HAAHHA the flying plane noise
I did a spit take when he cut to that!
Your channel has really improved in quality the intro are very well made, the sound has improved, the rythme is much better and you manage to use humour. And as always one can feel the genuine passion for the watch world that we are all sharing :)
" You cannot shortchange your grail, you got to go all the way." That works well in life TGV. Great vid !
Thank you SN ;-)
I was a very expensive lesson in lean ring that one!
Best regards,
TGV
Love your honesty around the Rolex GMT price!! This is a Video in itself!! Great Episode TGV!! All the best Sir.. BMJ ENGLAND
You and this channel are just so classy, TGV. I love it! Keep it up!
You've really stepped your game up lately, TGV. Keep up the great work!
Great video TGV! Love the pepsi and you hit the nail right on the head with this one! Thanks for your great videos.
Thank you Michael, very kind.
Best regards,
TGV
This is my favorite! What a great time to be alive! 10/10 Must buy
Absolutely! Thank you Robert, I could not agree more.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
This is the watch that got me into watches. I saw a picture of it and was immediately struck by how well designed it was. I understood how it worked almost instantly, and the GMT has since become my favorite complication. Unfortunately for this Rolex, it has since been replaced by the Glycine Airman as my grail GMT watch.
Thank you BL, what a fantastic watch to get you into watches.
You gateway watch! The Airman is just as much IMO, maybe not as equally prestigious but I find myself lusitn after the 36mm one all the time. May I ask which one you have?
Best regards,
TGV
Like you, I've been after the 36mm "No. 1", although I initially intended on getting the 39mm Airman 18 (with a sapphire crystal and a screw down crown). The vintage look of the No.1 just does it for me. Unfortunately a lack of funds has prevented me from getting one as of yet, but I'm hopeful that I might be able to acquire one within the next two years.
As for the Rolex, I've been able to handle it several times thanks to some wealthy relatives. It truly is something special. Wear it in good health my friend.
The Urban Gentry I just picked up the airman 39mm TGV ..My smallest watch but very very nice indeed...As you would say, IM CHUFFED TO BITS with it!
me too.
Great watch! I own one..it's the only rmw in my collection ..about the bracelet I'm planning to put a leather nato on it..what do you think? Any suggestions for right color?
Hey TGV, great video as always. I recently bought a green seiko snk805. What colour leather strap do you think would go well with the watch?
TGV I must say finding your channel has been sort of a mixed blessing for me m8. Pandora's box has opened and a watch obsession is in the making ;) I love how you're enthousiastic about entry level watches as well as luxury watches.
Just bought my first serious purchase (SRP777) and I'm sure a SARB065 will follow this year. I really like the price vs quality that Seiko offers. Keep it up. Greets from the Netherlands.
P.S. how in earth is it possible than an SKX lover as yourself hasn't reviewed the new Turltle yet! New years resolution? :P
TGV, I really like the look of your GMT, looks great. Enjoy wearing it.
Thank you Bob! :D Will do.
Best regards,
TGV
Hey TGV!
What strap could i pair with a tissot visodate heritage (black and silver)?
I just bought one and would like to put it on a new strap. Thanks!
best regards
Jordan
Great buy! Congrats,
I would go with something distressed from Colareb in a dark brown.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
great video Tristano. gmt is one of my favourite complications too. Being in the UK and already on the GMT timeline I have my GMT hand set to the 24hour time which I find handy. A bit like one would on an explorer 2.
Thank you Brian, oh yes I forgot you could do that too, love it.
Best regards,
TGV
Great vid as always. I own a '94 GMT and I don't find the date that annoying because one can go back and forth so one doesn't have to go through an entire month forward. I would have preferred quick change date but find it's a small price to pay for this gorgeous watch! Thank you!
I recently when to a new dentist and once I was in the chair I said: "Is it safe?" He was a guy and he just laughed, he got the joke.
Just watched this, as I got my first GMT watch... a Zenith Elite Dual Time.
It is incredibly thin, with wonderful sexy curvaceous lugs, and at 38mm it fits great.
The 2nd time zone hand is changed by a recessed pusher. Not as easy as Rolex, but no worries as I rarely alter it.
