Rolex Batgirl vs Batman vs Pepsi Watch - Everything You Need To Know: The GMT Master II & 126710BLNR

  • Over the past few years, the GMT watch category has been dominated by more affordable brands like Fortis, Yema, Lorier, and Squale, due to their fresh and varied designs, in addition to their accessible pricing. Following my disappointment at the relaunch of the Rolex Pepsi (126710), I put off reviewing the subsequent modern generation GMT-Master II offerings from the brand that started it all. But what a mistake!
Recently I had an unexpected encounter with a Rolex Batman (116710BLNR) that intrigued me enough to borrow the latest version-known as the "Batgirl"-to see if my opinion on these new GMTs has changed. Well, it has, almost to the point where I want to buy one!
Why was I so wrong before? How do they compare to my own vintage GMT-Master II "Pepsi" (16710)? What unexpected incident inspired me to look at them again? How have they improved these newer "Batgirl" GMTs to such an extent that they've changed my outlook? But most importantly, why do I consider these the best GMTs on the market? Join me for a look at the legacy of the Rolex GMT, including its fame, design, history, evolution, positives, and some negatives too-because while some watches come close to perfect, there's always something to be desired.

The GMT Pepsi on the jubilee bracelet is one of my grail watches. As a pilot (student at the moment I should add) it would be nice to have a watch related to flying in a way, even though you can find all the different timezones on your phone. I think the jubilee fits it, because even though it is supposed to be a “tool watch” I can’t see myself wearing it while working on my car or pulling weeds out of my garden. Great video as always TGV!

@@theurbangentry Hey TGV would you be able to do a video comparing the 36mm Tudor submariner to the 40mm version, I've seen your videos including it but I don't think you've done a video specifically on the 36mm Tudor sub, I believe you've since sold the 36mm sub for the 40mm.
I also love your watch history videos and would love to see more of those though they are often combined in your review of certain watches, perhaps you would consider doing more stand alone videos of that sort as your narration and videography make the videos very entertaining.

Insight on the 120 click bezel vs 24 click bezel. As a pilot I appreciate the added precision the 120 click bezels provides. There are timed approaches in aviation and the 120 click bezel allows you to set the triangle at any 1/2 minute point on your watch face. For example a 6 minute descent, you might not be able to set the bezel triangle as a reminder on a 24 click bezel since every click travels 2.5 minutes. Also some planes require you to manually switch tanks every hour so can align the 120 click bezel triangle with the hour hand no matter where that hour hand is located on the watch face. Basically the jumps on the 24 click bezel are too large. The visual transition from the super case lugs to the bracelets on post 2004 models just doesn’t look right. Either the bracelet needs to be wider, or the lugs need to be slimmer. Love my 2004 all black gmt that I bought new for less 4K USD. I think the all black gmt was discontinued because non watch people confused it with a submariner. Also love your channel!

Another entertaining and informative video, TGV! Can you review the new Tag Heuer's Aquaracer? I am thinking about buying it soon but I wanna hear your opinion. Especially the size increase to 43mm, honestly crazy big :(

I’m not a massive fan of Rolex however, there are 2 Rolex watches that I love. The 39mm Explorer - I owned one, didn’t get it, sold it and now understand what I’ve lost! 😭 and the GMT 2 Batman. I love the Jubilee bracelet with the watch and also believe that the retail price is acceptable and worth it. As for grey market prices? In my opinion, no way is any Rolex product worth the mark up in price. If you’ve got that much money to spend on a watch, there are plenty more “high horology” brands out there that offer a better product. That is just my opinion and I know others will disagree but there you go. Excellent video as always! Thank you TGV.

@TheUrbanGentry video was great and loved how you focused on the BLNR jubilee GMT. The jubilee is absolutely perfect on the BLNR GMT. Makes the watch pop, so much more class, and separates it from the sub.
As other commenters mentioned, Bruce Wayne is perfect name for this watch.

Truly iconic watch with great history told as always with engagement and genuine insight by your goodself. The GMT wouldn't be my Rolex cocktail of choice ⌚🍹(I'm more a vintage White Airking or Yacht master myself) but doesn't stop me looking and listening in awe. Video impeccably on target as always sir. 🎯. Thank you 👍

Never got to see a gmt in person, however I thought I'd always be one to want one with an aluminum bezel insert. I then one day saw a video of one up close with the ceramic bezel and it changed my perspective. So until I see both in the metal I will keep my opinions to myself!
I hope for your sake TGV they don't make the two toned version haha

Thank you very much for your effort and passion as well, this is an absolute icon for me. If there would be an only one watch collection, the Pepsi GMT Master II is the chosen model.
    Thank you!
** and obviously, with its Jubilee bracelet too.

  • @americanlegendswatches

Having recently seen a Tudor BB GMT at an AD, I just could not justify paying many times more the price of that beauty for the Rolex GMT. The color schemes of the batgirl/batman don't really float my boat, but one day, perhaps I'll pull the trigger on a bit more affordable GMT. In any event, thanks as always for the informative videos. Keep up the great work!

Great video again TGV, unfortunately it'd be easier to buy the Mona Lisa than a SS Pepsi from an AD and a lot less hassle. Probably cheaper to insure too haha. Keep up the good work.

    Hi TGV
Surely impressing! The indisputable king of GMT watches in its newest version. Even on video you can sense the quality improvement.
Still thinks the Pepsi color combo is the unbeatable and most characteristic classic version. This version is much more discrete, some will say tasteful. And I certainly get the appeal of that...
“Bat girl “!?! Hmm...is this a tribute to the “Me Too” movement? A bit silly in my opinion. I suppose that women pilots already has been wearing Rolex GMT’s for years anyway😆
The Rolex GMT is still my ultimate grail watch and I’ll probably never get one.
    Keep up the good work👍

I have always had aspirations of owning a Rolex. As someone growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s a Rolex was synonymous with being successful in my younger mind. But the closer I have gotten to being able to attain it I just can't seem to sell myself on it with the way the prices have gone. I find myself looking more at omega and Grand Seiko. The blue and black gmt does still capture my attention however.

Perhaps a little blingy for my personal taste tbh (I prefer oyster bracelet, ideally without the PCLs as well - though I know not an option on the GMT) I’m with you on preferring the blue/black ‘Batgirl’ to the red/blue ‘Pepsi’. Heck, I might even pop down to my local Rolex dealer tomorrow and pick one up immediately at retail… ah, wait, now there lies a problem…!!! ;-) All the best TGV.
