  • This is a basic walk-through on how to replace the original Rubatex foam padding in a Cooper SK2000 hockey helmet. I do a lot of these, so I get my foam custom precision cut from a large supplier in my area as this is cost effective for me. In this video I reuse the original mounting pieces but there are other alternatives out there if you don't want to do that or don't have those pieces to start with.
Once again, I'm sorry for the long video. I just can't figure out how to cut much more out of it and not give a sense of the full project. The last thing I want to do is make it seem like a 5 minute job or miss any of the experience tips I've picked up after doing many of these.
Also, apologies for the video quality. I'm not very good at staying in the frame for these type of videos so I try to compensate by filming a larger area and then cropping to the important field of view...and yet I still end up doing things at the edge of the frame.

GREAT video! I'm a non-goalie, still sporting my Cooper SK2000 from youth hockey 35 years ago. Definitely in need of new foam!

Great Video, I would imagine this is going to add a lot of value to those who still use this helmet. I am lovin' the new intro as well!

I just refoamed my sk2000 with re foam from resilant goalie. They also restore sk2000s and they sell a Tim thomas style fiberglass mask as well.

Great video! What kind of foam do you use? Do you have a digital template for the foam?

I was using Minicell foam. But nowadays I just recommend people reach out to Ed Cubberly on facebook. He sells foam kits and other accessories for the SK2000 helmets.

For the original foam that comes out of these helmets (like the Cooper HH3000's and CCM HT2's), what would you recommend as far as an adhesive goes to get the foam to stick back to the plastic shell? The original adhesive looks like a rubber cement or hot glue snot wad - do you know what that is if I'm trying to anchor my foam pieces back to the plastic shell? Great vids, and thanks in advance!

Contact Cement is probably the best best. That's most likely what was used on them originally based on your description.