Hey TGV, Did you ever get the jubilee for that? Been thinking of getting a jubilee for my Exp. 2 polar.
Yes, I discuss it in this video.
Thank you Jerry,
Best regards,
TGV
Thanks! I guess I'm impatient. Still watching it.
Hi TGV. Can you recommend an inexpensive jubilee bracelet?
Best regards,
Joe
***** Thanks Tyler.
What is 'the jubilee'?
Nice video - not a fan of the Jubilee bracelet style (prefer the Oyster style) but overall the GMT Master is a very cool watch. At a local gathering of watch nuts here got to see a well aged GMT Master - you're right, the bezel colours get better with age! Ciao, John
I am considering the GMTII vs. the Submariner Date. Which would you recommend?
the plane effct :) I love it as always your making your videos special, keep it up ;)
In love this with watch. Would love an option to buy this if you ever get "bored" of it LOL
Cheers,
Chad
Haha, I will keep that in mind ;-)
Thank you Chad,
Best regards,
TGV
Hi TGV, is the clasp you show at 10:43 different to the first one you show?
Great informative video as always, thank-you Tristano..!
Mr Lennie!!!!! Thank you sir :D
Best regards,
TGV
Yo! My dad was an aviation mechanic, started in the late 5O's with PanAm at Laguardia until the company shut its doors-great review!
Wow, what a cool story and yet so sad it came to an end. I pass by the airport all the time.
Thank you for sharing,
Best regards,
TGV
Hey TGV. Where did you end up purchasing the jubilee bracelet from. I'd like to make the switch on my Pepsi.
I'm lucky enough to have just acquired one of these with a jubilee strap. Looks great with a Nato too. Great review.
Whoops, just realised mine is a 'coke' apparently. Black and dark red.
Hi TGV, as an ardent followers of your channel and inheriting from your knowledge, I’m unable to decide between Explorer 2 or GMT Master. Any thoughts?
You are killing it sartorially Tristano!
3:02 haha ;-)
KS
Hi! I've been watching quite some time your videos and you make great content. You obviously know well what you're talking about. Keep it going, man!
I've been searching also GMT Master 2 Ref. 16710 with Pepsi bezel. Definitely I want that older slimmer elegant case but because I also want it to be everyday watch I don't want to go true vintage. Gladly these "newer" -98 - 2007 models have this vintage look and feeling and yet modern tech. Could you plase tell me what are good places to buy Rolex's Jubilee bracelets online? If I can't find a right watch with Jubilee I would want to buy it separately. Cheers!
hi.. my father just gave me a vintage giorgio beverly hills watch for my 18 birth day and i would like to know more information about it, i searched the internet but i could not find any catalogs or great info... just the basics
so TGV do you know anithing about giorgio watches???
Those loud horns will be the death of me at work. Once again, great 5&5 video.
Please make a video as soon as you receive your jubilee bracelet, I can already imagine how great it will look, great video as always.
Thank you Dean. What is maddening, it arrived just as I was editing the video. Wearing the Jubilee as we speak.
Next week deffo!!
Best regards,
TGV
Hey TGV, I've noticed that in almost all of your reviews of luxury watches that you generally mention the same downside: Price. I've been thinking about this point and of course you're right, you're essentially paying thousands of dollars more for only a (relatively) slight increase in quality. However the high price of these watches also add to the experience of a luxury watch, saving up for a new watch and looking forward to it is kind of half the fun in my opinion. So my question to you is, what price do you think is fair for the GMT taking all this into account?
Love the video and the watch I have a 17613 myself however I fail to understand why The bezel turning from red to PINK would be a good thing LOL! Keep making the great videos👍
Hey TGV, have you ever owned a zodiac watch or would you consider adding one to your collection? I recently bought a zodiac seawolf compression and I love every aspect of it. It was one of my first big purchases and really has a unique design. I’d consider looking into them right now, especially the vintage ones seeing that they are still fairly priced and you can find originals from he 50’s and 60’s. Anyway, good videos, keep it up!
