Katsonori - you're the man!
You consistently produce some of the most professional and enjoyable keyboard demos on the internet - thank you!
English sub-title will soon ....
It would be awesome if someone did subtitles for the Yamaha museum walk-round :)
Very nice demo Ujiee-san!
I guess my definition of soon is different from yours.
Seems to be about four days
All your base are belong to us....
Bravo! This is really a demo from a real musician! Even if we do not understand your words - it explains everything with your music! Thank you very much for posting. All best wishes!
The best demo of the Jupiter Xm. I had no idea it sounded so good. Thank you.
A perfect demonstration by an accomplished musician. Mr. Katsunori stands above most because he understands synthesis and electronic music, plus a trained pianist and composer. I always look for his presentations.
Ok.
🤣
The subtitles are spot on. You nailed his character perfectly. 👏👏
You’re demos are awesome and I love your playing. So talented.
Great demo of the synth and it’s sounds. Nice to hear it played so well. Thank you for posting this.
i could listen to katsonori play all day. what a synth god
1000% true
@@NicoIasTravolta wrong, 1000000000000000000% true : P
If you like his playing then you should like his opinion on how he thinks this synth is close to the original synths he's comparing it too.
George Georgio I got it last week. It’s a dream Machine! I love my Jup XM
Straight of the bat Ujie, is back in his youth and hammering out those lovely suspended 80’s synthwave chords. Such a great sound. Arguably even better and more period correct that my System8 sounds.
Great review!
I love this guy! We can see he's having fun
you are one of the few synth reviewers who can really play well
skyreader society true. he is a real player and musician. old school.
nick batts reviews from sonicstate are more technically detailed.
best synth reviewer on the planet.
Sounds very nice and warm. Just gotta stop eating for a few months...
Divinital they added that too? Oh man oscillatie drift is the core of analogue sounds
Tried that baby at a music store in my hometown until my seven year old daughter showed up&it was hard to get her away from that awesome machine...already a legend!
(Here's what the letters mean on the Xm)
R = Roland
M = Moog
S = Sequential Circuits

Beautiful review as always my dear friend!
He is the best reviewer by far...
As always with UJIIE-san, very helpful demo!
And for those wondering (like me): US$1500.
THE BOSS SAMURAI Katsunori HERE !!!
Sounds great. His JX-8P sounds different to mine - quite a bit of variation between models with aging electronics. More so than the difference between the digital recreation and the original. Just shows how we could never expect a completely exact emulation.
Man that Jupiter 6 sounds so good!!!!
True
We don't think Roland will be able to make a digital equivalent anytime soon. The analog originals are magic!
Great demo as always :)
cool sound!!
気持ちいい音ですねー
love your style man!
for some reason i always come back to this synth.. it sounds pretty good and would be good for performance
I don't understand a word of japanese but I soon forget that everytime I watch your videos
U would if u put on the subtitles :)
Music is an universal language.
amazing playing always!
It becomes really interesting at 21:01 when our friend is teaching us how to layer the parts! Thanks for this TEACHING moment!
ItaloDisco4U why is it that most synths seem to have very similar sounds ? When your hear songs by artists who use synths it sounds like they must have got their sounds from somewhere else
@@liveanadventure429 Roland Jupiter Xm takes its name from the 1978 Jupiter, so it is part of the Roland legacy. Jupiter Xm is a collection incorporating the original sounds of JUPITER-8, JUNO-106, and SH-101, XV-5080 and RD pianos. It is a "BEST OF" product. This is a digital synth emulating famous Roland famous sounds, I'm sure you've been exposed to many of them. The artists using synths do a lot of layering (place sounds on top of other sounds) and maybe that is why you think they've got other sources. Jupiter Xm does this layering possible, so I advice you to experiment more with any synth and you'll get the satisfactory sounds you expect.
@@DragoshHits Also there were synth programmers and sound engineers adding FX effects which can change sound significantly
@@luc7976 Absolutely! I agree with that!
Mr katsunori UJIIE 💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I hear Bruce Hornsby in your playing! Thanks for the demo, my next synth I hope!
