I became a city fan in 2014. I was 10 years old, and was travelling in etihad airways so that was practically the first time i watched football and knew what it was. I started watching city then. 8 years gone by.
I have had so many people telling me i support because of their recent success. calling me a 'plastic fan'
these people dont realise that being a united supporter in '99 is equally good as being a city fan now.
They ask me what club did support in the 90s. BRO. PEOPLE ARE ALSO BORN AFTER 2000.
You were 10 years old. You supported them because they were winning (or perhaps the way they were playing at that time).
A plastic fan is a fan who supports more than one club, who stops following football when their team does not do well.
City have many of these & that’s mainly because of your owners & their marketing strategy. There are plastic fans but that’s adults switching teams … this bamboozles me.

As an American, City were one of the only clubs to take a chance on some of the best American players, like Reyna and Beasley, plus they had grit, so it was easy to be a supporter, plus I wasn't a United fan

As an oldie...I must say a huge Bravo to you & to witness this vid from such young City fans. It's 'massive' for young Blues to be educated on City.. & to educate young fans of other so called 'bigger Clubs.' Try & do an attendances/crowds history...take from Dr. Garry James the City historian for facts & figures. This oldie watched City in the mid sixties...& still goes 💙
The very existence of this video proves that city is 'just an oil club', there was very little history prior to the takeover and the club was equivalent to a Palace or Wolves today, bouncing back and forth between the 2nd and 1st tier - having seen some great success in decades prior. It's curious how you don't focus much on the history and instead spend most of the video talking about the post takeover era.
Whilst the club had a good hardcore following, and still does in areas of east Manchester today, it's telling that the club's fan count skyrocketed after 2008 and even many of the people in this comment section are commenting 'I've been a fan for 15/10/5 years!'. There are "real" city fans, the ones that were there before 2008, that slummed it out through decades of dross football and came together to save their club. That is not what City is anymore.
The oil club moniker is applied to clubs that have been drastically altered or transformed by being bought by those with immense wealth - the very definition of Man City.
The city that was there before 2008 is gone, its heritage crushed by the destruction of Maine road, and supplanted by a corporate block of a stadium. What is left of the old Citeh is a petro-state corpse masquerading as a Mancunian football club.
Every top team spends lot of money to reach higher level... only jelous says City is oil club... C'mon City 💙💙

City used to be a people’s club but since the emirati takeover there is little of this identity left. They’ve spend their money better if you compare them to PSG but they’re still examples of sportswashing and reputation laundering projects of gulf states. They’ve broken so many financial fair play rules as well. The emergence of the city world group with feeder clubs across the world is another example of how they’re ruining football. The city project has been very succesfull and it has a clear philosophy but it remains very much an oil money club.