Does anybody knows what camera is he using? I'm curious about his filming equipment, tried searching around but couldn't find anything... ty in advance
Ha ha ha ha . Not only that we have same Hobby Master Ju-52 Junkers, but we play with it just as same. Only difference is that I wear my Rolex Air 116900 while playing. LOL BIG LIKE Sir!
LOL great comment my friend, truly made me chuckle.
Thank you Mike,
Best regards,
TGV
On the other side TGV its the hype that can make a watch that does not have a inhouse movement keeping a serious price ;)
Ah, nice to hear you are finally getting the Jubilee. Can't wait to see it, I haven't checked out the clasps on the new ones.
Thank you. You know what is maddening, it arrived just as I was editing the video.
Oh well, next week!
Best regards,
TGV
Hi TGV. With the 3185 you can set the date backwards. So going from 1-29 would be very easy would it not?
TGV I'm considering saving up to buy a Rolex Batman GMT. How do you think this compares to the Rolex Pepsi GMT.
Another excellent video. I cannot find anything wrong with my Everyday carry Coke bezel 16710. It WAS love at first sight and could not find a substitute right now from 1998.
What's your opinion on mother of pearl watches for men? I saw this great tissot mother of pearl which was unisex and actuality looks great!
Can you do a video of budget GMT style movements? Thanks!!
TGV I think that was spot on. I actually handled probably the same reference ( i mean a late 90s model) just yesterday and yes it is gorgeous but for the price? I just feel it is too much...
Hi TGV,
Great discussion on the iconic Rolex GMT Master II. I enjoy your reviews and candid observations on different watch brands and the industry itself. I especially like your videos with Federico.
Right now, I am wearing a slight homage to the Rolex GMT Master II in the form of the Loyal Conquer GMT Automatic, which is an Australian brand. It was a gift from my Mother. It has its own unique elements with a beautiful sunburst blue dial and a stainless steel bezel insert and its 300m water resistant. The watch, which only cost $500, has outlasted a TAG Heuer and a Raymond Weil that were each worth $2000. I've worn it swimming, at work and going out to dinner with family or friends and it still works and looks as good as it did the day I received it.
I can see why a lot of brands release their homage or their own unique version of the Rolex GMT Master II as it is has such an elegant, yet simple, and clean design. It has become an icon and still tops a lot of lists as the best watch for international travellers. I understand why wearing one with either the "Pepsi" or "Coke" bezel with a suit can be somewhat of faux pas, but if you wear the models with the black ceramic bezel (ref. 116710LN or ref. 116713LN) you would be able to pull it off.
Nice review, very good job. My only comments is about your negative point related to the date change, from my point of view it has been specifically designed in that way to make more easy when you are traveling, I have an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT it's the similar, btw would very nice if you make a review of that watch. ;)
I have the GMT Master 15700 model ( mk1.) with a black bezel. I love this watch, and always keep the bezel to GMT during summer when to my chagrin we move the clocks here in the UK to BST. This watch is very accurate still well within COSC limits even though it is now 20 yrs. old now. As for the increasing value, I was astonished to find that in the 6 yrs I have owned this watch, whereas I could just about afford it then, I could not now, at current prices, it has nearly triple the price I paid originally!.
Hahaha i can see you stalking your package from USPS! i do the same (:
Great video as always TGV.
Haha indeed! Everyday ;-)
Thank you Edward,
Best regards,
TGV
Maybe I missed a reference but who makes the band shown at 4:48 in the video? Fell in love with this watch (early GMT-Master) as a kid and ended up buying a new one in 1987 (GMT-Master II 16760 Coke Bezel). Caught bloody hell for an $1800 (at the time) watch purchase but boy has it served me well for 30+ years. Would never sell but certainly might pass down some day. Cheers!
Hi TGV
My annoyance over the GMT master is that i really want one where the dial turned from red to fuchsia pink but for some reason people want to add and extra 5 to 10k on top of the already ridiculous price tag for those ones!
Been wearing mine with a Jubilee for nearly 30years. its only been off my wrist when I had surgery. Its had a hard life on film sets working with cameras and lights. I have other watches but I never wear them..
The Jubilee is a good call, its a much more comfortable band, although it tugged on my arm hair when it was new..