The Jupiter Xm is becoming my favorite board of all time. The sound quality is very good and the VA engine is a big improvement from the Supernatural synth (Fa 06 owner). The quality of the analog emulations are almost identical to their ACB counterparts. My ears are unable to hear the difference between ACB and ABM even if Roland has said that ACB is more powefull in details I am unable to hear them and I have done some test with my Jupiter Xm and the Roland cloud plug ins. I am even convinced that the Jx 8p model sounds richer and warmer than the original hardware analog synth, but that may be do to the better sounding effects and coding. The big advantage is being able to layer 5 parts of the models with great sound quality (part 5 reserved for drum sounds) and jam with them. This board is very musical and fun with an easy user interface. The machine is very deep and has the power to sound modern and vintage regarding the synth programming and playing style. The I arp is extremely easy and intuitive and is far more than just a gimmick. Last night I spent hours playing synthwave with the vintage models and the I arp and it is super fun ! Roland has finally proven the true power of their analog modeling plug ins by putting them together in a performance oriented synth. I am wondering if that kind of complexity and layering could be possible with analog components in a single board ? What about the price and quality ? Now I understand and agree 100% with the Roland philosophy of using modern tech (coding and chips) rather than living in the past (analog components) for this kind of product. However, I would love to see a JdXa follow up with ABM crossed with 8 voice analog polysynth for some epic layers.
I like that UJIIE is still wearing the old analog watch in this world of High Tech.
Sir you the best keyboard player when it comes to synthsizer reviews...
pretty impressive, would like to try one.
Great sound, and so compact!!
Fantastic, Katsunori!!!! The Roland Jupiter-Xm is on my list as the next "MUST HAVE" synthesizer in my studio! Great demo! A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Word up!
Outstanding demo.

懐かしい〜
That outro jam tho 🔥
Yeah...Every katsonori Video could be a Soundtrack!!!
Beautiful sounds!
First enjoyable demo of this synth.
I'm on board!...I hope to have one by next summer. I think the Xm sounds fit my genre better than the original synths he demoed... The resolution sounds better. Damn, Katsurnori was playing the hell out of that RD model!! Wow...and the layering at 21:53. There is so much ground covered here, all you need is your own unique ways to temper the sound. Multi-samples and keygroups are going to sound great!
Not sure what you mean by resolution, when all of the original synths were analog. Resolution specifically has to do with digital audio's sample rate and bit depth, and by definition could never be better than analog.
If you mean clarity, any difference in clarity is probably due to analog circuitry in the original synths adding unwanted bass frequencies that muddy up the mix. They can be EQ'd or filtered out pretty easily.
I thought the Jupiter-6 sounded better, but the Xm is a very nice synth.
@@jc3drums916 LOL yeah "clarity" i guess...but the XM sound is more appealing to me. I'd never spend money on the older synths with an updated version available that's way more flexible. But a synth collector may feel differently...
Wow.. that JX8P sounds so good
Wow, I want to sound like that. All I need is 40 years of talent and experience!
Lol.
Thumbs-up because true. And because so many people seem to forget that skill is the single most important factor in making good music... having nice gear is a relatively tiny part of the equation.
You only need 3-4 years of constant practice.
English sub-titles is available !!
This Jupiter XM sounds amazing and of course it never hurts to have Katsunori Ujiie at the helm. Are all the same sounds and aspects of the Jupiter XM available in the Jupiter X but with the full size keybed? I have to wonder as Roland has a way of separating sounds and what not almost in an attempt to create a need (want) for both lol.
the Xm sounds quite nice, albeit a bit louder and brighter than some of the originals. suits the modern musical sound sets.
Yeah, that sounds pretty good!
Sounds awesome to me
Nice instrument and video, is it possible to make some kind of JX 10/MKS 70 cross modulations with it?
26:10 And then Mr. Katsunori starts playing Italo-Disco and it's great, I could only expect that from Paolo from SynthMania.
Juno strings at 19:50 sound really good.
Perfect player
Closing song... was that all live out of the synth using the arpeggiator? Because there is a video cut then the bass doesn't follow the left hand exactly. Was that mixed later or straight of the synth? Does the arp seem to be more of a style on an arranger instead of a traditional arpeggiator.
great demo... ..lots of anti Roland and pro behringer vibes around at the moment ,.but this one is very interesting..sounds good....
これは・・・ほしいぞっ!!!
Roland should make a mini workstation based on this form factor bit smaller pots like boutique range synths. Basic drum machine and sequencer. Would be a huge hit!
This keyboard only emulates analogue but how does it compare to similar analogue VSTs? For me they all sound very good and similar. I'm just wondering what would be the motivation to purchase this?
Lovely demo.. Clearly Roland are "not chasing ghosts" using modelling from the SH-101, JX Juno, and Jupiter series.
Lol.. but its nice to have it all sort of crammed into one small keyboard
氏家さん、アップルウォッチはもうつけなくなったのかな?
No baka hana shi here, that mini synth is the real deal!

lovely roland synth
it claims alot!
