,) and can produce phasing or flanging while playing repeated and rapid sounds (notes or chords) that have a bit longer release. I hope the larger X coming in the spring addresses some of the UI issues. This would have been a grand slam if it had at least one ACB model slot.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Great to hear from you as an owner of the previous Jupiter devices. I agree the UI takes a bit of getting used to, but once I figured out what was going on it was ok. I would have loved a larger screen and more dedicated buttons but I figure the button issue is a given due to the size. I'd be really interested to see how the larger X addresses navigation. I always loved the sound of the System 8, and considering they are the same price right now makes it interesting. What I like a bit more about the new Jupiter is that it can be updated with multiple models (not just 3 plugouts at a time) and it also has those bread and butter sounds. The biggest plus to me is all the sound you get in a small package, but I do agree about the menu depending on what you're looking for. (plus I'm so used to touchscreen navigation now lol)
Sounds a lot like a System 8 re boxed...
Similar indeed, more polyphony and has the regular acoustic type sounds too
Not at all. This thing is PCM sample based and not an ACB VA. Only the filters in the J. Xm are modeled.
Why does Roland send you an xm to check out ?
While you are not even aware if the filters are analogue or not ?
p.s. they are modelled and not analogue
Why did they? Why not? Am I supposed to know everything about it before I actually use it? This is literally my first time messing with it lol. Thanks for your concern though. I didn't think they had an analog filter in there but wasn't 100% sure. (plus thought it would be cool if they did that in here too). Thanks for watching anyway.
I quit buying Roland gear,...They look good and promising,...But to often i had discovered flavs in design,...Have spent 15000 of $ to be disapointed,..The pricetag is hillarious high on the XM,...shame on Roland,...They dosen´t live up to their statement "We design the future",.....any more maybe in the 1980´s this statement was true ;)
Cool, luckily there are plenty of choices :)
They could have kept them damn keys, shaved another couple bucks off and gave us a desktop module.
hahahaha I feel you! I'm not mad at having keys as I prefer being able to play something directly, but if it was a module nothing a small keystep or something else couldn't fix! The sound engine is cool though!
@@SoundsAndGear similar engine to the new Fantom? If not it should be for the cost of that bad boy. AND SOME!
They both use the same Zen Core engine, but the Fantom doesn't have these synth model engines yet.
@@SoundsAndGear the Fantom is 4k, Roland better be throwing every technology they have into that bad boy!
Exactly HAHAHAHAHA
What a disappointment! Roland could've used their Zen chip in a compact AC/DC-operable "Grab & Go" Workstation Keyboard like this: creativetechnerds.jimdo.com/synth-project/ *Scroll down to find it. Now this is something gigging/ touring keyboardists and project-studio synthesists could actually use ( -and that no other synth manufacturer is currently making! ). Death to big, bulky "boat-anchor" workstation keyboards!
That grab and go would be a cool idea, especially the audio tracks. I don’t mind the size of the Xm though, personally I dig it. Small enough for most setups and not heavy at all. I don’t dig but it’s nice to be able to move around the house easily with it lol
Hipster machine that adds nothing to my synth collection. Internal speakers and keybed are a complete waste of money. They should have made this a rack or desktop module like the V-Synth XT. The AI Arpeggiator is a mess, because it reacts in an uncontrolable way. This should cost not much more than a JD-Xi. I would compare it with a Korg KingKORG, if it had a real keybed.
This definitely isn't for everyone. The keys are in direct response to a rack/desktop that would require a keyboard anyway. I dig it, I don't use the arp, but the amount of sounds in a small space without needing another keyboard is dope. Price is what it is, we'd always be happy to pay less.
System 8 seems better. Just uglier. Thinking Roland decided to make this new synth instead of just giving system 8 a makeover
I always wanted a System 8, that's actually what got me interested in the new Jupiter (actually always wanted one of the Jupiter 60/80 also). I do like the multiple models it has, including the XV and Piano, and I imagine they will add more...hopefully. It will also be interesting to see if they add those models to the Fantom, that could really turn it into a true beast if they keep updating it.
@@SoundsAndGear and it will be so.
@@alexmax9832 Looking forward to watching the development of both platforms!
Pointlesss!
Yet....here you are lol.
Behringer is making gear that is far and away better than roland
Guess it depends on what you want. They are all making useful tools imo. I have gear from both, and many others. I really don't care who makes it, if I like it, I'll use it hahaha.
SoundsAndGear that’s understandable but all those VA boutique synths are just about making money and not making a good product. The same goes for the TR8 and TR8S. VA is about low cost of production.
@@SourDiesel69 Considering how low of cost Behringer is making their products, I don't think that's really an issue. (Not complaining, I'm happy they are making stuff that is more affordable) I think it's just a matter of what people want and what companies want to make. I love analog but I don't have a problem with VA if it sounds good.