I adore your channel mate, im looking at the Blue/Black GMT or the Yachtmaster, what would you go for personally and why?
Thank you George, I truly appreciate that.
Off the bat, Yachty all day. I owned the previous ceramic GMT before I owned my sub and I just didn't take to it. Don't get me wrong that "batman" is a wonderful change of bezel, but the yachty has such class and wear so much better for me, it really is no comparison. But of course this is totally IMO, go with your heart and what you would enjoy more! Both solid choices, you can not go wrong either way.
Happy hunting,
Best regards,
TGV
Cheers mate, I see the Yachtmaster in very much the same light, Its always a good idea as a medical professional to not draw too much attention to a timepiece. Thanks for helping me out.
Kind Regards,
GAW III
I own the 16700. Just like you it was my grail and it will be a life long companion, I hope the bezel insert will fade. I agree with all your points but mine has the quick set date function, so that's no problem.
My GMT Master is from 1991 so the clasp is very dated but I love the bracelet. Also I like how simple Rolex with the blue and red helps you indicate day and night with the bezel.
RE the date change...Is that a common problem or trait of watches with a jump hour function? I've got an Omega that functions the same way - you need to move the hour hand forward to change the date. However, before I bought the watch I was also looking at a Reverso with the second timezone on the reverse (a kind of GMT then), and the date could only be changed the same way (no quick set date). If JLC and Rolex don't have a quick set date on watches with a jump hour/independent hour hand function, it makes me think no one does. Is that right?
Another Great Video!
Great video! Love the Pepsi my self as well. Unfortunately, I'm with you and I consider them too expensive, well too bad, I guess... LOL, it seems it's too late to buy too many watches now!! WHYYYY??
Any news about your SKX? Hope everything get fixed as soon as possible!
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Michele.
What watch are you tracking on the USPS Tracking screen behind you?
nevermind... u answered the question after i posted this... ;)
what is your opinion on the AP 15202 jumbo royal oak. hope you're having a great day.
I am not crazy about it. I posted an AP on ins tram I REALLY like.
Not a massive Genta fan I must be honest, sorry.
But what I think does not matter, more importantly, how do you feel about them?
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
I'm surprised you didn't mention the size of the crown. It's very small. At first I found it very hard to screw back in. Also, as a 'love' I'd have mentioned the ability to set the hour hand independently. Enjoyed the video :)
Excellent point and truthfully I did consider it. But I have got so used to it, I didn't feel it was much of an issue and in a strange way I like it smaller. However, when I first got it I was a bit surprised.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Hey TGV, Could you perhaps do a video on 'True GMT' vs ETA based GMT and show their differences?
Hey TGV,
Would you mind telling me what NYC borough/neighbourhood is the best in terms of balance for ease of travel to Lower Manhattan whilst being a nice living space? I figured that the opinion of another foreigner who is a resident of NYC would be a great source of firsthand info.
Thank you and keep up the great work,
-Brody S.
Hi Brody, interesting question.
Sadly I can not help much, I have always lived in Astoria for mostly the last 10 years and a short while in Brooklyn, but the furthest away from the city. So I really could not say. Everyone wants to seem to live in Williamsburg for some reason, you can't get closer then that!
Happy hunting for a place, cheers.
Bst regards,
TGV
Thank you for the swift and detailed response, TGV! I appreciate it!
-Brody
It would be cool to see a Tudor pelagos and sub comparison ;). Great video
DYING to do that. I have yet to find a source to borrow a Pela, but it will happen soon!
Thank you for reminding me, I will get on to it asap.
Best regards,
TGV
Interesting episode would be a comparison between the Omega speed master professional moon watch, and the Bulova moon watch, though I'd take the speedy every time It would still be cool
Hey tgv could you please do a sub v seamaster PO comparison everyone just does a sub vs 300m witch is a bit dated plus I would love to hear your opinion. Love your videos keep up the good work buddy
Any plans to review the new Mont Blanc smart watch (summit)?
Interesting choice, I would love to but I don't think I know anyone who owns one.
Thank you Essa,
Best regards,
TGV
Love the jacket, Bladen or vintage harris tweed perhaps.