FANTOMのレビューもお願いしたいなぁ
I have it and love it. Just wish the keys had aftertouch and that the sequencer were a bit more intuitive. But it’s an amazing machine otherwise.
I may not speak Japanese, but I feel like I understood the gist of this - the Xm sounds awesome
I don't either, but the English captions worked well for me.
It’s like Roland crossed a JD-Xi with an AIRA System 1. Not that that is a bad thing. It appears to have one of those scaled down, low travel, spongy keybeds? Tone wise, It certainly sounds nice... but are we just seeing yet another way for Roland to get more mileage their retro plug-out range?
I WISH KATSUNORI UJIIE WAS MY DAD
No, it's mine but I'm french... possible, no ?
Hi, Im your Mam!!
I will marry Katsunori !!
Coming soon...
Katsunori: I am old man, nobody want to marry me
Reality: this entire comment section
Is it possible to match the single presets in category’s??
I want one!!
Good review (If you speak Nihon), covers the reproduction accuracy between vintage gear and the XM and a little of the iArpeggiator. Doesn't cover the sound design aspects.
That's Awesome
Make it a rackmount module without that tiny keybed and I'd love to have one. The big daddy, the Jupiter X wilth its larger octave range is a maybe for me when it hits.
Me too
Thats a shitty idea. It's small already.
Yeah, I dislike the small keys, would prefer a module.
But this baby even run on batteries so you can take it with you everywhere :-) As a JDXi User and love that small Keybed this is next on my shopping list!
The XM just sounds clearer to me. Not unexpected as it’s brand new and being compared to 30 year+ old vintage synths. Considering how much the vintage ones cost these days and being worried about them getting damaged or stolen on tour, the XM is a safer alternative.
No. It isn’t.
2:41辺りで思わず「出ましたぁ!」と言ってしまった。
Sounds nice.
Zen core . and so much more. Main use case... Its portable speaker, battery , and light whaaaaaat. This is a game changer
A lot of classic JV-1080 patches carried over here!
The Xm sounds richer than the originals. Of course it has to do with the internal FX, but also with the added high-end. Also I love the desitnctive sound of a VA above cold real analog. I think there is no reason to buy the originals at extreme prices anymore. Especially when the differences aren't really noticable in a mix.
My thoughts exactly , i mean who is going to tell the difference nowadays , i want a real analogue synth but my my VA synths sound great and they are stable
I like both
VA's can't come anywhere hear the CS-80, and that includes in the mix as well. Keep dreaming.
@@saladdays180s9 you are of course assuming that the CS80 is in good working condition and in place for the recording. Because if you had to buy it, fix it and ship it to the studio, you would probably have a very different experience.
Prot Eus
Actually I have two CS-80’s and a CS-60.
It was only after experiencing one in person that I realized it was quite special among synths. Yes, they are expensive to maintain. So are F1 race cars.
The digital Roland Jupiter’s sound ok, and are fine sans the most discerning of ears.
You couldn’t show me a CS-80 clone in a mix of any length however, that doesn’t betray itself as a fraud.
Personally I would like to see Roland make 3 octaves keys version of this using the MC101 with an even more compact size and better user interface design. Something between Yamaha PSS A50 and Teenage Engineering OPZ.
6:52 wow man
Presets are okay for people who like them but I would like to see how it behaves when twiddling the knobs to build and evolve sounds on the fly.
すてきです。マシーンも喜んで応えてる!
Gosh it has some good sounds in there doesn't it
🤝🤔🥰🥳✌🏻✊super Sound.Thank you.
It's droolworthy - but I'll probably add a JD-Xi to my boutique suite feeding into the Roland 800 Controller, for now, at a third the price. As a solo mobile workstation with a full range of vintage Jupiter sounds the J-Xm looks and sounds great. Love the metal construction too plus the wireless features (bluetooth, wireless midi, battery - all great). Love the arpeggiator, but for that price I'd like a sequencer too. Has a nice drum library tho. Something that is lacking on the JD-XA.
I dont think the JDXi will be adding much to your boutique setup, bit limiting patch wise.
The JDXi is nice, I use it a lot for drum tracks and the analogue track for bass tracks, connected as slave to my Yamaha Modx7. But the Jupiter Xm is on my shopping list.
It does have a 64-step sequencer per part.
Zen-core? AMD CPU + Algorithm ?
NICE!
22:14 - Roland JV style!
But How much is it??
Should I buy this or a Fantom?😏😏😏😏😏😏
Arigatou oshieruhito.
26:30 What drum machine is this? sounds like a Linn? perhaps a TR-707?
Linn
littlegee thanks, quite odd though as the descriptions online just say Roland kits