Good morning Gentry. The only negative I have would be the bracelet. It is the one thing that always keeps me away from vintage watches, wish I could get past it. Pepsi and the BLNR are my favorite GMT's. P.S. Not sure how much snow you got in Astoria but on Long Island it looks like 8-12 inch.
Thanks for the vid.
Can you please review G shock Mudmaster, the big one GWG 1000, I would love to hear your thoughts on the "Tank"
OMG, I would LOVE to!!! Let me see if I have access to one.
Great choice,
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry I can already see your reaction to it......it's too big for me haha
Im wearing my 16750 right now. Yes, the Oyster bracelet is a bit of a weak spot if compared to lets say Omega Seamaster/Speedmaster but it looks so good. I have tried on a few other straps (nato) but its just not the same. The beauty of the watch fades a bit without the Oyster bracelet in my opinion.
lagus76 looks even better on the jubilee imho
Well, I'm not a fan of the jubilee at all. It belongs on the lady Datejust imho
i totally agree with you lagus, the Oyster is my favorite bracelet by far
Hi TGV, I own one and I feel the same about the lugs compared with other watches. Would like to see a review about a Fortis watch, very robust timepieces with an amazing history (first self-winding wristwatch, one of first waterproof wristwatch, world's first chronograph alarm) and used by many airlines and Air Force Squadrons. Regards
talking about aviation watches what about the forgotten Omega Flightmaster?!
Love it! Debating getting a 1971 (birth year) 1675 GMT Master versus this newer version. And Pepsi or black bezel??? Aarrrhg!
That is a tough choice. I personally would go newer, I like the subtle changes in the design, and I feel the black bezel is even more versatile. But don't listen to me, go with your heart ;-)
Thank you Tony, happy hunting!
Best regards,
TGV
Tony Ko enjoy setting the date without a quickset ;) lol
I have a 1980 version. The clasp is so thin that I need to bend it to keep the tension on a fairly regular basis. That aside the bracelet wears like butter and the watch has kept perfect time for 37 years without ever having been opened. I have to agree with you about the price of the new ones-not worth the money. Rolex's profit margins must be astronomical! Great video.
My girl thinks thats the fake pepsi, Its really the 009 hahaha.
Netflix has stepped their game way up. Medici, Versailles, Borgia (Borgia is AWESOME), Marco Poloetc etc etc.
Outstanding review sir.
Thank you my friend, glad you are enjoying it too. Jeremy Irons was amazing in Borgias (the older one), have not seen the new one. They also have new Black Mirror apparently.
Best regards,
TGV
TGV,
I'm a new subscriber, and I love your content! I'm just getting into watch collecting, and all of your videos have been both encouraging and informative! Thank you for what you do!
Love your Tissot...
Try the original clasp, ahead of Rolex, on the JLC Reverso Gran Sport, all the micro adjustments inside the clasp, every link has a spring bar, beautiful matts and polished elements, also seen on JLC masters!
That bracelet was on sale in 2006.
Nice! So funny, I was looking at one just the other day on Chrono24.
Thank you Simon, great choice,
Best regards,
TGV
Can we get a video purely on buying Vintage GTM Pepsi's. I/E what to look out for, dial swaps, hands etc. Also information regarding Tritium dials/Patina's
Hey mate, i've got two suggestions of watches you could try that are somewhat "different". There are the Vostok models from russia, some of which are special editions of vintage soviet models, all automatic, crazy value for the price.
Or else there are the LACO watches from germany, they are retro models inspired by Luftwaffe models, since Laco was the main supplier of the whermacht back in the days. Interesting...
Hi TGV, I noticed you have 3 mice for your pcs.. can i recomend a programme called synergy :) you will only have to use 1 mouse for all 3 pcs.
Also its free! :)
Good enough for Thomas Sullivan Magnum. Good enough for me.
quick "get to the point" intro. good work 👌😊
Thank you Vanessa :D
Always appreciated.
Bes tregards,
TGV
Will you discuss the latest TAG Heuer Aquaracer? Would be so nice thank you! Great channel!
Do you mean the Ceramic or the one I reviewed recently?
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Yeah the ceramic one.. WAY211A i guess.
TGV has anyone ever told you, you look like Gavin out of Gavin and Stacey haha. Great vid. Cheers
Micholas Nitchell a little bit.
Thank you, never watched it, any good?
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry its what made James Corden famous . its good.
Great video! Great watch!
Thank you Jesse,
Best regards,
TGV
Do you remember the band width of the Seiko sarb 033
Spot on TGV. I have a 1996 GMT Master II. Much nicer than the new ceramic. So elegant and classic. Must be worn with the jubilee in my opinion.
Thank you Jimbo! Very kind.
Best regards,
TGV
Tristano, in your expert opinion, what should be a Fair price for a Tissot Janeiro? including the original leather band, wooden box and papers??? HELP PLEASE!!!
Very good question. Let me say this, when I first bought one last year I paid 850. I sold it a few months later for I think around 1250, I then immediately regretted it so I re -bought it for around the same amount. However, they are not that common due being made in the few thousands and also being are COSC certified with extremely unique 30s design, I would expect to pay $1300 to $1500 and beyond.
Happy hunting, thank you.
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry thank you very much for your response! I really appreciate the help! I'll let you know the, hopefully, happy ending!!
best regards!
The Urban Gentry. Tristano, just want to thank you for your valuable opinion, as well as to share with you my recent happiness, though it was trough your channel that I first found out about this beauty! Today I received my Tissot Janeiro 263/3333, full set! Thank you!
I believe you can change the date on the GMT Master II in either direction by passing the 12 o'clock position with the hour hand. So if the watch was set to the 2nd and you want to set it to the 29th, rotate the hour hand backwards to reach the 29th (which is way faster than advancing all the way to the 29th).
Yes you can, however, I don't know why but it feels odd to do so! LOL
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Great Video!
Thank you Joe,
Best regards,
TGV
Nice video ! It's cool to be honest about your feeling on the price. I think the same, and their price and what they represent is one of the things that make me dislike this brand.
Here in Paris, most people who buy a rolex don't know anything about watches, they just buy it because it's expensive (and everybody knows it is), so it's a way to show they have money and had success in their life ... it's a status symbol.
This watch has become my new grail watch, I love the colors and functionality. If you purchase a new black bezel insert, couldn't you just switch between pepsi and an all black look like the "sub"? Due to the brand, history, size, durability, value retention and Infinite bezels and straps/bracelets options available for this watch... and especially this model with the drilled lug holes, its perfect IMO. I agree with the "price negative" its too expensive... but so far, if I had to choose one luxury watch, it would be this one. Thank you for the excellent video as always.
The first picture of Hoffman is that not the rare all blue bezel?
Can I please get the name of the song from the intro?
Hi TGV
Such a classy and wonderful watch - as Rolex watches almost always are.
Personally I prefer an Omega De Ville GMT, but I guess that's just a question of how you choose to organize a watch collection. I prefer a GMT to be more of a dress watch, all though still with a fairly good water resistance and so on...
Still, there is no doubt that this stunning Rolex is miles ahead in terms of movement and a lot of other things. And price, not least...
This brings me to my point here; you could make a video of over-/or underrated watches in a wider perspective, concerning price versus performance/quality. I know that you have already done this within certain price layers. But a video with a very broad perspective on this subject might be a very intertaining idea.
"Is it safe?" Well, I'm happy that my dentist is not as evil as this. On the other hand; Dustin hardly has to pay this one for his work😂
Thank you Kjeld,
Great Idea for a video, I will certainly consider it.
Best regards,
TGV
U can actually cycle the hour hand backward to set the date. So to change date from 1 to 29, you just cycle backward 2 days! Worse case you only need to cycle through 15 days, hope this help ease the hassle. Dont worry its design for this so u wont damage the movement. My Omega seamaster GMT also work exactly the same way. Enjoy ur GMT, love it!
Fantastic, still a lot of winding! LOL,
oh well, at least it's easier. I do miss the quickset I have to say. I guess I am being spoilt.
Thank you PTH, nice one indeed.
Best regards,
TGV
